These judges know nothing. This is just one instance of proof of that. This was a vocally flawless. Syesha is a professional - she has amazing tone, pitch, and gives great face throughout all of her performances.
Wow. I remember watching this and loving her voice. I was convinced the producers wanted a 'battle of the Davids' that season, so she kinda got beat down by the panel every night.
Seriously, David Cook turned every song into the same arrangement, musically and vocally, every week and got praised for his “originality”. David Archelta sang nice and flashed his smile and was deemed a vocal heavyweight. Syesha never hit a note wrong the entire competition and got critiques for problems that weren’t even there. The bullshit was real that season.

i firmly believe tamyra gray helped write this song for fantasia, therefore it is fantasias song til the end of the world, howwever, she did very well.
I complete agree with what you said. She did sing the song good but Fantasia has this emotions in her voice that is unbelievable and it set her aside from a lot of artist even today. Fantasia has a fullness in her voice and raspiness that completes this song that it's hard to find.

I love Syesha, and even though I was on the David Cook train at the time, I was pissed off at the judges for hurting Syesha's chances of winning. They clearly wanted a David vs David ending. Paula seemed uncomfortable with manipulating the show, but she still did as told.
I don't see why they had to tear her to shreads on this performance. Sure it isn't as great as the original, but at the same time no "cover" ever is (usually), but this was a great vocal.
The judges need to remember that this is a singing competition NOT a comparison contest! Syesha did an awesome job on this and I loved it better than Fantasia!
ugh, Syesha is one of the best Vocalists to ever come on this show, Idk what Randy and Simon wanted from her, her singing every week was flawless and she totally put her own spin on the songs she did with the melodies, She is hands down more refined and powerful a singer than anyone on the show this year.

The judges were so harsh to syesha they like never really gave her a break, and she was flawless like every performance. as far as the technical aspect goes, I thought this was way better than fantasia, and the "emotion" it lacked might be attributited to the fact that Fantasia was in the finale at the time which obviously is going to be loaded with emotion due to the nature of a finale. If you compare the vocals of the two, Syesha's was way better.

I understand exactly what the judges are saying. I like that she made it her own but her version lacks in comparison to Tasia's. I see everyon in the comments are talking about the night she won but what about the night before when she ripped it. What about when she sang this while the Obama's were in the audience (watch the performance on youtube) what about her singing it on Leno and back at the Idol again for season 4? She carries the emotion and depth period not just on the night she won. Stop playing with Fantasia she plays with her notes while being calm and still brings the emo. So I guess at the end of the day its about personal preference and there's nothing wrong with that.
