Swiftwater Rescue Fundamentals

KSL Newsradio reporter Dave Cawley went in the water with instructors Matt Haberman and Andy Rich from the University of Utah for a lesson in swiftwater rescue techniques. With high-flowing rivers across Utah and the West, the need for caution around open water is great. Rafters and kayakers though are rushing to take advantage of the strong snowmelt. Swiftwater Rescue Fundamentals aims to arm them with skills necessary to approach moving water safely.

Wow, we floated/rafted the Provo river during flood stage way back in the early 80s in a non selfbailing raft. How we survived I will never know. Self rescue is essential when your raft flips.
