Just so you understand when Suga is messing with the girl, that is a Kdrama trope that was put in the MV. A lot of international fans didn't understand it but it is basically the pick on the girl because you like her thing. I didn't understand it at first either.
The Japanese version MV is wayyyy less cringy, if at all, and better quality. Simple but no unnecessary drama lol. Same with No More Dream Japanese version!! Boy In Luv (Japanese ver.) ruclips.net/video/ocqCmfw145A/видео.html No More Dream (Japanese ver.) ruclips.net/video/Q3n6wMdqnhk/видео.html
anthony too Especially Jin, apologized many times; he felt so guilty pushing her up against the locker. He tried to have a mean facial expression too, but with Jin's face that just isn't possible!
Quick summary: Jungkook likes the girl so they all act like assholes to make Jungkook look like an angel lmao. This was during the period of them trying to put on a bad boy like appearance and just acting tough; I’m just glad that they outgrew this and became more comfortable with their masculinity because I will never not cringe when I watch this music video. They ended up issuing an apology for some content that was released in this time period. A year or two after this video is when Namjoon really started educating himself on stuff surrounding misogyny. They basically ended up doing a complete 180 near the end of 2015. _“Through self-review and discussion, music and other creative activities are a part of our personal growth experience which can be affected by things we can’t be free of such as societal prejudice and mistakes as seen and learned in society. Additionally, we have learned that a woman’s role and value in society can be wrongly defined through a male’s point of view. Please continue to keep an eye on BTS’ growth, and if you continue to point out our shortcomings, we will take the advice of fans and the community and continue to work hard.”_
oof thank you for explaining that, i know that supposedly namjoon got advice from feminist writers after this whole era and thats how they wrote 21st century girl. its nice to see that they learned from their mistakes :)
I love how Anthony is so confused and surprised during this mv. Them being rough and all coming for one girl is like half the plot of every Kdrama 😂😂. I guess that’s why it didn’t really shock me
watching this reaction has the same energy as watching my mom show off my baby pictures to my friends. I was in highschool when this mv came out, so I could kinda relate to all that angsty love they were talking about in this song, but looking back at it, it's pretty cringey lol. Like, I get that this was based on like an 'shouju manga' concept the hand grabbing and rough housing, but they actually got a lot of flack for this song and a couple of others for being misogynistic. Good thing bangtan grew from those criticisms! also some background: The scene at the bridge was _supposed_ to only be Jungkook with the girl but he was so nervous acting around her that the director had to change it XD Also, in the behind the scenes, they were super nice to the girl (esp Jin) and apologized to her after the scenes lol.
It’s common in korean dramas or korean love clichés that theres a school bad boy who goes after a girl, the fantasy that he’s rough on the outside but when it comes to her he’s soft to her is common
hey anthony! just to clear this up, the boys when filming would apologize to her after every scene lmao like jin after slamming her into the locker started bowing. i think it was just the directors fault because the boys would never actually do that. and also the song is a fucken bop. and when youre a new army you do find their old vids cringy but then u get used to it and love it. and thank you for reacting to boy in luv.
I always interpreted the MV as why they are so agressive is because the girl like dated 3 of them and they found out so now they kinda make her choose.
Don't agree with everything in this MV, but other than that I don't find it cringy at all... One of my favorite songs. Absolutely love the sound, the choreo, the visuals. And the drive, too. Feeling scared already for my beloved "War of Hormone".
I was never offended by it. Not then, not now, which is probably why I usually don't talk to people about it, although I get where they're coming from. I loved the lyrics the minute I heard them. Found them to have a doze of self-humor, too. It's such a delightfully funny song and simply awesome all-around. (And since it's possible to say "you're the fate's gift" in my culture, I have a certain take on the lyrics, etc.) But definitely agree about it being a bop. :)
Yo, I could not stop laughing at your reaction the whole time. 😂😂😂😂 my favourite part when sugar holds the girl “get off her my guy” then sugar looks her up and down “suga what’s going on bro” Then Jin throws her against the lockers “bro whatch y’all doing” oh my gosh 😂😂😂
It’s always funny to look back on those old music videos again it really shows how much our boys have actually grown, however I’m still glad that BTS gave an apology because they really educated themselves and realised that some parts of the music video were very misogynistic and just too much hsjsjs
T Wenger yes, you are not wrong, however I think it has way more meaning that BTS themselves apologised because it really shows us that they educate themselves, instead of just trying to clear up their image through their company. Also, don’t forget that namjoon and yoongi did participate in writing the lyrics so they actually had a say in this and isn’t it just nice to see that they actually grew as people? :)
Hahahha I’m cracking up 😂 at your reactions...the scenes with the girl, they literally had to keep bowing and apologizing to her behind the scenes for the roughness because they had to make as real as possible.
anthony's so cute for getting kinda pressed and shocked when the boys were being so aggressive with the girl in the video...idk its just cool to see that he's always so respectful towards women and doesn't see them as objects. (i'm not saying that bts view girls as objects)
This! I've noticed him doing this before, you can tell he was well raised, he even has really nice respectful friends too. I remember him being unhappy with the Jay Park Mommae video and I was so proud of him airing his grievances about that too. He's a sweetheart. But Anthony... stop hiding your face with your locs! :D ;)
Women are just seen as weak, which makes predators go after them which is not okay. I think Men are honestly seen more as tools because men are supposed to be strong and the gentleman and some females abuse that while the public doesn't seem to care, but when it's a female that gets 100x more serious??? Sorry about bringing this up, but much love to BTS 💜
I don't find it cringey at all, maybe because I've been in the fandom many years now, but our boys grew up well and the fact that now the quality and complexity of their music gets better, makes me really really happy. New fans maybe feel this kinda awkward but this still a bomb in concerts, because this was bangtan the underdog group that now rules the world
Yeah the videoclip is really aggressive, but in the behind the scenes the guys were so shy about the girl. And Jin in that lockers scene, he asked her sorry so many times
Oh my god I laughed during the whole video! And also, I appreciate the fact that you didn't normalize their attitudes towards the girl. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do that now but it's nice to see reactors who actually call that out! And I totally get you with the cringe, but it's all part of the process! Great vid as always Anthony ❤️ much love
Its kinda cool you noticed their level of aggression with the girl. South Korea is still a very conservative country wich really shows in some of their dating/romance culture. Men portraying manipulative and boarderline abusive behaviors is often romanticized and its more noticable in K-dramas that focus on romantic relationships. There was a survey a while ago about how like 80% of korean guys asked admitted to some form of emotional manipulation/abuse of their female partners. In this video, the boys were definitely trying to portray some elements of this aggressive behavior. I'm not trying to bash them since durring this time they were experiencing a concept shift, but I'm also not excusing them. They've grown alot, and I'm proud of them for that, but I hope I've provided a bit of extra context. Loving the old stuff series tho dude. Excited to see your next paetreon post too.
The early BTS concepts where school themed because some of the members were still in school (especially Jungkook). This means that they could genuinely express and talk about their experiences and their opinions, being students themselves. THE TIMELINE OF YOUTH STORY: Hence the School trilogy era (2Kool 4Skool, ORUL82?, Skool luv Affair). After this trilogy comes the rebellion of youth (Dark and Wild, Wake Up). the next eras are about the transition of youth to adulthood. This is because as the members mature and age, so do their concepts and themes. This is for them to be able to realistically tell their story that could relate to others that went through youth and who are going through youth. I think it is what makes them such a unique group because they can tell their story (literally) through music. Music can transcend language and carry a message for everyone to relate to.
I died through this entire reaction. Hahah love it! "Why are they being so rough with her?" Like others have said, the behind the scenes of this MV is great because they bow and apologize and such. Thanks for reacting! :D
oop this is like my fav bts song and i don't even really know why lmao i am pretty sure it is the first video i ever saw of them without having any idea who they are and when i started stanning them i went back to this song and was like holy shit i know this
same! I came during DNA Era and I was like they don't have any hard hitting songs? And when I found this I listened to this everyday and tried to the dance😂💀
OH GOSH WHO ASKED YOU TO REACT TO THIS MESS AKJWHDIDD I laughed so much and cringed with you for the 26537th time because of this MV lmao I'm literally crying from laughing too much. Your face was the funniest shit man ahaha
Actually they are really polite towards females. And they were so sorry and couldn't stop apologising to her after scenes were filmed which is so cute...they went through a lot and tried so many things making mistakes and saying sorry after but this helped them to become who they are rn
South Korea has not had the “social revolution” that most western countries went thru in the 60s and 70s. So, their views/attitudes towards women and romantic relationships are pretty old fashioned and a fairly misogynistic (think like 1950s America). If you think this video is crazy, watch some of the K-dramas that are popular there.
Scifikimmi From what I have seen there is a lot of pushback because there were feminists that were just absolutely ridiculous and now most of the country thinks all feminists are like that. So there is still a very long battle.
Wendy Smith Now I can tell you have no information about Korea and Bts especially RM hates someone who talks about other countries’ cultures that they don’t even know well like you. South Korea also went through social revolution and the way we Kpop express mv is very diverse. This is not Korean men treats women at all. This is only a mv and this is expressing tough guy’s aggressive feelings about the girl so please grow up. In Korean, this song’s real translation is tough guy(상남자) not boy in love.If you watch a movie and bad guy kiied someone then you think that person or that country people are all like that??How pathetic and childish you are!!Stop mentioning about other countries culture which you don’t have any exact background. If we didn’t go through a social revolution, explain about last president who was woman. Why don’t you study and think intellectually? If you’re an army, learn from Bts’s politeness and respection about other countries. We Korean ( also Bts) are pissed off of your wrong comments!
Bang PD said that their music are greatly influenced by their personal lives that's why their earlier albums are mostly about school/student stuff because they were students at that time ☺️
Im laughing my but off because you looked SHOOOOKED when suga was harassing that girl and the part were Jhope said hakuna matata lol🤣🤣🤣 can't wait for the the crack vid reaction
I hope you're feeling better man, your twitter posts have had me worried about you. Do what makes you happy because you do so much to make others happy.
this video was so funny xDD if you want to cringe even more and see their "bad boy trying to get the girl" you should watch "war of hormone" everything on that video is awkward, i'm glad they left that in the past
Fetus Era BTS is awesome tongue-in-cheek madness. LOL I actually LOVE RM's hair in this. A COUPLE steps up from Bulletproof Pt. 2 and No More Dream for sure! I have always wondered: why is Jimin mopping the bathroom? I assume as punishment for being the hard, naughty bad boy his original persona was but... It's okay to cringe. It's cringey! LOL That scene with Jimin and JK in the bathroom! Suga manhandling that girl! The lyrics! I guess they caught a LOT of flack for this song, and RM was pretty much shamed enough to start studying gender issues and talking to gender studies professors for advice writing lyrics and concepts. I do a lot of facepalming watching these old vids. This one in particular is really kinda problematic. HA! Right before you said "assholes," I was like, "Oh, sure, you're cute, but your friends are assholes." LOL
I'll be waiting for that intro 😂😂💕💕 When this was first released i really love the mv so much but yeah now i'm cringing plus the subtitles isn't helping 😂 though i still love it.
ohmygod you had wayy too much fun watching this 😂 this was the first BTS MV i have ever watched but i've been watching kdramas for years so those scenes weren't really new to me
oh damn I love your reaction because I get SO EMBARRASSED when I watch anything older than INU, the way they try to appear bolder than they really are just makes me cringe a lot since I grew accustomed to their seemingly effortless yeah-I'm-worldwide-famous characters lately... Edit: like I remember Yoongi being afraid of climbing off that basketball hoop lmao
anthony too dw boo stick with what u think is right, I mean it's ur account, plus as a viewer, I think if u like the channel u have to trust the creator. And if there's something I don't like, I'd move on. I think ur doin great hun, everyone just has their opinions🙂
Its worth noting that this is the era where they all "meet" each other, which sets up the story line that starts after this era is over. The story stuff comes from extra videos released showing them all coming to school late and getting in trouble at the same time which is how they become friends which leads up to the following albums and the story after.
Love it when you enjoy them, analyze their performances and Laugh; understanding (with an Open mind) its their early days (low budget, nervous, learning to own the stage/set, etc) ~ this is what convinced me to follow you! Thx for ur reactions! PS: Rest well please! (Ur reactions are better received; and stay healthy!)
Ah i love watching your reaction to their older stuff now that you quite familiar with the stuff they do nowadays. They've changed so much and i love your videos. Keep it up man 💓
This is the era I discovered BTS. I saw the live performance of Boy In Luv and thought 'Umm I think they're trying to hard' and skipped them. THEN HARUMON (Just One Day) came out and I FELL IN LOVE😳😳. Suga's rap pulled me in but Jin stole my heart.

oh no i bet.. im sure they did because they're the complete opposite of aggressive.
anthony too
Especially Jin, apologized many times; he felt so guilty pushing her up against the locker. He tried to have a mean facial expression too, but with Jin's face that just isn't possible!

Yes yes yes!! All their early dance practices are great!!
Essential!
Don't agree with everything in this MV, but other than that I don't find it cringy at all... One of my favorite songs. Absolutely love the sound, the choreo, the visuals. And the drive, too. Feeling scared already for my beloved "War of Hormone".

This song is low key still a bop...
not bad at all
Yeah the videoclip is really aggressive, but in the behind the scenes the guys were so shy about the girl. And Jin in that lockers scene, he asked her sorry so many times
Emily Souza it doesn't matter bc the MV sent a wrong msg...anyway BH has improved about things like this since then

Bro I'm barely surviving the old song reactions because there's so much cringe in the videos and ahahshahshshasssshsh
YOU ROSTED THE FUCK OUT OF J HOPE AT THE END I FUCKING FELL OF MY BED IM-
LMAO
Love the song but the mv is cringe. Even bts has cringed looking back on it. The choreo is really epic though
Stop callin my boy J-Hope out like that! 😂😂😂 Lmao loved this reaction man. Thumbs up
LMAO
wait can i just say i rlly like ur smile
I didnt realize you havent watched this already
Bang PD said that their music are greatly influenced by their personal lives that's why their earlier albums are mostly about school/student stuff because they were students at that time ☺️
yeah their first 3 eps (2 cool 4 skool, orul82, school luv affair) are named the school trilogy so they are centered around school and kids
I swear you are one of the most adorable humans ever! Love your reactions!
the era that i came to like bts omg
Im laughing my but off because you looked SHOOOOKED when suga was harassing that girl and the part were Jhope said hakuna matata lol🤣🤣🤣 can't wait for the the crack vid reaction
You need to react to war of hormones!!
Im so so excited about then intro outro reactions!! What Am I To You and Never Mind are still my favs
I hope you're feeling better man, your twitter posts have had me worried about you. Do what makes you happy because you do so much to make others happy.
anxiety has been kicking my bottom, i'm working on it
Lol when you were talking about the mixtape i laughed so hard 😂
everytime i watch boy in luv i just laugh so hard
this video was so funny xDD
if you want to cringe even more and see their "bad boy trying to get the girl" you should watch "war of hormone" everything on that video is awkward, i'm glad they left that in the past
This Reaction Was Priceless
You should react to bts war of hormones. That video is even wilder than this.
react to bts boy in luv dance practice they are so lit in this song
Oh yessaa
Back when jungkook wanted to be everyone’s oppa 🤧
Ur gonna b super surprised reading the lyrics for WoH ahshussb
Wild
LMAOO imma need you to leave my boys alone😭😭😂😂
“your friends are excused for being assholes” I CANT BREATHE
This was THE song that got me into BTS since 2014...they've grown so much yet their music has been enjoyable since the beginning.....
I'll be waiting for that intro 😂😂💕💕
When this was first released i really love the mv so much but yeah now i'm cringing plus the subtitles isn't helping 😂 though i still love it.
Thank you for reacting to Boy In Luv..It’s my all time favourite..😍😘💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻💜
i swear i laughed during this whole video🤣
Your face when Jin popped up in front of the girl after Jungkook. I laughed so hard I kinda waited til u get to that part 😂😂
i wheezed. “im startin every video like this”🤣
your reaction was so funny 🤣
I didn't realize how funny this music video is lol this is your best reaction yet
ohmygod you had wayy too much fun watching this 😂 this was the first BTS MV i have ever watched but i've been watching kdramas for years so those scenes weren't really new to me
Ur reaction is just PRICELESS
oh damn I love your reaction because I get SO EMBARRASSED when I watch anything older than INU, the way they try to appear bolder than they really are just makes me cringe a lot since I grew accustomed to their seemingly effortless yeah-I'm-worldwide-famous characters lately...
Edit: like I remember Yoongi being afraid of climbing off that basketball hoop lmao
I can't stop rewatching this
This videos just so funny it's prolly one my favourite vids from this channel, but like it feels wrong claiming favourite
a lot of people got offended by it sadly
anthony too dw boo stick with what u think is right, I mean it's ur account, plus as a viewer, I think if u like the channel u have to trust the creator. And if there's something I don't like, I'd move on. I think ur doin great hun, everyone just has their opinions🙂
I love this song since it came out, but yeah the aggressiveness part in the MV was too much lol.
It’s 4am and I just dropped off my bed laughing I really loved this 💓
Sksksks “the bad ass came out of them” IVE NEVER THOUGHT OF IT LIKE THAT AND IDK WHY
This my song
LMAOOO THIS WHOLE VIDOE HAD ME CRYING
The end got me CACKLING with my WHOLE THROAT your intro's better be like tha😭
Its worth noting that this is the era where they all "meet" each other, which sets up the story line that starts after this era is over. The story stuff comes from extra videos released showing them all coming to school late and getting in trouble at the same time which is how they become friends which leads up to the following albums and the story after.
Love it when you enjoy them, analyze their performances and Laugh; understanding (with an Open mind) its their early days (low budget, nervous, learning to own the stage/set, etc) ~ this is what convinced me to follow you! Thx for ur reactions!
PS: Rest well please! (Ur reactions are better received; and stay healthy!)
this is actually the first song that I've heard from BTS! Still holds a special place in my heart
THE AMOUNT OF TIMES I PISSED MYSELF LAUGHING... I CAN'T
You're doing great Anthony :D
You making funny of them, give me life, cause is so funny
OMFG THIS VIDEO IVE BEEN WHEEZING THE WHOLE 11 MINUTES LAKSLSKSDK
Honestly boy in luv and war of hormones are my fave lol
The innocence gets me
His reaction to Suga’s part Lmao 😂😂
This era is the funniest i love it
If you watch the behind-the-scenes, Jin actually checks on her after the cut to make sure she's ok and apologizes.
anthony had too much fun watching this 🙂
def
after this and war of hormone, 21st century girl is the best glow up lol. it's so nice to see them learning from the past & educating themselves
"they hold themselves tight" HAHAHAHAHAHA IM CRYING
its 2018 and I still can't believe that they turned themselves into a car :)
I love your reactions
Yooo one of the songs that got me into bts! Awesome~
Hi Anthony, love your vids
Ah i love watching your reaction to their older stuff now that you quite familiar with the stuff they do nowadays. They've changed so much and i love your videos. Keep it up man 💓
this was seriously so funny, couldn’t stop laughing while watching it 😂😂
The choreo for this song is superior
This is the era I discovered BTS. I saw the live performance of Boy In Luv and thought 'Umm I think they're trying to hard' and skipped them. THEN HARUMON (Just One Day) came out and I FELL IN LOVE😳😳. Suga's rap pulled me in but Jin stole my heart.
This is my favourite reaction video of all time
