Makes me smile when people ask me why I went to see Orbital instead of Stevie Wonder on the Pyramid Stage...*this* is why. Absolutely bonkers, and utterly brilliant.
I love Delia Derbyshire, she was unique, highly intelligent, very sexy and made groundbreaking music. She had the patience of a saint splicing and looping tapes for each note. I also like the early White Noise albums, amazing bizarre and beautiful compositions.
Oh, but she did, and she does. In synth circles she is very much acknowledged and admired as a pioneer of electronic music. It's only the wider public who are sadly ignorant.
Over the years this has been rearranged and had bits added etc, but the core is what DD came up with, this is nothing short of amazing, I have been there and seen this trust me watching it on RUclips is good but not the same, atmosphere is mental.
Massively late replying, while the BBC have not given her the full credit, she did get a credit about the theme tune in the credits of the 50th anniversary special
Woohoo go Mr Smith and Orbital! Total banger - but Delia Derbishire did this originally total legend she is to this day we would have no electronic music without what she did x
She is a pioneer but I wouldn’t go that far as to say she built the foundation for electronic music, your forgetting about the likes of Kraftwerk, Tangerine dream, and several 60’s experimental groups she certainly contributed but she is in no way the reason we have sequence synthesized music today
One of the greatest tunes of all time, Delia Derbyshire created something absolutely magnificent. The orbital version is also astonishing and, without doubt, my favourite orbital track
So awesome! When it first started I thought it was going to be something with Jean-Michel Jarre and his laser harp. Cuz it looked exactly like that. That would have been awesome if they combined Jean Michelle Jarre's laser harp with Matt Smith and the Doctor Who theme like they did but it was so fucking great I love this so much!
Hahahaha I was there!.... however, I'd spent 3 days drinking nothing but Brothers Festival Cider and as this was playing was holed-up in my tent in some kind of dehydration induced psychosis hahaha watching the green lasers go across the sky through the ventilation netting in my tents roof - Crazy days indeed HAHAHAHA! ..... I heard it at least :D
Problem is, it's the Eleventh Doctor we're talking about. So whilst I fully believe he'd be up for it, he'd probably trip over a cable on entrance and knock over the stack of MIDI keyboards and take out a bit of the lighting rig in the process. And I say that all with full love for that clumsy bow tie man.
this was the final act I saw at my very first glastonbury and believe you me I was fucking tripping on so much acid during this that I couldnt remember whether I dreamed it or not until I watched it back the week after on BBC lol
I would totally g33k out if in 2022 Peter Davidson, David Tennett and David's son introduced this song...that way we could see (hopefully) 3 Generations of the Doctor😉😁
@@selinakyle2368 That's a joke from the series. The old Doctor meets his following doctor and answers to a question with "Who nose!" and grab the nose of his counterpart. It works, because in the series the Doctor Who knows everything!
It was probably the last time that Whovianism in British culture was actually complicated before being a fucking grifter was involved.... again. But you know we enjoyed it while it lasted.
I have always hated Dr Who. As a kid Tom Baker scared the be-jesus out of me. Was this just a Glasto thing or did Orbital do the new show's theme music?
“auntie Beeb” didn’t kill anything. You’ve just outgrown the show, was never a fan to begin with or didn’t pick up on what the writers were saying in the past till now and don’t like your beliefs being challenged.

@Chewligan1 “Dr Who” and saying Tom Baker was “the best”? it’s obvious you’re not a fan cause no one calls it that except casuals or non fans and I can think of worse incarnations: Jon Pertwee, Paul McGann, John Hurt and David Tennant.
I love Matt Smith's involuntary squeaks of laughter, like he can't quite believe this is happening. A great glastonbury moment.
Makes me smile when people ask me why I went to see Orbital instead of Stevie Wonder on the Pyramid Stage...*this* is why. Absolutely bonkers, and utterly brilliant.
yeh i was there that year, it was a hard decision for me that year for the headliners.
I wish Delia Derbyshire could see this. Her pioneering sound turned into a classic of popular culture. Too bad she didn't get the credit she deserves.

He was the king this night. Undeniably the king.
It's high time the BBC made it official.
As an exception, give Dalia the full credit she deserves.
Massively late replying, while the BBC have not given her the full credit, she did get a credit about the theme tune in the credits of the 50th anniversary special
That’s because it was Ron Grainer that wrote the music
I like that they always look like they’re having a good time too
One of my favourite tracks of all time, regardless of who does it.
Dr Who does it.
This time.
Wow for me, just another day for the genius that is Orbital. If you were there, you'll never forget.

Best performance at Glastonbury ever!

I think this is the first time we’ve ever seen The 11th Doctor in his beta costume before his tweed jacket. Look it up!

What an epic performance . I'll never forget this!

Matt Smith: Go on, I'll do a half.
🤣🤣🤣. I saw him absolutely wasted at the end of the night in Pacha, Ibiza in 2015. He gave me a massive hug though!
This is canon
11 went on a drunk sesh after loosing amy 😂
Thank you, Sylvie.
Such a great tune, but this performance is definitely made even better by the 11th Doctor himself, Matt Smith, being there! 😄😎

I like to think this is actually the Doctore on the stage. The Tardis is backstage, and he's seriously into Breakbeats.

Orbital not The Orb because they are a different electronic act in the same genre of music.
