Really enjoyed this one. Brought back a memory you will like. Growing up in the shadow of a cotton mill in Roanoke in a "shotgun" home we heated with a Warm Morning coal stove. We had a coal house out back and my job was to bring in coal every day. One of my childhood memories was when I was about nine and first saw Superman on TV. 13:50. That building is almost identical to Archbishop Prendergast. It was an all girls Catholic high school 🏫 administered by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, located at Garrett Road & Lansdowne Avenue in the Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby.
Nice to see you all touring around such a pretty area that looks prosperious. This area, especially the road you started the video with looks like the drive on KY Rt9/The AA Highway out east of the Cincinnati area. Kind of makes me homesick. Between Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio, we have a town named Lebanon and it's pronounced the same way you pronounce this town in SW Virginia. This is such a pretty area. Nice tour. The Old Mill Restaurant looked kind of neat. It's the kind of place I'd pull in to give it a try. Too bad it closed but at least it's gonna be replaced by a place you say is a good place to eat at, at another of their locations.
You guys should head over to Pineville, Kentucky for the Kentucky Mt Laurel Festival. May 26th this year. Cool stuff, small town. Pine Mountain state park home of Chained Rock. 10 miles away you have Middlesboro, KY that was formed by a meteor crash long ago. The Pinnacle. Look it all up and go have some fun.
This was a good change of pace.Like going to town once a month! This was right in my budget!Health to you two kids.My uncle's lived in Lebanon, Tennessee.Named after the Cedars of Lebanon, home of Hiram, Solomon bought his cedar from Hiram. The workers of cedar were thought to be Mason's!
😳 the fact that I have never seen anyplace this clean especially in Virginia. I have lived in Richmond Virginia almost all of my life except the 6 years I lived in Chicago. What is the population? Homeless rate? It’s very beautiful.
Lebanon is my Grandmothers, and all her Siblings and their mother, my Great grandmother was all born & raised right there in town. Other side of the hill from slap town. Back then downtown had a piggly’ wiggly downtown. Years & years ago. The town has grown since back then. Most of the homes back then were shot gun shacks and or Big Annabella type homes. Old movie theater Dt to. Great grandmother was born in 1892, grandmother 1920. All them buried there up on a hill if the city hasn’t bulldozer down the grave sites. No tombstones really just a cross and all over the graves. Lots of historic things there.
Virginia has 4 piggly’ wiggles, Emporia, Danville, Norfolk, & Newport News. Other Southern states has them as well. Georgia North & South Carolina, Tennesee Mississippi Lousanna Arkansas Florida Alabama & Texas. I live in Georgia and Most rule towns have them and Food lions, Winn Dixie and ingles haha. Oh and Publix. All them grocery stores are based out of the South.
When my grandmother relocated to Tazewell Va they had Deskins, Food lion and Acme food stores. Only Food lion left. Grants came in and bought the old Acme grocery store. Tazwell to is a Great place in south west part ov VA. I know or knew lots of folks there to. Some of the younger generation and the elders that was there until they passed on. LOVE Tazewell.
P.S. about burning coal we lived in a trailer when I was younger we burnt wood however at night we’d throw in a big chunk of coal through the night needless to say I love the smell of it in the morning! Weird I know ! Thank you!

You are most welcome!! Funny enough, my dad operated a heavy equipment parts business out of the building to the left of courthouse from around 1997-1999 called Heavy Tech. I was born in Belfast, where I lived until I was 10, at which point my family moved to Wise. I graduated high school from John I. Burton, graduated college from UVA Wise, and then moved to New York (in 2018) for an internship. I ended getting a great job after the internship, so I stayed in NY. I thoroughly enjoy y’all’s videos all the way up here in Valley Cottage, NY! p.s.- For anyone from back home that wants to know, NY is a great place to establish a career, but it isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. It’s convenient having all kinds of amenities close, but that’s why the taxes are so high. They don’t know how to make cornbread up here (people make it like cake) and you can forget about soup beans, lol. I plan to move back south (probably to northern KY) in a couple years, to be closer to my family. There’s no place (and no where more peaceful) than the mountains.
Thanks to Real Appalachia (Shane?) and Ms. Melody for the ride. Really like those big tater tots. Y'all confused me. Is Bluefield collage and Bluefield University the same school? Thinking about sending someone there.
There are lyrics to Bonanza, but you're better off not hearing them - Lorne Green sang the song, it was used for a while in the 1st season of the TV show.

LOL I mean that is like saying my city has the best sewar system in all of the world. BK is vile no matter where. Sorry but dang. BTW you get points back for the Frogger reference... ;-) Yes Bonanza was a pretty large chain at a point really not that long ago. They had upwards of 150 operating and where primarily a Midwest chain that branched out down south. I think there was real shady things going with them, they where a solvent company on paper, I think the great mystery is yet to be and most likely we will never know. Sad they had a place and fit the Niche many people like. Cheers
you've obviously never been to the BK in Lebanon lol. Yeah, I always loved Bonanza and when we would see one in another town you trusted it to be good food way back when. A darn shame they've dropped off to almost nothing, the Lebanon Bonanza is really good and stays very busy so there's a market for it.

Yes, Lebanon is one of the busier towns in the coal country area of SWVA.
Just down the road from me here in Marion, VA
Just stumbled across your channel. I grew up in dickenson County. I used to work at Lear nect to Alcoa the 20 yr place you was talking about lol.
Awesome! Yes, I hate I totally drew a blank there! Haha Glad you found us! - Melody
Russell county! Me and my dad went to Lebanon VA
Hello from Scotland 🙂
Great video.
It'd be nice if someone turned the little coal store into a mini museum or a cafe perhaps, keep the history going 👍
Thank you! That is a great idea. I’d love to see that happen! - Melody
Very interesting! Thanks, Fred! - Melody
Omgggggg Bonanza steak house I’m going to take my wife there soon. Thank y’all for sharing another great video ❤️
Our pleasure! Yes, if you live Bonanza then this is as good as it gets usually
😳 the fact that I have never seen anyplace this clean especially in Virginia. I have lived in Richmond Virginia almost all of my life except the 6 years I lived in Chicago. What is the population? Homeless rate? It’s very beautiful.
Popular was about 3,200. If there is any homelessness it’s not tracked. Lebanon is a very clean and respectable town! You are so right. - Melody
lebanon is one of sw va s great little town s
Thanks for sharing!
Lived in this town almost my whole life and the curklins is doa
Great videos
I miss piggly wiggly
Thank you!
The smell of coal has a very odd appeal, I worked at amines and always liked to get a hit of it lol
This was a lovely trip.
Looks like a really Nice Place!
My husband and I really enjoy your videos. My mom's family is from Appalachia mountains via Missouri, so it's kind of like going back watching your films. One request though. Can' ya'll clean your windshield before doing your windshield tours? LOL
believe it or not, we actually did clean it right before filming (you should have seen it). Driving into the sun with an old vehicle makes it tough.
@@realappalachia lol I believe you. Down here it's hard to keep my windshield clean too. Especially love bug season. Just thought I'd mention it, my husband says something about it when we watch. Love your videos!
Yep...pronounced Lebnun. Beautiful area :).
Seen my grannies house there.
The legend of Youngstars.Quest snowquen's is my idol. Hes the person I aspirey to be, hes my light of day ..QQQQ
The hotel was the Carriage House….the only time I saw it full (with State Troopers) was during the strike…
Yessss, totally forgot the name of the hotel. I remember it’s vacancy numbers were pretty high all my life so I shouldn’t be surprised it is now gone
Wonderful video! So. Happy The Woke folks haven't torn down your Awesome civil war statues, Sad they took the muskets from the Pioneers though, Help is on the way!! Love Burger King!! Thanks Again for sharing my Sunday Morning Coffee with me !!!
glad to be of some entertainment sir, the Pioneer will always have a musket in my eyes lol
I HAVE A VERY GOOD FRIEND THAT WASA BORN IN LEBANON VA , EARLENE FIELDS COMBS SHE OWNS THE DRUG STORE THERE SHE WAS A RESPITORY THERAPIST VERYT GOOD PERSON U MIGHT KNOW HER
The name sounds very familiar!
Looks like a great town
That old blue factory building was operated by Leer for years. I believed that was the company you were thinking of.
Yes yes yes yes, Leer…that was it, thanks!
I live in Russell county Alabama!
Thanks to Real Appalachia (Shane?) and Ms. Melody for the ride. Really like those big tater tots. Y'all confused me. Is Bluefield collage and Bluefield University the same school? Thinking about sending someone there.
Bluefield College is now known as Bluefield University. There’s also a Bluefield State University to add to the confusion lol.
@@realappalachia THANKS! Disco07
We always go to the Bonanza!
Just messed my head up already
Amanda S Horn from Lebanon was 🔥 😃
There are lyrics to Bonanza, but you're better off not hearing them - Lorne Green sang the song, it was used for a while in the 1st season of the TV show.
that already sounds terrifying, I remember hearing Lorne Green "sing" Ringo
Have you all done a video of Honaker Virginia which I think is in Russell County been through there only once, looks like interesting.coal mining town that has probably seen better days, friendly people,a little out of the way, needs some TLC!
Honaker is my home town but we haven’t videoed it yet! We’ll get to it very soon. - Melody
@@realappalachia Doing one on Abingdon Va would be cool also.
Patio in Pennington Gap has a delicious peanut butter milkshake
That sounds fantastic
@@realappalachia I’m currently in Pilgrims Knob but from SE Kentucky and have been following since J.B. was in a band I drove up to Haysi to hear…love seeing you go places I often go!

Worlds fastest paved half mile and the worlds fastest dirt track is south of Bristol in Bulls Gap
Yes! Unfortunately the attendance to the races in Bristol have really dropped over the last few years. Hate to hear it. I’ve never been a fan myself but I grew up in a house where it was on very often! - Melody
19:38 I thought I was going to witness a bird strike 😳
That’s hilarious, I don’t remember noticing when I was driving
Bonanza theme song by Lorne Greene with lyrics on RUclips
Rikazy Ponderosy
Just watched it.
Dang just when I thought you two where good solid citizens and knowledgeable, You in start of video say best BK in America! LOL I mean that is like saying my city has the best sewar system in all of the world. BK is vile no matter where. Sorry but dang. BTW you get points back for the Frogger reference... ;-)
Yes Bonanza was a pretty large chain at a point really not that long ago.
@@realappalachia Agreed I always enjoyed them as well. I will eventually get through Lebanon sooner than later and will have to eat there if for nothing else than just good old nostalgia.
