Gary, Wondered what the (insulating tape) thickness is and if you had tried different thicknesses or materials and what effect it had on capacitance and bandwidth tuning capability? How about the dimensions of the plates??? Thanks for giving me another project ! ...Rich N3JLR

The tape is .008 thick if the tape is too thick the lesser the compassionate son I went with 8,000 stick that way gives me a full range the capacitors should measure anywhere from 12 to 240 picofarads

That's a great idea for the tuning capacitor Gary... Thanks for sharing...

Hi Gary. Greetings from the UK. Weather here raining so I have been playing around with my mag loop antenna. I like the Xmas light indicator and also the meter. So going to make one myself. Cheers from old George in the UK 🇬🇧 you may like my antenna. Made from car brake pipe. 😂

Hi....the idea is simply basic, but the realization and craftsman is excellent. Thanks for the idea, very helpful.

Question? Can I do this with a roll of duct tape, a pair of channel locks, and a can of WD-40? Clint says, any man worth his salt, can fix anything with those three items!
Seriously though, I thoroughly enjoyed your video and will be doing this little project ASAP!
P.S. You probably just saved me a $1,000.00

Many thanks for your wonderful video. You have satisfied my curiosity as my little Sinclair Micromatic AM matchbox radio has a small postage stamp / compression tuning capacitor in it and I was wondering if one would work if up-scaled. Obviously it does!
I made a magnetic loop antenna for CB radio and made a tuning capacitor from very thin aluminium sheet and fabricated vanes separated by nuts on long bolts. It works ok but your method is simpler and more robust and neater.

Gary, this is a keeper, and I'm nominating you for the 'HAM Inventer Of The Year' award!
I've always been interested in Transmitting Loops and built one many years ago with little success because I only had a small value cap with no gear reduction. I now know that I also had lots of RF feedback on my Coax each time I hit the key. I wasn't too smart back then. Oh well.
Your cap design is an exorcize in simplicity and reliability, and I'll start building one in a few days after I replace the battery in my SUV.
I will also build your Field Strength Meter as soon as I see your post on it. I thought you were going to use it to tune the loop, but you fooled me. Hi Hi.....

    Great design Gary,
Have you tried higher power ?
Looks like it might handle 25 - 50 watts.
    Keep on inspiring us !
    Cheers

I put 35 watts to it SSB done fine but I tried AM mode and it did arc but then I put glass tape between the plates then I had no arcing.
