I'd say Japanese -> English is far tougher than English -> Spanish. Japanese has completely different lexical and syntactic rules than English. English and Spanish DO share some rules and basic language concepts even if English is Germanic whilst Spanish is Romance.
Not really, learning Spanish as an English speaker is actually pretty easy, while learning japanese is tougher. Spanish words can easily be pronounced while some Japanese words are harder with the romanji.

I am very impressed with her, the story goes she wanted to learn so she could talk to overseas fans so started English lessons a few months ago. Her effort is so heartwarming, for someone with your experience in the two languages this must make for a particularly interesting stream!

Because of this, I have some experience in deciphering their attempts at trying to translate word for word. They tend to get grammar and pronunciation wrong but if the general idea is there, then it's already great progress if they can keep up the conversation. It was so fun to watch, honestly. I wonder how my former students are doing now.

It's also really great to see that she isn't afraid to practice her English with others since Japanese kids tend to shy away from conversation unless they're confident they can speak the language.

I am very impressed with her, the story goes she wanted to learn so she could talk to overseas fans so started English lessons a few months ago. Her effort is so heartwarming, for someone with your experience in the two languages this must make for a particularly interesting stream!
@@Thecuregalore94 It definitely is. I taught kids ranging from 6 to 12 generally, rarely did I have students older than that. Because of this, I have some experience in deciphering their attempts at trying to translate word for word. They tend to get grammar and pronunciation wrong but if the general idea is there, then it's already great progress if they can keep up the conversation.
It was so fun to watch, honestly. I wonder how my former students are doing now.
@@Altorius That's the most important part, honestly. The willingness to continue learning and have fun with it. It's also really great to see that she isn't afraid to practice her English with others since Japanese kids tend to shy away from conversation unless they're confident they can speak the language.
@@Altorius We had a rule in my company that we only have 3 chances to correct a student per online lesson, but in reality, we really only try to correct them twice because we don't want to discourage them into thinking that they're doing bad even though they're not.
