I ended up selling the coaches I got with the Loco. I got £18 for those bringing my investment in the Brittannia down to £25 and a clean. I've still got it so far!

Brilliant!!! How you can work on something that small, to get it running as well as that amazes me (who struggles changing a halogen light!). I really am a hopeless case!!
I particularly enjoyed "there's the commutator and as you can see, it's not spotless"!!! I have to tell you, I struggled to see the commutator, in the first place!!!! You really are a clever bugger, aren't you??? As for "that was fun, cleaning all those wheels!" I clearly am watching from a parallel universe, and yet...when that engine runs, it's fabulous!!! As for how you do all this while filming, that's amazing!!!

How do I work on something so small? Bloody big reading glasses and a giant magifying glass! One of my first jobs was working in a telephone exchange on electro mechanical switches. Things that got filthy from arcing and dust and shaking themselves to bits at times. I'm very used to cleaning and lubing and knowing that dirt is not the friend on low voltage dc. Having said that, the bus bars carrying the main current at 50v dc could turn a large spanner into liquid metal in a milli second.
How do I do it while filming? Sit in a chair with legs at quarter to 3, stick the tripod in between and bend it over to face downwards. Now try explaining what you are doing looking through the back of the phone or camera. I must sort it out so I can have it opposite me before I do myself some harm!

@@ngaugeonashelf4417 that's a wonderful reply, and, if I understood more than 20 words of it, I'd be amazed! As I said, I have trouble changing a halogen bulb - truth, no exaggeration! I find it absolutely fascinating how you work on something half the size of your little fingernail!!!! Give me a crowd of 250 people and I'll keep them awake, and amuse them, but this...........!!!! Did I say extraordinary?????

Hi Simon, well done thats a tricky thing to do without have to think about filming it, the result was perfect.
The lights do look great on the layout.
No sign of Ron and your beard has grown back if you ask me the pair of you are doing too much time traveling!!
Have a great end of week ......... I would say Poets day but when your working from home there is no where to p**s off early to!!

Some of these videos arte a bit old. I did spot Ron in the background standing on Bluebell station. He is urging me to get it finished this week. The clubs have been hung up for a little while so I can press on.
What am I doing friday? I think I'm back to editing a golf video after work. Talking of which there is a video on the lighting, it might even be next. Cheers

Hello Simon 🖐 That was very well done 👏👏👏 certainly takes the fear factor out of getting stuck in with the cleaning 👍 You could try a little rub with some T Cut to remove that scratch 🤔 Very best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘

Hi Paul, got to clean it up to make it work. I've gone through a few now that don't run and put them back on ebay. All they needed was a clean. 12v dc doesn't flow very well through dirt.

Hi Simon! great servicing video! I do like the Minitrix yes they may not be up to todays detailing standard, but they are certainly good locos that can really pull which can be said more than some of todays locos. How are the traction tyres on the loco? these often need looking at, as they can go very hard after being 40 years old. keep up the good work! All the best Tony.

    • @ngaugeonashelf4417

Hi Tony, I find they are quite robust and despite them not being accurate models they still look good. I've bought a couple of Dapols and they have great detail but are very fragile, I'm selling them now. The other thing is I can still get spares. Minitrix have been lazy so the 4-6-2 chassis is still being used. Traction tyres aren't a problem. Even brushes for the motors are available. The only thing not available is the bodies.
Fortunately ebay has a constant supply of locos and you can make one good one out of 2 broken ones. I seem to find quite a few non runners that just need a decent clean. I turn them around and make some money on them which pays for bits for the layout.
      Cheers

Brilliant Simon, didn't it run well, loved the layout with the lights on. How much more of the layout is still to be built. Ron

Just under half now Ron. I'm having a push this week and the clubs are gathering dust. Then I must make some more videos and open the first staion. I just need some ribbon to cut.

@@stevenparsons4076 The valve gear is held to the wheels by push in pins. You need a tiny pair of needle nose pliars to get those out. I small screwdriver will help with stretching the new traction tyre over the wheel.
Take the body off and rotate the motor by hand to get the pin in the right place. Pull the pin. The rear one is easy to do so do that first for practice. The tyre should come off easy with your little screw driver. I get the tyre on the bottom of the wheel first and plant my thumb there to keep it in place then it's stretching the tyre round the wheel with the screw driver. It will want to twist. Get it seated in the groove and get the pin back in but not too tight. You want a fair amount of movement.
The front is much harder. Rotate it, get the pin out and then take your time. It will take time but you can get it on behind the valve gear with care and a number of 4 letter words. It will take a few goes before you get it on correctly. Pop the pin back in, again not tight. Make sure the rods move freely and if anything is bent you can give it tiny tweaks.
