Vocalist and guitarist Kate Pillsbury shares that this track was born while she found herself moving through a crucial healing process as she learned to listen to herself, be gentle with herself and take actions to mitigate her problems. “‘Arcturus Beaming’ is about holding grief and gratitude simultaneously as I have stumbled forward through the pain. In an era when it’s justifiably easy for many of us to gravitate toward doom and gloom, 'Arcturus Beaming' is about holding strong to a radical imagining of a better future, and doing the work to cultivate that future, which I believe requires healing ourselves on an individual level so that we can be fortified in the work required to heal our communities.”

I saw them perform in April and they said that it’s a song of hope and about the ability to change. They also said that it’s about the brightest thing in the sky other than the moon during the month of June… which is when the song came out!

it may sound corny but god. the song w/ the video brought me to tears - ive seen arcturus beaming twice live now, and was there when it released last night, but watching it with the visuals.... something struck me about the way the shadow moves through on "there's more to life than suffering" but the colored scribbles persist. knocked it out of the park once again with this one

@Lune-kh1cz Rebecca Green, who is based out of Michigan, has drawn all of The Crane Wives' album covers. I love her, she is so talented, primarily uses colored pencil and gouache paints and blends them seamlessly. She has a blog post, last I heard she was expecting her first child with her husband :)
also Emilee has done a lot more than you think! The Queen of Nothing video is a timelapse of her art, and I believe she has an instagram or some separate art social media. She's also designed some of their merch, I think. As somebody currently attending a fine arts school myself I like keeping up with what she + Rebecca Green are doing, definitely check out what Emilee's done both for the band and outside of it

this was amazing, the projected video was a really cool idea already but when the scribbles pin down on just the silhouettes of all of you, that was INCREDIBLE

i heard this song vaguely the other day and instantly knew it was the crane wives, and i vowed to find it. i had listened to a few of your songs before, but i wasn’t an avid fan (yet).
i listened to every single song from your albums, and i was so sad when i couldn’t find it. (some of my favourites were hole in the silver lining, counting sheep, here i am, the wolf, and unraveling).
but i guess the stars aligned, and youtube showed me a song i hadn’t listened to before, and its my favourite song in the world.
