I had an instinct at the very opening of the film when the first opening titles appear, that this was going to be an excellent transfer. There was tremendous contrast which gave me hope that this transfer would not only be full of extra detail, but also take advantage of HDR. It did not disappoint. It is really a reference disc in my opinion. It’s such a shame studios don’t get it this right more often. Truly spectacular looking presentation.

Ok. Everyone is making me want to buy this. I didnt think The Fugitive would be so respected or loved today. I've always had a soft spot for this movie.

Director Andrew Davis made some entertaining and technically solid action thrillers back in the 1980ies and 90ies. He was responsible for the best Chuck Norris movie (Code of Silence), the best Steven Seagal movie (Under Siege) and the underrated The Package (Gene Hackman, Tommy Lee Jones). The Fugitive is his best IMHO: A fine script, good performances and an all-around superb presentation, including atmospheric cinematography by Michael Chapman (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) and a pounding score by James Newton Howard (Unbreakable, The Hunger Games). The 4K disc courtesy of WB is, as expected, underwhelming regarding special features. As far as I can see there’s only the legacy stuff from the old 20th Anniversary Edition from 2013 minus the Fugitivie TV Pilot. Thanks for the review. 👍

You’re welcome. Definitely one of the best directors in the business. Under Siege was fantastic. I also always appreciated his other work with A Perfect Murder, the Michael Douglas thriller which was the remake of Dial M for Murder. The Package sounds great, I gotta watch that one sometime soon.

I also thought Collateral Damage with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Above the Law with Steven Seagal and Chain Reaction with Keanu Reeves and Morgan Freeman were good too. Underrated as well

Yeah boy! I am glad that they did it right. I can't help noticing that some of the big titles that one would like to be excellent turn out awful, like Terminator 2 4k, or just meh. I bought The Fugitive twice on DVD and both copies had a problem with the encoding and stopped working after a little while. Hopefully I can get the 4k.

I remember this was a huge movie back in 1993. I’m guessing WB will not produce a new remastered blu ray.

Definitely was. I still remember the movie poster adds for it all over town. Crazy how it’s been 30 years. Yeah, most likely Warner won’t produce remastered editions of it on Blu-ray for now. Unless they start doing what Universal Pictures has as of late, like the remastered Blu-ray editions of Backdraft and Casino.
