Fun Fact: Though GTA: London 1969 was marketed as the first expansion pack for the PS1, the Japanese version of Konami's rhythm game Beatmania (a port of the arcade 2ndMix) was the first game on the PS1 to have expansion pack support in the form of "Append Discs". These discs included additional tracks and required the Beatmania disc to play the additional tracks. Players had to access the disc change menu on the Beatmania disc, swap the game disc for an append disc, then press the start button to load it and play. Its first append disc, Beatmania APPEND Yebisu Mix, was bundled with the PS1 version of Beatmania game as the 2nd disc (released on October 1, 1998), with later append discs being released as cheaper, standalone retail releases, starting with Beatmania Append 3rdMix, which was released on December 23, 1998, four months before GTA: London 1969.
Hate me all you want, but GTA: London was actually one of the best GTA games. I'd even put it ahead of GTA: Vice City Stories and GTA: Liberty City Stories. The game is the only GTA game in a real city, and the only GTA game out of U.S., AND also the only game of GTA in the 1960s. Surprisingly, if there even is one, I like the storyline of the British gangs.
The weird world of the original top down grand theft auto games, where there's just so many random people waiting around in their conspicuously parked cars for you to get in so they can get you to do jobs for them. Because despite all of them owning fancy, conspicuously parked cars, none of them apparently know how to drive and are just waiting on the kindness of a random carjacker to figure it out for them.
It would be totally different. This is the 1960s Swinging London and old school cockney villains, which are captured beautifully in this game. Modern London has changed and that sort of thing just doesn't really happen anymore. A game set now would have to feature things like roadmen and suchlike.
