I've never found a snuffer bottle with gold (I have found many empty snuffer bottles) but I have found quite a few vials with gold in them. I figure people have gold claims up river and they leave the vials with their gear and then the high water washes everything down when they don't move their equipment to safety before the winter storms. I also find other prospecting equipment like gold pans, funnels, screens, etc especially in the winter after big storms.

If you still want to use the paint brush but want it to have stiffer bristles to move heavier material just cut them in half or until stiff enough, hope this helps.

Fun video. Just a couple of suggestions: Use "parts brushes" and cut-off household liquid containers, split in half the long way. These act as super "dustpans" for cracks, and conform to the confines of cracks. I always secure my snuffer bottle via a fairly "weak" cord as a lanyard around my neck. Thanks.

I lost a snuffer bottle 2 yrs. ago with about 3-4 grams when I was watching kayakers go down the rapids. This year I found a bottle that looked like black sand. I almost threw it out, but put in a pan instead, it had 1.85 grams. I now have a holder for snuffy.
Always fun to go back to where you found your first picker and find more gold. Wish the area of Colorado I am in still had pickers but at best you now work pretty hard to find very fine microscopic gold so I just don't bother going out any longer. GD

I know that spot well. When I lived in Victoria I'd always go hang out on that beach on a hot summer's day. I was never into panning for gold. Now I wish I had a pan and tried.
Flood gold can be big and on the surface. You just aren't likely to dig the right spot without a detector. Deeper cracks are more likely to have larger gold because there has been more time for a large piece to settle.
I'm JD! (Or d for short) That bottle was full of gold when I lost it. The saddest day of my life. A bear attacked me and I was killed. My body washed down river where it was lodged between two large boulders and was never seen again. 😲
