  • Hey guys, I am tired of winter so it is time to start using our outdoor kitchen again. Didn't have enough sunlight to finish everything in the Sun Oven Sport, but we have a great backup which is the SilverFire Survivor Rocket stove. Thanks for watching and God bless.

    If you are interested in a Dragon Pot, or Survivor Rocket stove here is where I get mine, you won't be sorry.

    I am so with you brother, cannot stand another day inside! There's always a lot to do, so today while I'm outside prepping the new (old) coop for our own peepshow, I'll fire up the cooker (which is attached to the fire pit) and simmer come beans.
    Happy Spring! Your dance really did work after all!

    I have never heard of the sun or rocket stove until now. I think that's the coolest thing I have seen. I need to invest in that rocket stove. I hope it's ok for me to share this video with my Mom and step-Dad. They will love this and will be buying one, too. I loved this video.

    When you cooked on the rocket stove before, I loved it and bought one. (Last summer?) I used it to can strawberry jam in the yard. The water boiled fast and furious. I collect sticks, but I also bought a bag of charcoal just in case there has been lots of rain and the sticks are wet. I have some in the garage drying out right now. I love this little stove. Grub's on even if there is no power.

    Great video on how to use both the rocket stove and solar oven! I love that you break things down without assuming ppl know how to do these things and let us evaluate if we are interested in buying one or not. Thank-you for being real and don't let the negative ppl bother you because I enjoyed seeing how it worked!

    I love your videos! I've watched this chicken and dumpling video a few times. What interest me in addition to the C&D's is the outdoor kitchen set up that you have going on. It looks like to have a couple of old mircowaves (?) or some type of ovens with hay under them. How about doing a video on your outdoor kitchen...... or have you done one already and I've overlooked it?? Love, love, love your videos!!!

    we've only had our house for 6 mos so we're at the beginning of the road you're on but I shared some of your videos with my guy. He hadn't commented much until today coming back from a long "get out of the house drive" where apparently he was searching rural dump sites for an old stove so he can do what you did in your outdoor kitchen :) Cheers!

    My husband loves his rocket stove, he uses more than the propane BBQ by putting an old cast iron BBQ grate on top. It doesn't have that much of a grill surface, maybe a foot and a half square, but for 2 people, that is all we need. Yeah have used a pot or a pan on it to. And if needed I guess I could make some damn good coffee with my camping percolator. Years ago John there was this set of cast aluminum pots n pans called Guardian Service. They had this really nifty set that was 3 triangle pots that sat on top of a pot ring to hold them. They were so you could cook 3 different things on the same burner at the same time. Some people say that those pots n pans gave people alzheimers, but there are people that collect them and say it is not true. Anyway wouldn't it be cool if somebody made a set of those in stainless. Be a great thing to use on a rocket stove. I have a few pieces of that Guardian Service stuff, but I don't use them and have one of the triangle pots also.

    Great video i have the silverfire survivor also and i havr stovetecs latest model its not like yours it is a single door that is Much much more like the silverfire with a few exceptions it is lite weight at only 9-Lbs all the specs on the silverfire are really close to the new Sasquatch Stove tec with a few exceptions the survivor is a very nice rocket stove and gets hot than stove tecs sasquatch as the sasquatch does Not have the gasifiyer holes but i bought the new stove tec at my local sporting goods for $40.00 so it is a lot cheaper the combustion chamber is all metal No more heavy clay like they used to use both the Sasquatch and the surefire survivor use Rock wool insulation now to make them lite weight it has a air gap under the fuel tray

  • @MrCanofpeas
    @MrCanofpeas 9 лет назад

    Howdy John
    Looks to me like the solar oven would work better with the full shiny side were placed to the inside not the outside, and I'd guess some insulation around the box would help. I'm not a fan of solar cooking (except parabolic design) I think wood cooking allows more temp flexibility and will still cook on a cloudy rainy day.

      OldProudVeteran You got the right idea..I had to chime into your comment. We live off the grid and I use many different modes of cooking from my dutch over, to open grill to my woodcookstove. A rocket stove is EASY to make...don't buy one!! And a solar oven too is doable. If you comes up with a good design let us know...I would be interested in seeing it!! Good luck and God Bless (p.s if you are a veteran I salute you and thank you for your service!

    jnull, please check out some youtube videos on cooking with fresnel lenses. The can be salvaged for free from flat screen tvs that are discarded and simple frames can be made. Cooking time is seconds to minutes, frying, baking, searing, etc. It's completely solar powered and definitely NOT slow cooking but very effective. I believe it could solve a lot of energy problems including applications for your heater exchange without using wood to burn. If anyone could know how to set up something, it would be you.

    Doesn't look as though the solar oven exists anymore--a similar product is over $300. I'm certain I can build one out of 1/4" steel plate if I knew the dimensions of yours--I realize the pyrex lid would be a challenge, but knowing the dimensions I was working to would enable me to find a lid first, then tailor the shape and volume in cubic inches of the oven to match the lid. Thanks, bud!

    • @StarryHilder
      @StarryHilder 9 лет назад

      Leonard Urban Hey if you find a design share it. The solar ovens I have seen handmade are doable. We don't use one here on our off grid home since I do a lot of dutch oven cooking in the summer and eat fresh from my garden. Our meat we just get from my pantry that we canned from the bear and whitetail we hunt. But a solar oven might be nice to have. The rocket stove my husband has made several....free...we try to recycle and use whatever we can that's free... FREE is good! Good luck and God bless
