"Hosting a $1 Million Dollar Tournament Was a Big Mistake!" It was not a big mistake, and let me tell you why: Quake isn't generating any money since Quake 3 Arena, even the expension pack wasn't succesful (Team Arena). Any money id/Zenimax (and now Microsoft) threw at Quake was never with the solid intention of making a profit. Quake is very particular in the video game industry. If it had to make money there would have been no update after the very unsuccesful early acces/full release. Thruth is nobody can tell what would have happened if they hadn't had a 1 million tourney, maybe the game would have been even less popular. In any ways, nothings lasts forever, enjoy it while it last.
@@dariusus9870I don't understand the argument. If the game isn't making any profit, then how making such a big price event makes any sense? Moreso if the game was so under developed by then.
@@nemes1s_HL 1 million wouldn't change much in the development. You think that by paying the same incompetents more money would somehow make the game better?. Syncerror is proof that no amount of money will give him brains. 1 million would definitely mean a lot to boost a game. That being said, things, in hindsight, could have been done much better. Nobody except William Gates predicted the pandemic or could have predicted the future. It could have been a major success but paying the same old disinterested goons didn't help. Id f-ed it up. If quake 6 will come out then it was an investment in public. If nothing happens to quake anymore, sure, you can speculate and say that it was a bad move but a mistake? A mistake was not hosting any quakecon tournament, no single player mode for new players, extremely bad communication, adam pyle, releasing a game full of bugs, unbalances, bad marketing, adam pyle, tim willits, banning Russian and Belarusian players, no tutorials, not releasing the game as free, not banning cheaters, Bethesda support, adam pyle and many more.
@@dariusus9870I get your point and I agree. But one big problem with quake champions was that it was buggy as hell for years. So hosting such a big event only lead to an even bigger disappointment when people wanted to play it. It simply was bad. Of course, quake and arena fps aren't popular nowadays, but it doesn't change the fact that if you release a turd under the Quake tab with bells and whistles, you are going to get awful feedback from day zero
Holy fuck

That money would have been better expent on developing the game better
Completely agree! These hindsight opinions are so silly.
