Hank Sr. wrote this song for his mom from something she had said to him driving into the record studio to record. Maybe she was remembering John 1:3-5. I will sing this at church tomorrow for our independent Baptist congregation. I will play the harmonica during the song's instrumental beginning, the two instrumental bars and a short bit at the end. I hope I do well it will be a break from traditional hymns. Hank was my grandparent's generation but I grew up with his music and still love it.
Because of the fact that my eyesight is horrible I have to learn to sing this song entirely by my ears alone and I have to match it with the beat of the song. It's only taken me about three times to get it completely right though. Thank you for the upload.
Hard to believe that a guy who could write such an inspired song would wind up dying in the backseat of a '52 Cadillac convertible at 29, a good deal of it because of a life of self abuse. R.I.P. Hank, I hope you really did get to see The Light.
I've suffered greatly from a car accident from someone running into my car@@thaimassagetracy & ruining my back. However, I was thankfully smart enough to know that jumping in a bottle isn't the answer, thank the Lord. The only one, "judging" here is you, Tracy, by completely mis-judging my comments.
I did a vocal with this backing and received a reply from youtube that it cannot be viewed in the United States, lack of clearance from the publisher (copyright holder).
It's a nice version, but I don't like th extra add on licks of the base guitar. It makes the song sound fake or like someone else's juiced up version of the original which was & always will be great. Thanks for uploading it.
No, sorry, but you can use some site to download videos from RUclips like RUclips to mp4 Downloader, just copy the video link and paste it over to the site to download the video
As I remember it(and it could have changed), copyright extends 50 years past the life of the copyright owner. Hank Williams died Jan 1, 1953, so his copyright would be expired, but the publisher can keep renewing it until it has no market value.
I get a southern accent when i sing this song!!lol
That's so funny, so do I!
lol I thought I was the only one.. heck I'm thinking in a southern accent as I type this! xD
I am not religious at all, but I love this song.
I got one of those when I was born 😂 or well I guess when I learned to talk 😅

We are not saved by good deeds, we are saved grace threw faith.
Hank suffered a great deal of pain from injuries sustained in a car accident. He used alcohol to deal with it.
Thou shall not judge.
God bless you .
@@ReaperOfTheSpirit thankfully in your case we're also not saved via improper verbiage. "Threw"?
