Don't give up on your first try! The first time I made this origami, I ended up with a crumpled piece of paper. The second time, the flower was lopsided and didn't even look like a rose. By the sixth time today, I made a rose that Im really proud of and I do not regret all the hours I spent watching this video and learning how to make this origami. So please guys, don't give up-- it takes practice;)
The finished model is so amazing that I decided to give my girlfriend a dozen of these flowers, each folded out of a piece of sheet music, and in the middle I hid a little red origami heart. I hope she likes it!
Michaella Fairbairn Some sheet music doesnt have to be for reading and playing. Sheet music gets ripped and teared all the time. Music is an art. So why not make art out of the sheets.
OK I'm probably going to sound like an utter douchebag saying this, but it's super easy, just tedious as hell.. recommend you reserve at least 4 hours if trying this for the first time...
Everytime he said "so, that's it", I was so excited thinking that the process is over, only to find out there's still 15minutes plus of the tutorial to go..... GREAT video anyhow. I'm off to the florist now.... :(
Congratulations to you and to Naomiki Sato! I have made several attempts to adapt Kawasaki's rose to a pentagon with no success. This is beautifully done! A beautiful model and a clear and easy to follow tutorial. Thanks!
For anyone who's confused about the folds he starts to make at around 19:00 -- Another way you could do that fold is to do it while the paper's completely flat, after you have finished the other creases but before you have started any collapsing of the model. Looking from the back side of the paper, you have 5 triangles. A vertical line does through the middle of each triangle. There's a vertical line to the right of that middle vertical line. You want to make a vertical mountain crease (from the back perspective) 2/3 of the way from the middle vertical to the right vertical. You don't want to crease it all the way up to end of the triangle though...just crease it until you get to the inner diagonal crease of the triangle.
Dam it this is the most difficult origami I have ever seen. It is almost impossible to make precise folds and it gets very confusing. That shows how good that guy is at origami.
When you fold 1/3rd, the folded part is the same size as the unfolded bit at top. When you fold 1/4th, the folded bit is half the size of the unfolded paper. Just a simple tip. Hopefully someone sees this and finds it helpful.
Thank you so much for this! I had tried to make it a couple years ago but never could quite figured it out... Now that i've gotten some much needed practice I've succeeded! I made them for my graduating friends and for Mother's Day :)) This is by far my favorite origami rose to make~ (I've also memorized how to do it too! ahaha)
Excellent tutorial, thank you! And beautiful work! I do suggest to anybody first trying this, I would start with the Kawasaki rose. The techniques are similar but this one is a bit more complex.
I've always wanted to try this, so thank you very much for making this! It's very clear and I can understand it more easily than the photo-tutorial that I've been following!
For those people saying he cut the paper... of course he did, how else would he get a pentagon shaped piece of paper? I mean lots of people cut squares from A4 sheets of paper.
I was able to make this in my second try it’s such a beautiful model, For those trying to fold it, I really recommend mastering Nagasaki rose first, as both this and Nagasaki rose models are very similar, it really helped me out to make this rose. Have a nice folding 😄
Después de 1 año y 21 días, luego de más de 150 rosas, puedo decir que he aprendido los pasos de esta hermosa rosa y que para aprenderla ay que prestar atención a cada pequeño dobles que das
Thank you very much I made it using ordinary printer paper and it turned out amazing. I was worth spending this 3 hours to make 2. I hope that my grilfriend will be as amazed as I am. Keep doing great job and thanks again.
Beautiful pattern! I made it a year ago and it turned out beautifully. I am trying to make another one now, and it's a struggle lol. But I know that while my first attempt may not look pretty, the second attempt and so on will look better and better.
I know im way late to the party, but ive been trying my hand at more complex origami models, and this one is probably one of the more complicated ones ive attempted. Well, with your great instructions and a bunch of rewinding, I have successfully made this rose. Thank you!
Hey Tadashi Mori, I absolutely love your tutorials. All except this one, not because it's bad, but because I can not seem to get it. When I go to fold the rose into a cylinder it never looks the same. I have tried so many times. Thank you for your videos :)
Most of these views are for guys who tried to make these for a girl :). I myself did this 3 years ago and am coming back to make them for myself now :).
I did it! My first tissue fold failed. Then I tried using a big kami paper, and I found out how to find the folds inside the model. The next try on a double tissue did the trick :-) Tnx!

I know it’s old but thanks for the video! I’m making a bouquet of roses for my friend and his fiancées new apartment on request and this is the best model/video I’ve found!
Hi! I really liked this origami rose, but I'm having issues trying to find a good brand of paper that can stand the multiple folds. I tried tant paper but it was still hard to keep a good and nice shape of the rose and I was wondering if this is due to the fact that I was using a 15x15cm sheet instead of a 30x30cm like you show in the video. I would really appreciate if you could share with me the paper that you used to make this rose.
This is so easy! (Hahahahaha) the reason that this is so easy is that I could fold the other Satoru naomiki’s origami rose and I’m the really good origami maker! The first I made the other Satoru simple rose, it took 6 months to master it!
At the end, you mentioned to use good paper. And with the right size. Can you provide a link to where we can purchase the exact type/brand/size/color paper you used in this video?

Kawasaki's is easier
For anyone who's confused about the folds he starts to make at around 19:00 --

I think making this fold beforehand makes the model a bit easier to collapse.
that's where I got confused too. Though I don't think that line really matters. You can just figure it out as you collapse each layer
This has gone beyond a relaxation. This is a torment....
Same. Mine looks all crumpled and you cant tell where the lines are😖😖😖😖😖😖😖
