I worked with Tony Hadley in the Temple Theatre in Dublin , it was one , if not the most memorable nights of my life. Not a big crowd in an old church as a venue , but boy let me tell you the atmosphere was amazing , and at the end of the night Tony sat on the edge of the stage and signed autographs and posed for pictures , a truly decent guy.
As a musician i can say that being able to perform a song that they performed in their youth is a great achievement. Many can still do this today, however Tony sings in the original key of 'G'. As vocalists get older some loose their range, hence why you'll sometimes find people either transposing down a tone, or 'improvising' their once signature high notes to cover up their inabilty to hit them. Tony does (and always has done) a splendid job performing. He's kept his voice trained and it shows.
Yes, re transposing is what JBJ does nowadays. Although I wish he wouldn't as it's so disappointing to hear. Pat Monaghan should take over from him like Kelly Hansen in Foreigner.
One of my favourite songs from Spandau Ballet. I've been listening to this song hundred of times since I was in my teenage years in the 80's until now. Thank you Tony Hadley for this beautiful song.
I used the first 4 verses from.this song,as part of a tribute to my beloved mum who died in 2015...he sung this song at the Belfast Rocks festival back in 2019...I looked up...pointed to thee sky and said "This one's for you Mum"
one of the best - and most under-appreciated - voices of the generation. absoluely fantastic even now (well ... 4 years ago). i was always more in the Duran camp back in the day but there's no denying that Tony Hadley was by miles the better singer. Respect.
So proud for all this man has achieved ; growing as an artist, standing behind his own band formed after Spandau Ballet went their separate ways for many years. And bringing so much tenure to this song he breathed soul into even as a young man
Yep. It's none of my beeswax but after stumbling upon 'SBOTWW' doc this year, was compelled to read (and objectively appreciate) all their writings and Tony Hadley's story has resonated strongly. Though we have no idea all that has transpired between Tony and the rest of Spandau Ballet, still can appreciate his choices. Ultimately, a real shame is an understatement, as his voice will be forever etched in their sound (and imagine at odd times he may feel that way) but if his commitment to nurturing his solo career/and his own band became a conflict of interest then he made a bold and admirable choice.
@@louisehadaway6056 What are you talking about? He is the voice of Spandau Ballet, full stop. When they got back together again they knew full well it would only be for a little while and then everyone would go back to their lives, Tony going back to his solo career in between Spandau tours is how it always was supposed to be, Gary felt different, and lost his front man for good because of it.
Sir Tony Hadley have a amazing voice, one of my favorites vocalist of Spandau Ballet..im still playing all songs, but next time please sing for me Round and Round.
What a voice, yes the Kemp brothers wrote the songs, but where would the songs gone without the Hadley voice. Its why lots of lawyers have got rich over the last 20 years.
Tony singing these songs will always sound like Spandau whether he was singing to session musicians or a backing tape... it doesn't work the other way around, the other guys in Spandau can never replicate that voice, it's too distinctive and powerful, shame they can't put their differences behind them.
Wow ! 30 and 1 year later, summer of 69, no, just kidding, spring + summer of 87 - tossa de mar, catalan, spain ... our hymn on a 24 hours bus trip to spain. Still feels like it was yesterday hearing this tune except that missing sax solo piece. 24 hours busride felt like a ride through waste land when smoking on busses was far away from being illegal. Anyway: still great live performance.
Those kemp brothers would of been absolutely nowhere today,if it wasn't for Tony, spandau ballet is Tony hadley and Tony hadley is spandau ballet, don't make no-one tell you different, and if they do,then you know they lieing

Oh Wow ,
Lovely story. Thanks man.
That's why I love him, he seems wonderful, and he's hot 💋🥴💘🔥Shame he was treated so badly by Gary Kemp otherwise I rekon he'd carry on in Spandau.
@@midnightwitch606Gary soo jealous
What an absolutely fabulous singer he is! One of the best voices of all times! Got to love Tony Hadley! 👏🏻👏🏻💖💖
This song simply can not be sung by another singer. Beautiful as always!
syl schermer totally agree :)
Totally agree. I have never heard an amazing cover of this song. I sang it at Karaoke once and the audience looked so bored lol
Same with "True". I guess you can say the same for almost every song of Spandau Ballet.
As a musician i can say that being able to perform a song that they performed in their youth is a great achievement. Many can still do this today, however Tony sings in the original key of 'G'. Excellent appraisal my friend.
he says "use it or lose it"very true.
Absolutely, like Adam ant and boy george for example 😔😔😔😔 sadly I'd say they both lost there voical carry and tone.
Yes, re transposing is what JBJ does nowadays. Although I wish he wouldn't as it's so disappointing to hear. Pat Monaghan should take over from him like Kelly Hansen in Foreigner.
This is the best performance of this wonderful song. Simple instrumentation and Mr Hadley's voice for the ages.
His voice aged like wine. Red wine for precision
Try the acoustic version with Gary Kemp also on RUclips
@@mrvillan6951 It is sung by Tony Hadley but with Gary on acoustic guitar
