How to get to Montserrat Mountain | Daytrip from Barcelona

Step 1: take train R5 from Espanya station in Barcelona
Step 2: stop at Aeri to take the cable cars or stop at Monistrol to take the train (Cremallera to go up)
When you're visiting Barcelona it's an absolute must to pay a visit to the Montserrat mountain range as well. It's just 45 minutes on train from the Barça center.
At Montserrat, which literally translates into sawtooth mountain, you can find the Benedictine Abbey Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat.

Montserrat is so beautiful! I took a hiking trip up to Sant Jeroni (top of the mountain) - the view is amazing! For the hiking trip you need 5 hours - just for the walk (up and down).

Awesome shots. I will be in Barcelona this Friday (03/01) and then heading to Madrid on March 6th. Coming from New Jersey and very excited to see Spain. Going to try and convince my friends to make this trip to Montserrat. How cold was it on the mountain?

Haha you're pretty close! I would highly advise you to visit Montserrat, it was one of my highlights from Barcelona. It was a bit colder than in Barcelona for example, probably around 5°C about a month ago, so now I would guess maybe around 10°C. Not sure though. If you hike up you will get warm easily 😃

Glad you enjoyed it! If you want to walk from all the way down the mountain it is pretty steep, yes. I would advice to take one of the two cable car options. Do know that you need to decide which of the two you want to use in Barcelona centre already. Enjoy your trip!
