I like this show. It’s so creative with how it uses actual functions of vending machines. It actually got me curious about vending machines and got me looking into the history of vending machines. Turns out, the first vending machine predates BC. 😂
It's called good writing. In this case. Laying down some ground rules and sticking to them. Something pretty rare, particularly in dime a dozen isekais. But that's why it's my fav genre, because when a good one finally comes along, it's REALLY good, even when it does feature some annoying tropes. These goofy ones like turning into a vending machine offer a very unique premise, which makes it doubly good when they stick to its well established ground rules. The character is also believable and likable. Despite being in a bathroom at some point, doesn't perv out with the girls around and instead gets really flustered and questions if it's ok while any other anime character would just, be all over that shit. He has a great healthy relationship with the girl that found him and her science friend. And though the communication barrier is an obvious ploy for unique entertainment for the audience while the guy admits he could gain a talking skill any time he wanted, the writers give him a believable reason not to want it. In any entertainment, communication is OP. It solves problems so easily, so it's one of the hardest things to write around. So most decide to conveniently have phones, computers, etc get broken or lost almost immediately. Imagine even in this anime if the communication barrier didn't exist and boxxo could just possibly explain his ideas. Poof! All the entertainment value and tension of timed scenarios gone. The writers however made up for it by making the solutions believably figured out too. All in all. This show has very good writers. Some of the best in the business. It reminds me a lot of Dr. Stone. Sets rules, sticks to them. They're bound by science, while boxxo is bound even stricter by vending machine+barrier and some magic and science limitations. And neither of these animes have crap like pervy pedo shit! IT'S FUCKING GLORIOUS!!! Slime tensei would be perfect too if it didn't have that. Hmm. some other good ones are skeleton knight in another world. Reincarnated as a magical sword. Parallel world pharmacy. The devil is a part timer. Building a world of sweets. Prodigies plane crash into another world and take it over. The hero is OP but overly cautious. World's finest assassin. Jobless reincarnation. Killing slimes 1000 years. Death match to a parallel world rhapsody. Hmmmmmmmmmmm... that's all I can remember for now. Many of those have annoying cliches in them though. If they just didn't have them, they'd be perfect. Especially since they don't even effect the story. Could legit just cut them out with barely any editing to clean it up.
@@Subreon Death March Rhapsody is one of my favorites for a number of reasons. Now, I hate the whole "gotta hide my power level" BS in so many isekai. Like, if you're ungodly powerful, own it, right? In Another World With My Smartphone does that. Touya doesn't even bother trying to hide that he's OP, beyond the first episode (first few chapters of the novel). He doesn't even (or very rarely) downplay it. But Satou has an actual good reason for hiding his power level: he doesn't want to be bothered. He has decided he's on vacation and is going to tour this other world. That means he can't get bogged down by being made a hero and forced to fight wars against demons or whatever. So he generally only gets involved if it's going to cause problems for himself or his friends. Very Chaotic Neutral. Arisa's a bit of an issue (being incredibly aggressive and seeming not to remember that she's physically 12, even if her mental age is much higher), but Satou himself is entirely uninterested in his charges and is very much their adopted dad. The only exceptions are Lulu (when she's older) and Nana (she looks mature; however, he doesn't really perv on Nana due to her mental age).
I like how smart and mid the characters are here who actually achieves great things thru team work instead of solo op "i can handle this alone" character

Also, his being able to turn into a vending machine that sells panties is cool, because that actually exists in real life.

The balloon thing was so dumb. If they wanted him to survive the fall, they should have had him make a barrier and grow it until it floats. The balloons inside his barrier would actually just make him heavier and hit with more force. Barriers are kind of OP if you think about it, especially if you have 100% controls over their size and location.
Balloons float because they displace oxygen that would occupy their volume with a lighter gas. So if oxygen is able to pass his barrier (yes, I know it wasn't able to earlier), then making balloons inside it could push the oxygen out and make it lighter overall. And, of course, he did ultimately drop the barrier so he would also enjoy the drag from a bazillion balloons.
