    You learn this move as an Ice Hockey Player in order to keep your slapshot from rising up to high. As you get stronger by about age 14, your slapshot starts to rise dramatically - but since you want your own teammates to stand in front of the goalie & block his vision, you have to send the slapshot in low or you'll hit your own players in the head. We thus learn to move our ribcage in front of the puck with a very forward handle delivery.

      @@CogornoGolf Hockey is old-school when it comes to hitting your own players, or worse, your own goalie during practice, in the head. You will have your coaches, your parent group, and all the forwards yelling at you (or worse) if you hit them up high. As a kid, you basically get to make this mistake once - after that, you do whatever is required to send it in low - it's why my peak iron height is 70 feet

    as a single figure handicapper, I was intrigued into the ribcage motion.. been battling over the top for years.. when you break it down you can feel the ribcage sway but one tip at 13min in one sentence allowed me to feel this perfectly, "throwing a frisbee".. If you try throwing a frisbee with the left hand you get that ribcage sway at speed. Absolute lightbulb moment @ericcogornogolf

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Год назад

      Hi Sam,
      Glad you enjoyed this video!
      The simplest way to think about the chest and shoulder action is: The more you keep your chest and shoulders closed in transition, the easier it is to swing from in to out. The more you rotate or over-rotate your chest and shoulders open in transition, the easier it is to swing from out to in/across the ball (or the harder it becomes to swing from in to out).
      Here are some more details on the shoulders that you might enjoy checking out!

    Fantastic video. Rib cage sway is so much more efficient than moving your pelvis left. When you look at skeletonal structure your rib cage and pelvis are only root causes to move you left and into the slot. By focusing on rib cage sway you have isolated the key anatomical movement that gets your torso left and then arms can be a reaction to get into the slot. It’s how you actually use your core to swing

    Hmmm...love you guys and love this move 🥁🥁🥁 buttt I really think and "feel" this is part of the *backswing* and not the downswing. Assuming you properly load up like Hogan with front cheek pointing towards target (belt buckle towards trail foot as he instructed). In other words it naturally happens as your lead leg starts posting right before the top. And yes continues thru the transition down, but I wanted to make this distinction because if you actually wait to do on downswing your head will move in a very undesirable postion towards or even ahead of ball. Again though, to be clear for others this move assumes you've got a proper Hogan backswing with loaded front cheek towards target. I would recommend just doing and feeling that and it will naturally lead to the most fluid transition that sends the ribs forward.

    This appears to be what other internet golf instruction sites call the "recentering move". A wonderful instructional piece that really explains what the golfer needs to do to get a more powerful, solid swing, especially for irons and other clubs that require a descending blow to achieve sucess. The only critique I can add is a little more explanation of the role the legs and pelvis play, if any, in the downward forward move of the sternum and chest to be ahead of the belt buckle into the downswing and the impact area. Is it a completely independent move or does it originate elsewhere in the lower body?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  Год назад

      Hey Everett!
      Thank you for watching the video!
      When measured on 3D, tour players actually shift their ribcage/"sternum" ahead of their hips/"belt buckle" for the first half of the downswing. In other words, this move happens until about hands hip high in the downswing. The hips will then start to shift in front of the ribcage from about hands hip high through to the finish.
      I would look to blend this move with the pieces discussed in the following two videos!

      As the arms, hands, and club are still working UP & BACK in transition, the lead side (with a bit of emphasis on the ribcage) should be shifting down & forward as well as rotating open towards the target.

    I’ve tried to understand this move down into the left foot forever. I think the mistake in the guidance is that you have to start getting the lower body moving to the target and unwinding “ahead” of the upper body move down. If you don’t, the hips are stuck behind and you have poor results.
