Just wanted to say that I watched this stage live with my mom today for her 75th birthday, as she and I have been watching the grand tours together since '89. Of course some Butterfly Effect made it into our mid-stage discussion and analysis :)
Tell your Happy 75th Birthday from me. 🎁🎈 👊🦋
Awesome. Memories. Cheers from Canada.
What an amazing post. Hope you enjoy watching!
Mom turns 75 in two months :-). She will probably be in vegas not watching bike racing with me.
Happy Birthday! Over the years, who's her favorite rider, race and team?
In the post-race interview, Pogi mentioned all his teammates as they pulled off their respective efforts. Mentioned how their faces where doing these pulls. He naturally feels an obligation towards them for pulling so hard! That’s his motivation! Winning is repayment!
Rafal Majka was pulling so hard, that Pogi had to ask him to slow down! That was funny! No wonder he was suffering after yesterday’s ITT win.
Every GC contender was suffering including Tadej. Yet he managed to pull off this victory! This one is truly special!🏆
Thanks for the amazing race analysis, Chris! 👊🙏
👊🦋🙏
I like how he always mentions his teammates after the race and his teammates always give everything for him because they believe he can win
As I'm sitting on the chesterfield watching the last 15k of the stage my wife is in the kitchen trying to ask me something. When she gets no answer she comes into the room and says what's the matter, why aren't you answering me? Sitting there slack jawed I just point to the tv screen. She looks sees the race shakes her head and walks out of the room. This kid is unbelievable. So much fun to watch. Then I get to see you recap the day and get to enjoy it all over again. Watching you I have to agree that knuckleheadism was running rampant today. Can't wait for tomorrow.
🤣🤣 Theres so much, women don't
Understand👍 Men don't understand
Gravings for Extremely expensive
Handbags😜
Wives come, wives go. There will be always be more wives. There is only one Tadej Pogacar.
Tell your wife I said hi and that there is only one more week left if the giro. And make sure you do the dishes to help out. 😂🦋👊👋
Amazing post. Similar situation with me 😂
In our house, we both watch the race and the dishes are done by the kids 🙂
Thanks Chris thanks Garrett for all your time and work on the show
Thanks John 👊🦋
Majka also deserves credits, he is doing brilliant work for Pog.
Love the mention of Jensie!!! Y’all are my two favorite cyclist of all time! Both class acts on & off the bike.
This is a new level of modern Pro Racing. I love how crazy it is.
Me too 😂👊🦋
"Jensi" won the stage up into Beaver Creek 12(?) years ago, on a breakaway, and I was a volunteer Marshall posted on the inside of the only hairpin turn just above (100m) the entry/guard shack (three car lanes wide). He was having a blast going into that turn.
🎉🎉🎉
We have to start calling you Eagle Eyes for your Birds Eye race analysis! You see tactical choices that show the dynamics in ways that help enlighten us mere mortals. Thanks!
🦅👀👁️👊🦋🙏
Cofidis rotating pulls in the breakaway.... while going full gas in the chase group. OMG 🤣🤣🤣
It was a knucklehead pull
Craziness out there for Cofidis. Geschke was riding on the front so much. And wood riding ahead. Crazy 🤪🦋😱
I feel there needs to be a category beyond knucklehead just to describe what Cofidis was doing yesterday.
I am intrigued by the way they are using Rafal Majka… having him surge, ride tempo, surge, ride tempo and then launch Pogacar. Also, you got a great shout out by Patrick on LRCP.
Can you give me a timestamp in the podcast where he shouts him out? Thanks!
👊🦋👊
Rafal can do that effort so long as he is not the front to long. Otherwise the snap in the legs starts to disappear quickly. 💪🦋👊
@@ryderd2346 4:10 on today’s stage 15 RUclips video.
In the post race interview Pog said he told Rafa to slow it up because he was hurting and then got him to launch him on a tailwind section
You should present the daily #1 Knuckleheads award 😅
My favorite part of the day during grand tours is when I get to listen to you tell us how things really happened. Thanks for the great commentary.
That’s was a fun stage to watch and talk about. Thanks 👊🦋🙏
The guys on the Lanterne Rouge Cycling Podcast mentioned your RUclips channel yesterday. I guess they are also fans of your great work 👍
I don't know if its just lip service but Tadej recognizing and praising his team esp this stage's efforts, seems like they really performed and worked well together. So far, this is a good team that really worked well for him despite being labeled team B or not top tier team to go w/ Tadej before the start of the tour from the other podcast/channels. But seeing/hearing this team really giving their best, protecting Tadej until the last push where he could attack to reach the finish, I really hope his team in the upcoming TdF be on the same or better team work like this so far in tour. Last week of d Giro to go, looking forward for more but safe ride for all.
I think they're finally coming around, they learned the hard way that there's no way of becoming one of the best and win everything all by his own, especially after the 2022 tdf. It's a team sport above anything else.
I rode the giro e yesterday and had a chance to see these champions finish live....that last gravel part had some crazy ramps and was hard with an Ebike. These champions have must see in person power...amazing
The ease pog went up the road was insane.
“I CANT DO IT!”
😂🦋👊
Thanks, Chris, and I hope Tadej cools it from here by riding with the cool bunch. 😀
I would be surprised if we see a big ride like today again but if it’s just a K or 3 solo. He maybe winning again. 😱🦋👊
Thanks Chris. Let's enjoy the rest day. Take care. ❤❤
Thank you 😊
Clearly he is the odds-on favorite to win the Tour now. A Giro-Tour double is such a mind-boggling achievement.
He really is towering over all the other riders of his era. I really don't see a Jonas comeback in time to be competitive, Remco is not close to Pog's level, and Bora doesn't have team enough to launch Primoz. UAE is firing on all cylinders, Tour looks to be a repeat of the Giro.
After last year’s disappointments they planned and trained well
Primoz and Jonas if he’s a 100% are all on or very close to Pogi’s level. Remco has his moments also but not as often. 👊🦋
@@ChrisHornerCycling2023 Giro Primoz was struggling with beating Geraint, only did it in the final time trial.
Fantastic stage, fantastic breakdown. Watched it live, but all the more enjoyable after this !
👊🦋🙏
Awesome play by play! Well done!
Great commentary, thanks. Seems like UAE riders work 100 percent for Pogacar in the Tour, 70 percent for Pogacar in other races he does, and all for themselves (sometimes even against each other) when he isn't riding. Maybe that's how they're able to sign and keep a roster full of stars. That and UAE's bottomless pockets.
Call me jane! Hahahahahahhahahah. "He doesn't like the name calmejane but I'm going to call him call me jane" Chris is very funny
😂🦋👊
This giro is in the bag already. If i were the coach i would advise to go easy for the last 7 days to save the body for the next tour.
🥱🥱🥱
i am not sure Pog understands the concept of going easy
His ego won't let him
@@glennanderson2790 🤣🤣🤣
Best rant EVER, Chris...TY.
I wonder if ENVE filled Pogis pink labeled wheels with pink sealant. So next time he blows a tubeless tire off that hookless rim it will spew pink all over the peloton, like an alpha dog marking territory.
😂😂😂😂that’s a good one 😂😂
😂🦋👊
You are a marketing genius!
I reckon Colnago made a couple of those pink accented bikes weeks ago..
The bike certainly looked good. 🚲🦋👊
Fwiw, they are just vinyl stickers applied on a regular Pogi bike. Very well done.
I made the mistake of playing the knucklehead drinking game. This is my last coherent thought of the night.
It was a record today out there. 😂👊🦋🍻
Chris I want your opinion on this but all I'm gonna say is if Vingegaard raced Pogacar on this stage he would have been dropped eventually like even with no crash i still would have him winning this stage. Pogacar is on a way better level than before and obviously not much competition but I know everyone is gonna say oh well if Vingegaard was racing he would have beaten him but the way Pogacar rode today's stage and to attack and catch Nairo was just crazy and I don't think Jonas could do that from that far out. But still Pogacar with no injuries and he didn't seem to get tired till the climb at the top at the end.👊🦋🦋
Hard to say really. But Pogi and his team would have the facts there on Pogi’s power meter right after the stage finished. But you gave me great idea for tomorrow’s video. Thanks 👊🦋
If Jonas was there he would have at least finished with Pogacar for sure. 👍👍
@tonyvanderstraaten1040 oh I agree I'm just saying he would have dropped like right at the end basically and Pogacar would have just kept on attacking😂
It would have been different stage if Jonas was there, for sure.
But Poggi has definitely improved again this year.
We are now one day later and do have the numbers from Pogacar..... It was his third best ever ride in terms of watts, and he does get close to what Vingegaard did, but is still not at that level...
Dumb question - but how much does a super hard day today (if Pogacar had to solo 81 km) affect his legs or performance in the TDF 6 weeks from now?
That’s not a dumb question at all because right now no one really no knows the answer to that question. If they did there would be more Giro/TdF double winners. 🤔🦋👊
How lucky can we be. Chris analysis is second to none. And He actually mentioned Jens today. Two of my favorites knuckleheads!!!
Epic stage.
True essence of cycling
Lanterne Rouge gave you a positive callout on their podcast today.
👊🦋🏮
They better do - these two guys on Lanterne Rouge have blurted out so much rubbish that I unsubscribed from their channel. They should take a few Chris Horner 101 lessons. Knuckleheads 😁
Nice commentary. Always interested to see who wins your knucklehead labels for the stage. Pogacar looks to be in a class of his own in this field. It was nice to see Nairo Quintana in the front again at least for awhile.
knuckle head extravaganza here on todays stage! a whole bunch of knuckleheadism!
Everywhere 😂🦋🔥👊
Next level knuckleheadishness! 😂
Chris in your Landis video back along time ago. You taught me a very valuable lesson. Looking at this profile I saw Motirolo with straight uphill right away. I knew Pogi was gonna hammer them based on the profile.
Thanks
Nice show/ nice stage.
👊🦋🔥🙏
When he's at his best, the Pog is clearly operates and performs at another level, daylight second. Of course he has the support of a fantastic team who's only mission is to support The Boss.
Poggy just rides bikes for fun. It just so happens that he's a top pro cyclist and once in a generation phenomenon ❤
Awesome recap Chris. It’s great to watch the race and see you make a puzzle out of it. It’s clear that things could have been quite different if the strategy was tight.
I like chris saying sponsor ad 15 seconds. The best ads are short
Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch the stage but thanks god your channel dissect every stage amazingly well
Sometime make a video of yourself sitting on the chesterfield watching a race.
Thanks for incredible commentary. Shout out to the home skillets.
I like the way you edit in the commercial without making it obtrusive
This stage was hard, it would probably took me a week to finish 😅
Finally your video is out 😀😃
Big stage with tons happening. 🔥💥🦋👊🦋🦋
Worth the wait. 🛋️🦋
Great recap again. It seems it’s every man for themselves for TV time.
Chris, your comment is simply something Extraordinary great 👍
Pogi was absolutely extraordinary on the most brutal stage of the Giro. He is the cyclist of his generation, just sensational.
Bringing up stage 8 in 21 with Jonas in the mix is a little strange for me. Jonas was still on helper duty at the start of that stage, plus he crashed. What relevance does this have to anything.
Latest: Jonas Vingegaard seen on
Mallorca! Whit a new Tattoo A BUTTER-
FLY! New subscriber Chris?
Well done Poggie,Also good for Nairo
As long as the other riders continue to be knuckleheads, and Rafal Majka is performing, then he can be relied upon by Pog to help secure the title. This hard stage15 is a textbook example.
Yep 🦋👍
Chris the break was scared of what was coming :)
Pogačar and Roglič - Slovenian FORCE!!
Pogi makes it look easy. Damn. Hopefully someone at the tour can give him a challenge. Its amazing to see his ability. But, a ttight race makes it a lot more fun.
They will. It’s going to be epic 👊🦋
Pog is looking like Lance on Sestriere. I love to see it, but that effortless seated power is…irregular.
My thoughts too
Thanks Horner team again. Pogi's ascent reminded me of Armstrong's ascent of Sestriere in 1999. Making world class riders look like club riders.
Pogi was going fast 💨 👊🦋💪
Interesting. Just like LA huh? 😅
@@cardm1900 It's worse than LA. At least he had to choose his moments. This freak just dominates every stage. Yesterday was very similar to the TdF stage to Le Grand Bornand in 2021 where he did nearly the same in a much better field. Let's completely forget that his team boss is the dirtiest cyclist/sports director in history.
@@GuntherL1 LOL! He has no real competition in this Giro. If the world's first cyclist can't win a stage that is made for him and it has no real competition. What is so strange? You idiot!
@@GuntherL1agreed. It seems like he is just sticking the middle finger out while dropping everyone. Like no one can touch him both on the road and the testing.
Great day! There was not much Nairo could have done 🇨🇴
Proud of him
He could have put Pelayo Sanchez on the front to help with the pace making so the time was a bit more. But once he solo and Pogi was coming, you are correct, not much. 🤔🦋👊
Hope he has more luck next time. Good to watch Nairoman climb.
@@ChrisHornerCycling I am not sure the team was behind him, Sanchez did not show signs of support. But you are right! it would have made a difference with the peloton.
Majka was 15 seconds earlier in the dushes than Tiberi🤣🤣
May I just make the correction his surname is Wood, not Woods.
Watching Pogi signal for the acceleration and then take off like a missile was incredible. This guy is unreal and I'd say this is top 3 Pogi moment in his carrier.
You figure when Castelli finally gave him the proper pink shorts he wanted to post up on top of that mountain. It was fun to see Nairo reel in the German dude and then Pogi reel him in. Was there an interview to ask Dani Martinez what exactly he attempted for 20 seconds there when Pogi went before giving up? At least G said Pogi is on the next level.
That was next riding. Wow 🔥🦋💪
Excellent video. Btw do you live in the United States 🇺🇸 now Chris?
Thanks for your commentary❤.Ineos and Bora in the breakaway group literally should had done something to interfere UAE.
Hello Chris form SoCal (just next to you) Why do all the favorites follow Tade, Vindego, or Rogulic? Just follow their wheel and do what ever they do and then let the time trial decide the outcome - what is the problem with this approach?
keep being savage chris...great commentary
Pascal Richard, Rolf Sorensen, Mohoric
You’re 100% correct on the Nairo call never came through my mind. He should’ve just sat up and suck on POGs wheel. 2nd was guaranteed already but he might have had a chance of winning if he attack him 50meters to go.
10 / 10 Horner you sure didn't make many friends with your name-calling but it sure was entertaining. ... almost as enjoyable as the race.
Great stuff Chris!! Well I guess G Thomas and Martinez can hope for a podium position ! But as Max or Euro sports has covered the race. We may not see the Podium presentation but will get here Adam and Dan give us their take on the race !!! ugh!
- Chris, he is just sitting on!
- No, the knuclehead is rotating!!
Hahahahahahhahahah
I yelled at cofidis to stop being knuckleheads 😂😂😂😂😂they were rotating pulls when they couldn’t gain nothing the breakaway were gaining and cofidis were cracking 😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂🦋👊
Cofidis is now the solid leader in the knucklehead teams classification.
Man… this reminds me of the early 2000s. Everyone thought they were witnessing greatness. 7 years later everything changed.🤔
Nice! First today!
Podium 👊🦋👊🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Do you really think if Nairo waited for Tadej it would have been any better for him? It feels like, Tadej, having the Giro already wrapped up, was more motivated to close the gap and win the stage. If Nairo waited to get on the wheel, well, who's going to win in the drag race up the final pitches? I'm just a big knucklehead on my own Chesterfield, but it was cool to see Nairo going solo for the win because, I'm sure, he knew it was his only shot against the Slovenian menace steamrolling from behind!
I reckon you're right. Pog was gaining on him one second per second for some of that. He Was flying up that hill!
The question has to be asked, how can one person be so much better than the rest?
When Grosschartner pulled, he let the gap go up from 3:05 to 3:40 😂😂😂
Good analysis as always Chris. I wasn’t sure how Pogacar would be a day after a TT based on the past TDFs, but boy oh boy was he on form or what?
Given what Pogacar showed, I doubt Quintana would have beat him even if he sat up on that penultimate climb. He still got Second on this stage though, which after his past couple of years is not bad at all.
It’s not secret that most of the teams here are B or C teams since everyone is saving their best for the Tour de France. Does this include the team DS’s as well? It’s the only way I can explain all these knuckleheaded tactics from just about every team save for UAE, and Lidl Trek on the sprint stages.
21:44 third was Georg Steinhaser - not Attila Valter
Hehehe. My bad. 😂🦋👊
chris was extra savage in this episode. no mercy for these knuckleheads
I'm sitting at the Chesterfield seeing Vergard coming back for the second round in front I'm saying to myself this is something he thought of while asleep and dreaming on how he is going to light everyone up.
But my question though why didn't both INEOS and BORA-Hansgrohe not attack UAE in any of those climbs so that UAE could use its riders before the second last climb?
Great review as usual. Adam Blyth is entitled to his opinion just as you are
Seeing that Pog beat Quintana by 29 seconds, I would say Cofidis did a "great" job pulling UAE and Pog. Cofidis deserved THE KNUCKHEAD award on this day more than anybody else.
But, I will say Quintana still rode an impressive race. Had Quintana win, it would have been a huge win for him at this stage in his career, just as big as Pog winning this Queen stage. Amzing ride both both Pog and Quintana. No shame coming 2nd to the most dominant rider of his generation (and oh please, don't even bring in Jonas into the same sentence as Pog).
Pogi's riding the Giro as a trining prep for TDF.
He might win the Vuelta too.
Yep 🤪🦋👊
Into the deep
Today’s stage was on fire. 🔥👊🦋
It's been years since a rider has put this much time into his rivals on one climb. I felt like I was watching Lance Armstrong.
No. Pogacar did the same in the TdF of 2021 in the stage to Le Grand Bornand where he took minutes on an elite field. "A special performance". ruclips.net/video/G5T2Vw3_-8U/видео.html
Pogo did not look that tired at the finish considering two big efforts in days . Certainly not being discussed on eurosport about similarities to Lance Armstrong😂 . The giganticos this year especially are just winning at will from any distance they like . I get impression there's one rule for the peleton and another rule for the giganticos
Is it possible to Pogacar try the 3 grand tours and become the only one to acheive this???
Only if he skips Olympics and Vingegaard Remco and Roglic all skip Vuelta so basically 0 chance
Anything is possible with good hemoglobin 🤭
Yes.🤔🦋👍
It is likely that no human will ever achieve this, but since Pogi isn’t really human, he probably could do it.
👍
Matt 👍 🦋👊🏆🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
his "problem" is that if Vinegar should miss the TdF, or be there in poor form, it will spoil the achievment.
As currently, he is the only rider that can challenge him in a tour
I’m no pro, but I just don’t know. How do you beat Ganna AND then Mr Quintana..and do it smooth like Carlos Santana?
I was hoping the EF guy was going to pull it out. 3rd wasn't too shabby!
But Chris even though Cofidis rode the front they were not gaining time on breakaway, i watched this stage from km 0 to finish and time was just going up. It only came down when uae took the front
Even Thomas got tired of they tactics and stopped pulling coz he knew they were fighting for knucklehead podium 😂😂
Hi Dan. Let’s say Wood’s drops back to the chase and helps out. Or how I would have played it, Wood’s sits on the break and gets as much rest as he can. The break is caught in the long valley and now he rides the front full gas until the Mortirolo. “Perhaps” ( I can’t say for sure here of course), with some help from other teams the gap is bigger and UAE see the time at 7min and don’t bother to try and win the stage. Maybe it works but it’s better than seeing a 5min gap. 🤔🦋👊
Or B/V ride the front because Storer is in the break now with time growing to Tiberi and they help Pogi solo to the win. We will never know with this many knuckleheads out there today. 😂🦋👊
U the best to explain the race christ
Boom!!!😮

Team Bahrain Victorious....an equal opportunity grand tour assist to win team.
What was Polti Cometa doing?
Great analysis as usual but I have a little question and it's regarding Ineos. I kinda knew G wouldn't be able to put in too big an today after I think emptying himself to limit his losses in the TT yesterday, but shouldn't Arensman have been pacing G, his team leader up the final climbs? Isn't that a knucklehead move? He always seemed to be towards the back of the main GC group so I thought he was struggling but then seemed to go off chasing Rubio (and from what I thought was his main target Barret) in what I saw as him projecting his own race position, when I was thinking he should have been pacing his team leader and bringing him back up to those attacking. Pog is in a different world, stunning ride, but I kinda expected this because none of the other top riders are here, the fact G is in second shows this. His form though is making me really want to see how he does in the Tour. I hope he doesn't push too hard in the final week to be fresh for the big showdown in a month or so. What are your thoughts? He has ad to be favourite having seen this?
