Been following Cold since Shoutweb days. I remember there on their top 40 there was a song called No One. It was an immediate love. The pain in the voice, the melody, everything was just perfect. 13 ways was absolutely a masterpiece. I spoke with Scooter a few times in the early days on Cold's website. He and Shaun Morgan should come to Joe Rogan show. They are two of my favorite front-men from the early 2000's.
I always thought Cold was way better than bands like Staind and Limp or Korn, they never got their true due in the industry and they rebelled against it, which seemed pretty evident by the bonus track on Year of the Spider. The 2 decisions in their career I disagreed with were 1. releasing Stupid Girl as a lead single. I never liked Stupid Girl and even back then I recall it rubbing people the wrong way because they misinterpreted the lyrics. My god, there were SO many songs on Year of the Spider that were way better. Don't Belong, Wasted Years, Black Sunday, Whatever You Became. And on 13 Ways, Just Got Wicked was a sick song, No One was the shit, but instead of Bleed (which is definitely a great song that fans loved) I think they should've released other songs as singles like the song Witch or It's All Good. Also, they should have saved the song With My Mind for an album single instead of releasing it for that obscure video game Psi-Ops AND they should've re-recorded it in higher quality format because whoever mixed that song screwed up bad and it had horrible production for such a ridiculously amazing song. Cold will forever be a band of my heart because while so many bands are shallow, surface level rock bands, Cold struck a very distinct and well constructed balance between disgustingly good rock music and the ability to evoke ponderous emotions, anger and thoughtfulness, emotions we all needed to feel so we could process them. Cold should be revered among their peers. As they are by their fans.
