Misterchuffy. I production managed this shoot. Sadly Peter is deceased. Cutting edge motion control but Forte delivered the food days early and the actor had a job “enjoying “ the rancid fare. The real PanAm cabin crew partied hard with various Holmes Knight Ritchie creatives I believe
@@ejenplitobarcesyes that was how I stumbled upon this video. Trying to find the actual commercials that go along with the "Music for Commercials" tracks. This is still the only one I've ever found. Crazy that Christopherson both directed the commercial and composed and performed the backing track as well. A man of many talents.
So True. lol..I am not sure which is worse about flying these days. The hateful employees that work at airlines, the TSA people that look ghetto and look like they should be working at Wal Mart, that seem more than happy to molest you, or the nasty poorly dressed passengers that are fat and rude, but that is flying in the US. Flying has become a chore that most people would rather not endure. lol....It used to be something that you looked forward to, lol...But I know, everyone on here says it, those days are gone. lol....Yes, they are, but that doesn't mean we can't look back at the golden age of flying and just enjoy the videos. I sometimes think I was born about 20 years too late. lol.....
PAN AM represented so much tradition....from their Flying Airboats of the 1920s and 1930's....to their wonderful Clipper Clubs....very elegant. Great part of history. Thanks :) :)
Even sadder, all Pan Am had WERE those faded 747s, because after the acquisition of National they were in debt up to their eyes and couldn't afford to renew the fleet. That was one hell of a wrong move. Without the dab management and megalomania they'd still be around. I miss it.
For 1991 years that did not pass from this commercial broadcast so much in time either, I did not think that Pan Am became extinct possibly. Pan Am thinks that it is the symbol of the American golden age. Would these days of 80's be the brightness of the company last?
@matatan69 Pan Am was not bought down by Flt 103 over Lockerbie, Pan Am's ills started at least 10 years prior to that, with it's ill-timed merger with National Airlines, following 1978 deregulation act. Pan Am was not suited for the new world of open aviation, and was picked apart by United and Delta unitl it's ultimate demise.
Pan American started in 1964 than Pan American gave up in 1998. Then it started in 2002 again and gave up at 2008. I flew with Pan Am it was beautiful, but now Pan Am don't exist anymore ;(
@matatan69, Even though I agree with you, I think even without Lockabee PanAm was dying because remember they sold off their profitable Pacific Division in 1985 to UA.
Along with the terrorist incidents of 1986 and 1988 on Pan Am flights, public loss of confidence in the airline security also resulted in a loss of trade.
Pan Am was the most powerful in the world and well popular! I still miss the huge blue dot on the tail of the plane. Pan Am was the best compare to Singapore Airlines
Most likely yes as they were very close to Airbus in their final years. Got A300s and A310s and they ever ordered A320s before canceling them due to their crippling financial problems.
This ad is a flop, all due respect. If it were done in the 50s, maybe it would have been a success. But everyone knew what Pan Am was in the 80s, knew they were about good service, good food, complementary beverages. TWA had a more substantial ad in the 80s, underscored with the tagline, "Leading the way, TWA."
I hate the fact that two airlines bought the rights to use the Pan Am Name just to have horrible service and poor management. Not to mention used aircraft. Does not matter who buys the name it will never be like the old days.
Cracked Magazine in 1987 predicted that Pan Am and TWA were eventually going to become "Pan Pneumatic" and "Trans World Tubes" if pneumatic tube travel ever became a reality. If both airlines were to survive into the dawn of such travel, do you think that this is what they would have renamed themselves?
Hey, amazing what you find on RUclips. I wrote this spot back in the mid 80's. The director was Peter Christopherson.

Also, the music for the commercial was performed by Coil

@@subtledemisefox there's also a perfume commercial from 1987 called "Le Jardin d'Amour", which has the Coil track "Perfume" in the background
Because today most airlines treat there employes like crap and after years of that it shows. Pan Am till the end treated there people with respect !

Pan Am was a great airline with a long history. It should still be operating today. I am sad they are no longer around.
Pan Am...Those were the days....You will never see another!!!
Every country has an airline, the WORLD has Pan Am.
I love eighties commercials. So well done.

Wow I never knew they had helicopters over new york.....and I noticed the WTC in the back, R.I.P.
the model plane is cute :-)

@matatan69,
Even though I agree with you, I think even without Lockabee PanAm was dying because remember they sold off their profitable Pacific Division in 1985 to UA.
Good memories. Loss of identity.
It resembles what an I-Pad might have looked like back then.
Two things we surely will miss the World Trade Center towers and Pan Am at 0:17
1980s GOOD OLD NORMALITY DAYS
What is that contraption the passenger is using at 00:20?
'tis an old ass calculator
wow

She's pouring him Cristal champagne! They served Cristal on the house back then?!?!?!
They dont make them like this anymore! (The commercials)
pan am is still around, but as a railroad
Dinosaurs in any industry never last. You have to move with the times to compete head on. Ask Rover....they could tell you (but they're gone too! mmm)
One day i will re lanche pan am air line to the all world .
@AnAnonymousWolf yes and not necessarily for the better.
Pan Am was the most powerful in the world and well popular!
I still miss the huge blue dot on the tail of the plane. Pan Am was the best compare to Singapore Airlines
I wonder....if Pan Am was still around today, would they buy the A380?
Pan am was pioneer in everything they were I guess the first to buy 747s so I am pretty sure they would have bought A380s as well
I think Pan Am may operate only A380 in Pacific ocean routes, like Emirates operate lots of A380 over the world.
Most likely yes as they were very close to Airbus in their final years. Got A300s and A310s and they ever ordered A320s before canceling them due to their crippling financial problems.
@MrTroll199
Juan Trippe would be rolling in his grave
What would happen if they served Cristal champagne in dribble glasses?
!!!!!!
@gloomyoutlook
Okay...thanks
Huh I thought
TWA= That Wonderful Airline lol

wtf? TWA was great
@WanderingProphet
LOL PanAm does not exist anymore! teher won't be A380
Yeah really. Remember when people dressed up to fly? I always try to at least wear a nice shirt but man!
