That's a common issue when the motor takes a direct sudden hit on the back of the head. The head wants to go one direction, but the engine block is bolted down in the opposite direction. Only thing left to happen is for the force to split the two at the center point where the strongest part meets the weakest part, and that's usually level with where the engine bolts down to the chassis. This really had nothing to do with the design of the savage. This happens on all nitro engine that take hard lateral hits on the engine head.
@@TastyBRC and what about the newest LRP .32 4.1 ? Did they improve something? Lately I've been wanting to ride my Savage X again. Unfortunately, the HPI engine has died many years ago, so I'm looking for another nitro engine. Which engine (manufacturer) would you recommend? Just for hobby :) I have improved many things: new diff, metal flywheel, new clutch, 3-speed gearbox, aluminium ribbed engine bed and many things. So I'm looking for something that lasts a long time and has a higher performance than stock HPI 4,6ccm. Thanks in advance :)
Wow that seemed like a small hit but that was massive damage. Get yourself some innovative RC chassis and engine plate. They are 4mm thick. They are a bit heavy and not cheap, but I think it's well worth it!
IRc parts are tough, they are worth the price, i might buy a chassis. How long do you think it will take to burn 9 gallons of fuel and sell me your lrp crankcase? 🤔 2 weeks should be enough 😁
@@TastyBRC lol I haven't run mine in a while. I got a nova carb for it but I sanded it down some but it was not quite enough. Not touched it since. I have been trying to drive the TVR rather than rc cars in my spare time before the winter comes. I will look for the crankcase part for you though! If I see it I can buy it for you and send it over.
The stock Savage TVP chassis aren't that hard to bend, in fact, it's very common. That hit didn't look too bad but the truck is on the heavy side and the mass of it at the particular spot the chassis hit the divider was the perfect storm unfortunately. One of my Savages has the FLM TVP chassis plates and I think a similar hit will also cause the chassis to bend as the FLM chassis TVP aren't super heavy duty, I think the innovativeRC chassis is the best one right now. I have several of those LRP .32 engines, some stock, some modded and the overall quality of those Chinese engines is decent at best. Mine had burrs on the sleeves just like countless others. Unfortunately, our options for big block engines are very limited especially since Novarossi is no more and O.S only cares about making .21 racing engines that are $400+.
I agree, the chassis of the savage is easy to bend, I was looking at the irc, they still have a +6mm in stock. As you say, the choices are limited, Nova, OS but also Picco no longer manufacture .28. The quality of LRPs is not good but at least they still sell for +28 and .32!
The engine didn't snap because the TVP chassis bent. It snapped because the engine took a direct lateral hit to the back of the engine head. This sudden hit forces the engine to move forward when transferring the force. The engine mount tries to resist this forced movement, which creates two movement forces and leads to the crack. The crank bell housing is thin aluminum mixed with thick portion of engine mounts. This creates a weak point and a strong point. When the engine takes a hit from the back and is pushed forward, the weakest link is this area between the engine mount tabs and bell crank. Everything below the mounting tabs are super secure. Everything above them are easy to snap. This is always where the engine cracks with a hit like this or if you land on the back of the head. This is an issue with most nitro engines. The fact that the chassis bent is a good thing for the engine or it would have been damaged even worse. The engine would have been better off if the chassis were made out of noodles.
@@TastyBRC it's not just a pullstart issue. The block at the back hits the chassis. Might just try to install it in my kyosho neo st should fit I would assume
DavidRC installed a KE25 carb in a losi lst XXL wich i belive is running an sh based engine, i'm pretty sure it will fit. The .32 carb has a heat insulator and restrictors, should be better but we all know that lrp carbs are not great, the kyosho carb should be a good upgrade
@@TastyBRC thats why I dont like the 2 piece engine mount on the savage, someone should make a 1 piece aluminum block that joins the two tvp plates and have the engine bolt to that, that would place the stress on the block of aluminum instead of the engine’s crankcase.
If the 32 block is the same I got one you can have nothing wrong with it I was on fourth tank had a runaway and flipped upside down full throttle and blew the crank block is fine
Wow, that’s a big bummer.. I’m puzzled how that crash on the curb caused so much damage? Did the bent chassis cause the throttle servo to fully extend causing the full throttle?

Ouch, looks like the heatsink fins got caught on the divider causing that damage. Im still learning about nitros, what is it about the OS carbs that get them rated so highly? What OS carb would fit an F4.6?
A good carb is a carb that makes your engine easy to tune and holds the tune, cheap aluminum carbs like the lrp's or sh wont hold the tune, they'll make your engine finicky and allows a "smaller tuning window". OS and Nova carbs are just perfect, even a cheap, low quality engine like a Lrp will run great with one of those carbs.
