I'm glad he didn't put metal in the microwave again.
Seriously though, incredibly informative video! Watching this process has convinced me that I am also going to pay a professional to do this.

LOL how many microwaves has he been through? 😅
Glad it was helpful! Yes some things are best done by or at least learned from the pros!

Great Video! I had no idea hardline4x4 was so close to me I'll have to check them out for my next gearing project. And BTW I think that segment about installing the TORQ locker is great! That audio is ON POINT!

Hopefully next year I’ll be regearing my non rubicon axles. I still need to get all my new brackets and reinforcements welded on and setup for instal

The TORQ locker is really nice in my rear axle. It’s the noisiest TL I’ve experienced but I’m not complaining at all. It functions flawlessly. My 8.25 TL would occasionally bang into the locked position which was always unsettling to bystanders haha. This one just sounds like the price is right and I love seeing peoples puzzled looks when I whip it into a parking spot or gas pump.

John, question about your setup (and i apologize if its been answered): how do you like the TDI, AX15, 4.88 gears and 35 inch tires? I'm planning a TDI comanche build, which was inspired by your TDI swap videos over on the BleepinJeep channel. Does your setup crawl slow enough for you, and are you also able to cruise on the highway reasonably?

When I had 33's and 4.10's it was spot on perfect. To be totally honest, I don't feel like this is quite as dialed in. I can't imagine 4.56 gears would be the answer though. I want to try some different tires to see how that affects things. When I went from BFG KO2 285/70R17 to Patagonia MT 33x11.50 (basically same tire size) it was a bit taller tire, and heavier so it wasn't quite as peppy after that change but it was still great. I hit 3000 RPM in 5th gear around 75 MPH now, which isn't bad but it's just a touch higher than I'd like. Down shifting to 4th means I'm basically hitting 3000 RPM around 65 MPH which really feels like you're screaming. Generally speaking though, road driving 1st through 4th feels really peppy and perfect. On the trail, I don't feel like I need 4 low as much on green trails and rugged roads unless I'm starting and stopping a lot. With my doubler, my 1st gear double low crawl ration is 135:1 now so it's really nice!
