Thank you so much my trip "finally" this year will be Greece. I will try to hit all the islands since I have planned to be there for 30 days. Thanks again for your fantastic vlogs 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Hello Dennis:))) I'm a new subscriber to your channel but have been viewing your travel videos for a number of years . I love them because they give a real sense of the places you cover. I do have a travel suggestion for you -- how about the beautiful french town of HYERES (between Nice and Marseilles)? We have family there and it is a gem of a place to visit.
@@denniscallan Oh, cool! There are so many surrounding beaches, island, there is the old town, there is the port, loads of palm trees, it is clean and peaceful, and the weather - hot in summer, mild in the winter, alive all year round - a lovely place... there is also Le Lavandou not far away and Bormes les Mimosas (although these two are dead in the wintertime)... .
Hello, think on your right hand is your gun, maybe a sword and on the left hand is the shield. The right side of your body not protected when you enter from a gate, so from the other side opposite, the knights has an unprotected body then hit you. Thats mean they turn your body every time to the unprotected part for them to hit you when you enter. They know to use the body. It was Doctors, Monks, Knights. Cheers from a local. ( if you see and all the other castles outdoor you cry ... ) ;)
12:00 Dear Sir, What you mentioned here is incorrect information. The siege did not last 2 years. It officially began on July 25, 1522, when Sultan Süleyman set foot on the island and ended on December 21, 1522, with the agreement signed with the Grand Master. According to the agreement, the knights and those who wished to leave the island had to do so within 10 days. The Grand Master and his followers left the island on January 1, 1523. So, the siege lasted about 6 months. The Ottomans had more than 100,000 soldiers, with estimates suggesting around 150,000 when including those who arrived by sea and land. The order had around 6,000 soldiers, not 2,000, and about 1,000 of them were knights, though 600-700 might be a closer estimate. The Rhodes fortress was one of the most fortified castles in the World in the early 16th century. The Turks suffered heavy losses, but such a fortress could not have been taken any other way. And the conquest was necessary because the knights had turned the Eastern Mediterranean into a center for piracy. Additionally the cries of the more than 3,000 Turkish prisoners held in the fortress could not be ignored.
good
This is still an absolutely phenomenal structure. Great video mate.

I just looked up HYERES and am very impressed -- three concentric old walls around it, and various islands nearby, and Old Town. It's now on my list.

Do you recommend a tour or can you walk around from the ships into the city and the castle of the grandmaster?
It is easy to see on your own, but you do need a map and a plan.

Has anyone else noticed that the fort is in the shape of an elephant? It's interesting.
