Another great video. I watched your other video where you did a wrap repair and decided to make some additional shelves in my caravan using the same material. I wanted it to look like it came like that from the factory, rather than someones home DIY job. Thanks for the tip. Your videos are very informative and enjoyable.
This happened to our kitchen cupboards (same colour wood effect). I took all the laminate off draws and doors except the frames and painted with the correct paint and quality brushes in cream and now looks fantastic even two years later.
Interesting and really useful content Mark. Oh wow isn't it odd what's happened to the cupboard door !? I'm looking forward to watching you wrap it with a contrasting colour 👌
Happy New Year Mark... great video as ever.... not exactly a 'disaster' though... just basic repairs on that door lol.... hope we all have a great year 'The Camp Caravanners'
@@thecaravanplace Thanks as it's still summer here in New Zealand (been a bit wet) so a lot more time for caravanning. Only had the caravan for six months so you video's have been a big help.
We had a Bailey Pegasus Ancona S2 from new in 2011 and used it 10-11 months ago year. When it was parked up we made sure it was completely empty of everything including carpets, cushions and mattresses. We did use moisture traps when stored, but we found that cleaning and drying the surfaces with micro fibre cloths much more effective. We treated all rubbers with Gummifleg every year and had the battery on trickle charge. Clean as you go, little and often when using the van and keep a can of Mr Sheen handy for the awing rail. We sold our van during lock down and are now seeking a 5- 6 berth lightweight outfit for towing with an electric car, the lower the MTPLM the better!
We will hopefully do a video on light weight options soon. Xplore are ok, some of the sprite range, Bailey still do some light ones also Discovery and phoenix.
I don't care what any else says but I've always used moisture traps and find them very useful. And I'll continue using them . Great vlog, what about a two tone for the kitchen cupboards?
I beg to differ about solar panels in winter. We have had a 100 watt solar panel and a 110 amp battery and the voltage was always 13.9 when we would nip down to check it over. It’s stored on hard standing but on a working farm so we have a sonic mouse repeller running 24/7. I am no expert but anything below 11.5 and you are looking at battery damage so I would get the battery checked. I said had we now have 2 x 110 amp batteries and 200 watt of solar as we started going off grid a lot. Went to our van last week and as usual 13.9 volts. That door where the vinyl has peeled off, anything to with the fact it’s the one over the cooker? Steam damage and the cold weather had finished it off maybe?
Thanks Bob, yes very likely that it's from the heat from the hob. Great to hear about your solar panels, anything really under 12.5v is discharged, 12v is very low, so 10.8v and damage to the battery, so will need to recover with a proper charger
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🥃 ALL THE BEST FOR 2023 I love your, "no fuss, it is what it is, let's deal with it, attitude". Nothing seems to faze you. Good man, great video. 👍
I think a new wrapping is a very good idea, as you probably cannot get a matching wooden replacement, or can you? And I’d use grey matching the other grey parts in the caravan.
Heppy New Year to you. That cupboard door is n't that much of a disaster just an opportunity. Give it a new look and go for a 4D carbon fibre effect wrap.
Hi Mark, my top window nearly came off on the M25 on our way to Torquay. So gaffer taped it up. And re - fitted it when I got back. That was on a Swift conquerer 2011. I have photos if ur interested. The hardest part was getting the old adhesive off, the glass / perspex , so putting a new one in will be easy. I’ve got loads of pics, so let me know if you want me to WhatsApp’em or email etc.
I'd probably do all the cupboard doors up the front end, matching the colour of the corner think it was silver or go cream. Question for you thought, does wrapping cupboard fronts or adding sticky tiles detract from the value of the caravan?
It depends on the age of the caravan and how well its been done. If you walk in and think it came like it out the factory then it shouldn't affect the value. But it you walk in and think what the hell have they done! It probably will lol.
Personally I wouldn't buy the van with an odd colour on a couple of cupboards. It's back to the old days of changing rooms and we all remember those days don't we.
Was noticed as soon as you entered the van. I've never experienced that before but that's shocking build quality. As for the Swift's sunroof, again a build quality issue. Elddis had an endemic issue with the large heki rooflights which were cracking the outer frames and water inevitably poured in, again poor build quality. When buying caravans and coachbulit motorhomes which have a huge amount of plastic in its build, you will rarely will have have trouble free ownership. Plastic expands and retracts in the ever changing weather conditions and no matter how good the sealant is won't keep the weather at bay.
I have heard this so many times ref battery dropping below 12 volts. Seams to me there is a very small window of acceptability for battery's. What exactly happens when it drops below 12? It looked ok to me the lights were still working.
Very interesting, we had the same issue at the end of the summer on our 2019 Swift Challenger. Cracked on both sides of the double glazed unit. Van was on a seasonal pitch, so hadn’t been recently towed. The dealer immediately (unusually) admitted it would be a warranty claim. Swift confirmed it would be repaired under warranty, but also that the repair must be completed by an actual Swift technician. So we had to wait until the technician was scheduled to visit our dealer. He replaced another vans window with the same problem, and a third van which had been repaired but subsequently leaked. Lot of instances on the Swift owners Facebook page, mainly blaming excessive heat, caused by leaving the blinds closed. Maybe low temperature can have the same effect. Have a look at the coefficient of expansion for acrylic, I think you’ll be surprised. Keep up the great content. From John & Al
As the window is glued to the roof, the edges can’t expand or contract, so movement must take place in the form of flex or stretch. Here’s the science copied from a website. Acrylic expands with increasing temperature. Approx. 0.075 mm / m / K, depending on the supplier. Meaning that a 1 meter acrylic pole will become 1.5 mm longer if the temperature rises 20 degrees C. Lacking knowledge of this is the most frequent error when designing acrylic parts.
I think they use Sika rubber sealant, so in theory that should take some flex. Interesting point about the blinds. We always left the blinds open. Then we started to close them. It was the next trip out when it failed. That said, it was only due to the noise of the blind flapping, that we realised we had a problem. This was on the M25. Praise the Lord for Gaffer tape 😂 Way out of warranty, so refitted upon our return.
I’ve been considering making an external thermal cover, mounted on the awning rails. Similar to a motor home external thermal screen cover. I’ve also read the manual and it states that the blinds should not be left fully closed because of heat build up in the sun. I believe it is a design issue, which they have still not rectified.
Mark don’t be a cheap skate get a new cupboard door if you wrap it dealers like yourself will notice and customer will loose money not due to there fault. Must be able to claim it on insurance.
Always a slice of advice! And humour with spiders in the ring ......keep it coming ,when I get my next van it will be from you guys
Thanks Tony
In winter I used table salt in take away tubs never had any problem with damp or condensation as the salt picked up all the cold air
Hi Mark. Put a corkboard on that cupboard door and people can put notes, recipes and reminders on it. Cheaper than wrapping. Gail
I like this idea if it's feasible to do so it looks good 🙂
Great idea
Great video. Go grey on doors 👍

Silver/grey to match the corner facades that the radio is stowed in.

I am looking forward to viewing your solar install footage, as I'm looking at installing some panels on my Sterling Europa 460.
Hopefully Monday will be our solar panel video 👍

Love disaster videos just checked ✔️ in my van was 12 digres today all good thank god
Thanks Karl
Welcome back and a happy new year .
Looking forward for the vid about faulty battery charger as I think mine is charging intermittently
Thanks Ian
Oo. Look for a replacement in s/hand spares. If not available then wrap the kitchen cupboards in a matching white/cream to walls. Def NO other colour
Good idea Linda 👍
I agree - keep it simple and tasteful 👌
I think you really should replace the cupboard door altogether Mark. Great video and Happy New Year🥃🥃
They Don't do it now unfortunately, I did look at this after.
Bright purple Mark! That would be perfect! 😂
Great will get some ordered 👍 🤣🤣
I would do a greige, that is a greyish beige as that is the colour of the upholstery. Or do it to match the grey panel on the right of the hob
Yea that would work
Got to be Grey to wrap those cupboards, think will look fab .
Thanks Vicki

Can't believe you walked off and left all the lights on that van with the 10.8v battery!
I remembered about 10 mins after 🙈
Imagine if it was plugged in. Cost more in electricity than the the profit in the van 😂

Swap the cupboard door with one from a breakers.
We are keeping an eye out 👍
My solar panel is keeping my dual batteries at 13. 3 v during the day, today.
Super, we aren't getting much sun at the moment so your panel is working well 👍
Original all day mate that looks similar to our van I believe ours is dealer special 2010 swift freestyle 470
They don't make them unfortunately, I was going to try and get one but they are not available.
As the caravan in question with the laminate problem is a caravan up for sale surly it’s a simple case of a new replacement door ?
Normally yes. But no longer available as a new part. We are looking for a good used one as a backup, but no luck yet.
I'd probably do all the cupboard doors up the front end, matching the colour of the corner think it was silver or go cream.

If the size is the same, swap the cupboard door with the one in bedroom and wrap a pair of bedroom cupboard doors in cream.
Good idea
Personally I wouldn't buy the van with an odd colour on a couple of cupboards.

Either a new door or wrap it the original colour definitely
Thanks Matthew, I did check after and they aren't available anymore
Replace with original otherwise you’ll have too many colours and that creates a clash. Be the first thing you notice as you walk through the door.
No longer available, but it could be wrapped in a similar colour, but trying to match the original is easier said than done.
Would replace with original if possible.
