    Next year I’m getting my cardio up…..I lost a giant chrome coho I chased down river when it was zipping down current…. I was tripping and falling in the river while trying to skip over rocks yelling “COMING DOWN”…nearby fisherman yelling to encouraging me to push and get back up after eating shit half a dozen times….down to a third of my backing. I couldn’t keep up with the fury of the coho and against rock hopping and tripping over; Left me battered and winded with no avail…..8lb seaguar leader gave me all it had to give. At least the spectators and the old timers who encouraged me validated my split second decision to chase and challenge a formidable chrome coho (which I did see jump out of the water after eating my egg well over 18lb) rather than stay stationary to break off and not pursue. My korkers were missing six spikes in total and waders soaked…. I was alive in a way I never imagined, i live for those moments. Tight lines fellas!!!!!

      That’s one heck of a battle my friend! Been there, done that. Some of those fresh fish can be pretty humbling, been left out of breathe with severe bicep pain many times haha. The battle rages on! Tight lines to you as well! 🎣

    I don't see how anyone can enjoy combat fishing. It takes all the good part of being out there.

      It’s certainly a different type of fishing. I’m with you, I’d rather be off the grid by myself on a freestone river chasing brook trout, but I think it’s nice to have nuance. Those drone shots are from the public water in the town center, when we go over we buy passes on the DSR which is considerably less crowded. First time I ever felt the strength of a fully mature king salmon on a fly rod I was hooked - pun intended! 😆

    Man, dont even bother responding to negative comments. I have done this on the lake , really want to try it in the river but the crowds really freak me out.

    • @WoodsNorth
      @WoodsNorth  5 месяцев назад +1

      Haha thanks man. I don’t mind barking back at some of the keyboard warriors on these videos. They usually can’t form a coherent rebuttal, and it helps boost the engagement on the video. Win-win. The crowds on the public stretches of river during the salmon run are unbearable. When we go over each fall we buy DSR passes to avoid the masses. Definitely worth the extra couple hundred bucks in my opinion 🎣

    • @mattgohlke8216
      @mattgohlke8216 5 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely. I have tried the steelhead fishing out there once, but I tried tactics that we use here in the Saranac River for salmon and trout. I ran into a local guide there and showed him what I was doing and he almost drowned laughing 😅. He was gracious enough to show us the ropes and 10 minutes later he caught a huge steelhead showing us how its done. Excited to go try again.

    Hi...can you explain what rod,reel and setupleader did u use ?

    • @WoodsNorth
      @WoodsNorth  Год назад

      Absolutely! My rod is a Douglas LRS 9ft 4 piece 9wt. Reel is the Okuma SLV 8/9wt. I have 200 yards of 30lb Dacron backing tied to Rio Gold 9wt floating line. My leader is a Rio Gold 9ft 16lb tapered flurocarbon leader, and to that I tie a blood knot to 2 feet of 12lb Seaguar Red Label abrasion-resistant flurocarbon. I start with two #3 tin split shot above my tippet knot and add more weight as is needed. Tons of options for flies. Hope this helps, good luck if you’re getting out there! 🍀

I did except his last name was spelled Mac mine Mc same name though that was at jury duty both of we’re wondering why did they call my name twice so we walked over to table and it’s like your Brian nice to meet you, you too Brian 🤣

    If the hook is not IN THE MOUTH, it is foul hooked and should be released at once. Under the chin is not fair hooked. Otherwise a nice video.

    • @WoodsNorth
      @WoodsNorth  Год назад +2

      I couldn’t tell exactly where he was hooked until he landed in the net and by that point was very much not going to make it. The person in the video who asked where it was hooked was actually a DSR official who had no issue with any of it. Thank you for checking the video out 🤙🏼

  • @MantoMayer

    Seems your superficial hook sets are do to you not having proper line control during your drift. While following your drift, the line should be captured between your index finger and cork. Not free to spool on that shit drag reel. Fish on!

    I wouldn't give those bastards a dime to fish what is rightfully the states water and not Private... They don't contribute a dime towards restocking.

    • @WoodsNorth
      @WoodsNorth  Год назад

      That’s ultimately the fault of the state of New York. In Vermont where I’m from, property lines do not exceed the high water mark against any river or lake, but in New York property lines can run to the center of the river or even across the river. Also as far as funding goes, restocking is paid for through grants from the USFW as well as license sales from the NY DEC, and you cannot fish the DSR without a license. I understand some people have issues with the DSR existing but it can’t be because they aren’t cutting a check to the hatchery every year.

    • @WoodsNorth
      @WoodsNorth  Год назад +3

      It’s a pretty big effort for us to get over there, with a large travel commitment and months of planning. I’d rather spend a couple extra hundred bucks to fish at a location that isn’t covered in trash and packed wall to wall with other anglers. I go over once a year, and have always had a great time at the DSR.
