Thank you man. I've played other fighting games before, but this is my first street fighter game and I nearly gave up on it because I didn't understand the mechanics.
1:09 Hunh, so Street Fighter V has Smash Bros esque animation smoothing, eh? See how Ryu visibly pulls his leg back frame by frame despite the fact that it's a cancel so he's really doing a transition into the hadoken animation? Not sure if i like this.
+MetalMusicMan I think what he's saying is that the kick's animation wasn't cancelled. The game looked at when the hadoken was input and brought Ryu's leg back gradually based on how many frames there were between the two attacks. The animation of Ryu's foot returning to a normal stance is faster or slower depending on when it was cancelled. If you look at the same chain in SF4, Ryu's foot (and indeed his entire body) all essentially "teleport". Melee specifically uses this for many animations that have variable amounts of lag or startup. The simplest example is that throw animations are faster when throwing lighter characters, so instead of coding different throw animations for each weight, the game will skip certain frames in order to keep the animation smooth when it's sped up.
Hey Joker, I had the same doubt, but I did it yesterday haha. Just press two buttoms when you do a special move, example: Cammy must do ⬇️↘️➡️ and pres Medium and Stong Kick at the same time to unleash a EX move. I Guess the other characters are similar. Good luck and have a nice day !!!
I'm very frustrated right now by always doing them accidentally. any time i try to throw a hadoken at the end of a combo, I do a CA. I'm hoping that once my mad catz fightstick gets here it will help. this game is very difficult to learn, but that just makes it more satisfying when you finally figure it out. good luck.
First of all go into the in game command list and find your character's critical art. Ryu's for example is doing a quarter circle twice and pressing a punch button. Now you're only problem should be doing it fast enough which shouldn't be a prob if you practice a bit
+Ash B It's actually a cancel most of the time. You can cancel Special Attacks into Critical Arts just like you can cancel Normal Attacks into Special Attacks. You can also use similar input overlays to make things easier on yourself, for example: as Ryu, if you want to combo Crouch HP into Hadouken into Critical Art, you don't have to press "d+HP > d, df, f, HP > d, df, f, d, df, f, HP" -- that would work, but you don't need to do that. You can instead just do "d+HP > d, df, f, HP > d, df, f, HP" (removing the second quarter-circle). This works because the game will count the previous Hadouken's quarter circle input as ALSO counting for the first quarter circle input of the Critical Art. This makes canceling the Special (Hadouken) into the Critical Art much easier.
MetalMusicMan Yes i just seen another post about this in a forum. I never knew this game worked like that but that makes it easier for me now! Thanks for the help man.
This video has just about sold me on SFV! But then your recent video on the netcode issues gave me pause....oh well. No harm in waiting for some updates and maybe a steam sale.
+Will Richter it's been better recently, so you're probably good to go. lag issues are annoying though and at the time of that video they were pretty bad for a bit, for whatever reason.
Hmm, that sounds promising, but there are other interfering factors. I have particularly bad internet, an outdated PC, and sometimes the Down direction on my DualShock's D pad just doesn't register. Again, if it goes on sale, I might just snap it up for posterity, but I'm slow rolling this game for sure.
+Stryder Hirio that's an "EX" Special Attack. It's performed just like a regular Special Attack, except you press two attack buttons when you use it instead of one (i.e., press Medium Punch AND Hard Punch at the same time after doing a fireball motion to use an EX Fireball). This is shown at 4:08 in the video and requires 1 bar of your critical meter to perform.
So, let's say I'm using Menat and I want to ex her sphere. I would do the sphere toss but hit both punche buttons to get the ex effect? (Just got the game today and never really played SF before)
How do you do the critical art though on ps4 you know the command list the critical slot it show a arrow I don't know how to do it shows a red circle then a arrow coming out and going up what does that mean for the stick
Not sure what you mean? The directions of the arrows are the directions you push, simple as that. So for Ryu, his Critical Art is a double quarter-circle motion (Down, Down-Forward, Forward, Down, Down-Forward, Forward, and any Punch Button).
I'm not really sure, I was hoping you'd be able to tell me, haha. I'm just getting into intermediate concepts so I can't really suggest anything helpful. I'm looking at a SF glossary and it seems like you've already covered a lot. There's terms like vortex and 50/50s that might allude a beginner. I'm not an expert so I guess other things that might round out a person's SF education ?
+James Vander Beek I think the more advanced stuff is covered in a lot of other videos already -- mostly because there's less of a need to break the content down. once you're familiar with the basics here, it's easier to watch other videos from advanced players and understand the concepts, which is more or less my goal/purpose with these videos. i think Frame Data and Meaties and such would be good topics for an Advanced video, but Lord Of Ultima already has that on lockdown, so no need for me to do it :) Check out his 5-Minute Fundementals Series on Frame Data here: ruclips.net/video/8gtklnzge00/видео.html
I feel like Advanced Tutorials are kind of superfluous. If you're at the point where you want Advanced stuff, you're probably already doing your own research and whatnot anyway. Much more important to get the people who are struggling to figure out the basics in so they can start their own path towards advanced play.
The input varies from character to character, usually it's a double quarter-circle forward + an attack. You can look up each character's Critical Arts in the in-game Command List.
+MetalMusicMan 100%. I dont know shit about SF but wanna get good, and your guide is amazing for folks like me. fighting games can be really intimidating, so thank you very much for all your work
MetalMusicMan You could go over basic up to advanced yomi, the fundamentals of competitive footsies, tips for execution, advice for how to learn a character and what to look for, advanced uses for training mode, the ideologies of matchups and what makes them, baiting whiffs, the uses of different fireballs, setting up counter hits, talking about frame data, or some more.
Anyone else feel like they made some commands way to complicated? Like how am I supposed to do two full circle rotations without character jumping for a critical art?
For Zangief, that's sort of supposed to be a negative for him to deal with. You can "hide" the motion in another attack, or a dash, to prevent yourself from jumping.
Me too but the game is dead. Life has been weird. Looking for a new game, focusing on HOTS in the interim. Dunno when I'll be back fully, sorry. But thanks for the support.
+Rem Ringnalda you can look up how to perform every move that you character can do, including critical arts, by pausing the game and selecting "Command List".
+MetalMusicMan m.bison. He is my favourite character but I also can't pull it off on other characters. Btw it says that I have turn my joystick (i'm on ps4) two times in 90 degrease and finih the last joystick with a punch (I think it says that but please correct me if i'm wrong) but when i see other people doing the CA they just do it instantly without moving what it seems like.
The exact motion for M. Bison's CA is "down, down-forward, forward, down, down-forward, forward, [any punch]".You can do it really quickly, but you have to do it correctly for it to come out, so it's better to practice doing it correctly but SLOWLY before you try to speed it up. You might even want to try doing the motion so slow that you know it won't work, just to make sure you get the motion down properly.
My god, thank you!
I've been so lost when it comes to learning this game. Can't believe it doesn't have an in-game proper guidebook like this.
+Carl Wåhlander happy to help! I'd love to have this linked by Capcom some day :)
MetalMusicMan man ilove your tutorial video there is no tutorial better than you also iwant ask one question may i use controller or keyboard because arcade stick is not availble in my country by the way sorry for my bad english

Many thanks!
Best intro to this game you will find on the internet
All these pro strats n shit and I’m here tryna find out how to finish my challenges in trials
Thank you man. I've played other fighting games before, but this is my first street fighter game and I nearly gave up on it because I didn't understand the mechanics.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to make and upload this video. Much appreciated!
hey thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :D
To do any EX moves just look at your command list and see which moves are EX and use the same command with all three punches or kicks.
V-reversals can help you escape being knocked out by blocked critical arts.
+MystyrNile that's a good footnote, i'll add it to the description, thanks!
Fantastic stuff!
+Spiraea2 thank you!
+MetalMusicMan what button commands do you to do a critical art for say ryu
+Gabe Harm you can look up how to do every move by pausing and selecting "command list"
D
I learned a lot about v skill and crush counters
Super! Thx. Very good guide. I love it
That was an amazing pair of videos!
1:09 Hunh, so Street Fighter V has Smash Bros esque animation smoothing, eh? See how Ryu visibly pulls his leg back frame by frame despite the fact that it's a cancel so he's really doing a transition into the hadoken animation?
Not sure if i like this.
+MystyrNile pretty sure that's just part of the hadouken animation. you can see it in part 1 he does it before every hadouken.
+MetalMusicMan
I think what he's saying is that the kick's animation wasn't cancelled. The game looked at when the hadoken was input and brought Ryu's leg back gradually based on how many frames there were between the two attacks. Great video i learned valuable information. This just what i needed. Thanks!
Aww man, where is the Expert part? That's what I need to learn to git gud😭
THX!🙂👍
this is very good info. i been playing street fighter since i was a youngster on snes
Still can't do the ex move i really don't get it can anyone tell me how
U mean their ultimate attack?
Hey Joker, I had the same doubt, but I did it yesterday haha. Just press two buttoms when you do a special move, example: Cammy must do ⬇️↘️➡️ and pres Medium and Stong Kick at the same time to unleash a EX move. I Guess the other characters are similar. Good luck and have a nice day !!!
This video is so helpful.
Yo 1,000 views in a day. Gz, Will
I didn't know there was a "fall recovery" similar to Smash Bros in this series. Neat.
This an awesome guide... better than heaps of other shit on the internet... thank you!!!
+Paul Piggy awesome! I'm happy to help :D
This completely irrelevant to the video but I’ve always wondered this. Why is that guy just hanging off the roof by his feet upside down?
how do we hit all 3 punch buttons at once on a normal controller? that seems like a huge ask
There are macro buttons bound to all three on most controllers
This is so good do u have anymore?
Negative, but maybe when SF6 comes out 😁
How Do I Do The CA? Whats The Commands?
You can find it in the Command List, it differs for each character.
great video bro. keep up the great work bro.
how are EX moves performed? (i already know but it just wasn't covered in the video.)
+eli rivers heya, I say that at 4:19 in the video
MetalMusicMan you did? my bad! i need to play better attention...
So V-skills are like fadcs from sf4, in which you can cancel and do some special attacks
Bruh, I came to this video when it was at 69,699 views 😑
And I came 101k making it easy
Has anyone made videos this good about SF3: 3rd Strike?
I am not a 3rd Strike player but Renic's videos are the go-to, I think. They are not very planned out or succinct though, unfortunately.
Thx for the tip on links. That actually helped a bunch
Awesome, glad it helped!
Nice, very helpful
Why does kages jump h crouch heavy push back only sometime? I can’t hit the crouching heavy it just whiffs.
This was so useful thanks :)
nice tutorials bro
(Throws Gauntlet) I'm afraid there can only be one MusicMan in these parts
GASP
Great tutorial MMM
Nicely done again!
I can't do critical arts for the life of me unless by accident pleaseeee help:/
I'm very frustrated right now by always doing them accidentally. any time i try to throw a hadoken at the end of a combo, I do a CA. I'm hoping that once my mad catz fightstick gets here it will help. this game is very difficult to learn, but that just makes it more satisfying when you finally figure it out. good luck.
First of all go into the in game command list and find your character's critical art. Ryu's for example is doing a quarter circle twice and pressing a punch button. Now you're only problem should be doing it fast enough which shouldn't be a prob if you practice a bit
Hey guys, thanks for tips. The day after posting this I practiced like crazy and finally got it down!
+Joe Black lol I was the same way when it came to doing charge attacks I was literally watching somebody doing it on screen just to get it down
did the fightstick help?
Can someone help me with linking a special into CA, ive only ever done it once and it was a fluke. Kind of new to SF.

MetalMusicMan ahh oké . Thank you very much man :)
Thanks man.
Amazing guide really helped
Fantastic
they just need to remove the links combos and add more target combo imo.
why, links in SFV are piss-easy
I am probably gonna get the game during this sale, thanks for the great videos!
Nice beginning tutorial. Appreciate it.
Do you reckon you'll make more sfv guides in the future?
+Vincenti dela Fuente probably will make some character guides at some point, yeah. no real plan or schedule for it right now though.
Really good bro
+Umar Ahmed thanks!
So, let's say I'm using Menat and I want to ex her sphere. I would do the sphere toss but hit both punche buttons to get the ex effect? (Just got the game today and never really played SF before)

Will there be an advanced guide in the future ?
+James Vander Beek hadn't planned on it -- what topics would you want in an advanced guide?
I'm not really sure, I was hoping you'd be able to tell me, haha.

can't thank you enough
How do you activate your critical art
You can find it in the Command List, it differs for each character.
Are there characters that u reckon for beginners
Necalli is still a good starting point for most people imo.
@@MetalMusicMan thank you!
who would dislike this?
+Ironthe swordknight a single really angry dude, apparently! :)
Really interesting. Might finally jump in on PS5.
Thx i learned a lot
So is the trend here that MMM doesn't like Advanced tutorials?
I feel like Advanced Tutorials are kind of superfluous. If you're at the point where you want Advanced stuff, you're probably already doing your own research and whatnot anyway. Much more important to get the people who are struggling to figure out the basics in so they can start their own path towards advanced play.

I hate how even the Champion Edition doesn’t tell you you can use ex specials. I’ve gone almost 80 hours without knowing >:(
he dont say how to use all three bars.....
It's a super/critical art, it's listed in every characters moves list in-game.
What an amazing guide! Thank you!
More likes please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hell no,

Me too but the game is dead. Life has been weird. Looking for a new game, focusing on HOTS in the interim. Dunno when I'll be back fully, sorry. But thanks for the support.
How do i use all of my 3 critical art bars. You didn't even facking explain it. Nobody explains how to do it. Please help
+Rem Ringnalda you can look up how to perform every move that you character can do, including critical arts, by pausing the game and selecting "Command List".
+MetalMusicMan i see the movements you have to do but when i do them correctly like it says it never works
Rem Ringnalda you must be doing something wrong then, mate :) what character are you using / trying to do a CA with?
+MetalMusicMan m.bison. He is my favourite character but I also can't pull it off on other characters. Btw it says that I have turn my joystick (i'm on ps4) two times in 90 degrease and finih the last joystick with a punch (I think it says that but please correct me if i'm wrong) but when i see other people doing the CA they just do it instantly without moving what it seems like.

Who want fight me in this game 🤔
Me I suck though
COM0LICATED
It's not REyu. It's pronounced RYEu.
welp, this game is pretty slow and shallow. Back to melee i guess
