Zone 6b here. Tomato jungle and Florida weave. The weave saved my Roma Tomato plants this year. Those plants are finished w. good yield. Putting in fall seeds there now. What ever we get we are grateful. We've been fertilizing as you do but started using ash with all the rest. Great teaching videos Jacques. Thank you.
This is so helpful. I lived on a family owned farm for 6 years (it's still there but I moved states again when I was 14), it's where my love started, and the only fertilizer we ever used was the cow pies with the manure spreader (this thing is so cool). I’m also a big fan of AgroThrive. Been using it for a couple years also in conjunction with Espoma fertilizers and it really makes your plants pop when it’s applied. My raised beds especially seem to love it. I use synthetic fertilizer when growing out seedlings though to get them as big as possible and once in the garden it’s all organic.
Organic fertilizer is slow release, that is good. It also contains salts, so it is not salt free. In an organic garden that is at least 3 years old, it is as good as synthetic fertilizer in terms of getting plant yields. However, in a virgin garden,or a new bed that is not established there may not be enough native fertility or biota to convert the organic fertilizer into a form the plants need on time. Organic fertilizer depends on temperature. When it is cold, the soil organisms slow down. It is not a problem if you don't plant in the cooler months. When you have a new garden without much native fertility or a large soil web, organic fertilizer may not be able to provide enough nutrients when the plants need it. Organic gardens usually require more supplementation than conventional. There are also slow nitrogen conventional fertilizers that release over time. I agree that where nitrogen is concerned slow release is good, but with the option to give a quick boost when the the plants need it. Like when seedlings are actively growing.

You say that your fruiting plants need a higher phosphorous and potassium mix. Yet the fertilizers you're using are a 3-4-6 and a 5-5-3, which overall together seem like a pretty balanced mix, not high P or high K. Am I missing something? Thanks!
Jacques how do you keep your pups from sniffing up all the fertilizer. My Doberman Sheppard sticks her big snoot in all my caged tomato’s. She comes through like King Kong. Is there any deterrent you use for your dogs ?

I have land in Mexico, we use this very important fertilizers that come in pellet form. In Spanish it's called, abono. It's okay because these fertilizers are minerals derived from earth.
Great tips Jacques! Btw, do you wash and sterilize your seedling pots when they are empty, or just rinse them out? I really hate having to wash everything.
Look at the back of the ingredients list of all bags of fertilizers. Buy all ingredients separately, you'll be surprised how easy it is to buy and make your own fertilizer. Look up fertilizer ratios 😊
Hello! Thank you for all the great information! A question I have and have asked if 2 other gardening utube channels and have not gotten any answer is, I am gardening in all grow bags. I have a 2 - 3 inch layer of straw mulch. When I want to add more granular fertilizer, do I need to remove the mulch first or can I just add on top of the mulch and when I water, it will still get to the plant with the water?? I think it depends on how you water. If you have the containers on drip irrigation, you're doing to want to move the mulch and put the granular fert directly on top of the soil spread out near the drip emitters. If you're using a hose or can or whatever and are watering the top of the straw, putting the fert on top is fine. I would kind of mix it around a bit with my hand, though, so there isn't a bunch of fert sitting on top of the straw that can be blown away by the wind. :-)
@@floweringevergreen3584 when I first put it in, that's about how much it was, but after lots of watering by the house, it's tamps down to a lot less. Grow bags can dry out so quickly, so I started with that amount.
I'm curious to know if Jacques would say the soil layer shown in the organic solid fertilizer section was dryer than it normally would be? I was somewhat shocked at how dry it looked, even though I realize it's probably a sandy layer.

Love your videos, and this one is a huge help! Does it matter what time of day to fertilize? I have seen some folks saying that here in central Texas (9B) we shouldn't fertilize in the heat of the day because it stresses plants. Also, how the heck do you keep track of what's been fertilized and what hasn't? Or do you just not worry about over-fertilizing? I was about to fertilize my containers for the month but just saw we have 10 days of storms predicted, so I was wondering if maybe I should fertilize lightly with some granular stuff that won't wash away, and save the liquid for next week. I know y'all don't get a ton of rain out there, but would welcome any advice you have! 🤔
I think since it is slow release a granular fertilizer would be fine but if you know its going to a rian a lot definitely avoid it as you will just end up with it mostly washed away and that is bad for the environment! Keeping track is hard, usually it is just sketchy memory haha
Great video again. I see you are using the Flowe and Fruit on everything. Why that versus the General Purpose? I have seen good results through all this heat in Fl. Thanks for sharing
Since I am actively feeding plants that are setting fruits its better to support them with extra Phosphorus and Potassium which the Fruit and Flower increase!

When I first put in a mini pick up truck full of omni mix into the pit garden, my chow rolled in it like it was catnip. I guess you just have to keep them inside or supervised when you first put it in, and water. Good luck.
You are over thinking it and it's a waist of money!!!.I don't buy liquid Fert.,just drop any fertilizer in a bucket of rainwater to dilute and use residual for a quick liq. feeding and that's any fert., I choose!!
Talk to Kevin. Need to know why y'all don't find something adaptive....tomatoes extremely adaptive. Doubling up your mix kills the environment your plants grow in. I would like to show you not tell you and Kevin how really world compost becomes. Not a mixed fertile dirt. A shit storm that becomes your mixture for your dirt.
Would love the opportunity to teach you both your plants don't adapt to you they follow your training to watering. However y'all have a primitive look at the reality of fertilizer and what you might use instead

AgroThrive is great! Also, weekly Mykos during vegetative and pre-flower makes super healthy plants.

liquid fertiliser should be applied at ground level, not over the leaves. & yes, pre-watering the garden helps to prevent burn.

What is the shelf life of worm castings and how do you store them?

Hi Jacques, Do you generally use 15g bags for peppers?
I use 10 gallon for peppers and 15 for tomatoes.
I feel like 10 is plenty for peppers!
