That priorities thing is honestly kind of terrible advice to give a teenager.

While I agree with you, it's just how life works. I fought it until about 25yo. I used to be idealistic too, until the adult world beat it out of me. You can remain a child at heart (Lord knows I have), but everyone's got to grow up sometime. You fight the bronco long enough, he'll eventually throw you. (I'm jk. I grew up in Las Vegas, and know nothing about wild animals. lol) However, being closer to 40yo than 30yo, I do know that while it's terrible advice, it's honest advice.

@@kjrey9878 I don’t know that it’s about idealism. “Find out what’s important and push everything else aside” implies that you can trust yourself to make that determination and that it will never change. It makes no allowance for the fact that people and their priorities change as they grow older. I’m not saying that everybody should follow every dream, but you shouldn’t be so committed to one path in life that it seals off all others because that’s how you end up bitter and angry.

@@joemcguire9988 Wait, that's what you got from that? I was talking about how critical it is to prioritize what's really important to you. It's easy for anyone to get sidetracked by what they "want", but prioritizing what you feel is important in life takes real introspection into who you are. While it may be bad to tell a teenager to push everything and everyone away, I don't think it's bad to tell anyone to look inside themselves and to find what they believe in their heart is important, regardless what age they are.
I'll admit, after re-reading it, I came on a little too strong with my reply. My bad.
