Might be a weird tip, but my favorite tip for no matter what type of travel. I ALWAYS clean my house the day before I leave. I don't straighten up I CLEAN! (the cleaning is not too painful cause my house is already clean) Kitchen, bathrooms, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, change beds, and more. Yes its a lot sometimes I stretch it to two days. Its the best feeling in the world when you come home and the house is pretty and clean. All you have to do is dump the suit cases at the washing machine and bam your done!
Omgosh yeees, My fiancée had the idea, & I wasn't happy about it, but when we got home we got to relax and it was wonderful, I'm so glad that we did it before we left, I will plan to do it every time now!!!😀
Having a person on board a cruise with a disability is such a good opportunity to chat with them and get to know them. It is an especially good time to teach kids how to converse with shipmates. Parents might give children a few sentences to start a conversation like "Hello. It's nice to have you on the cruise. Maybe we'll see each other in the swimming pool." It's nice to get kids comfortable talking to anyone. It's also good for parents to let them know what NOT to say. I hope Emmy Lou had a great cruise and will go again and again. Sheri, thanks for introducing this conversation.
Make sure to clean out the refrigerator of all perishable foods which would go bad while you are gone. Nothing like coming home to a drawer full of moldy fruits and vegetables.
For pre-cruise planning, I have a 3-ring binder with separate folders for each aspect of the trip, namely hotel reservations, cruise confirmations and documents, excursion confirmations, and fun shop purchases that I have done ahead of time. I also put a picture of the cruise ship (along with date) on the front of the binder.
Someone with a stump in the pool or anywhere may cause me to look twice - but I’d feel compassion/how can I help/wow she’s absolutely fierce(!). The idea that it’s scary or not clean or anything that imposes on ME is not at all on the radar. Not a problem on me in any way. But ask for help if you need anything!!
I know this is almost 2 years old but one tip I learned the hard way. Being a native Floridian, we were spoiled having year-round summer clothing that we owned and in stores. After relocating to a colder climate, didn’t realize that you can’t by summer clothing all the time for a warm climate cruise, ie swimsuits, flip flops, tanks, shorts, beach bag when the season is over! So if you have a cruise booked way ahead of time, this is something to think about. After August there will be slim pickings of summer items in retail stores, and nothing to choose from in colder months. Having said that, late August will have great sales on summer items!
Hi Sherri. When putting things in packing cubes early make sure you mark them on your list as to which packing cube or box they are in. Saves the headache. Also the night before, women can put their purse right by the charger port. Put your phone down in your purse. It will help you remember your charger. Take a picture of all your medication bottles and pills. It will help if security has any questions. Thanks for all you do
I wish I could have been at this one but it's difficult for me on a Sat. anywho..After I book a cruise, I start packing mentally. 45 days out I'm throwing items on the bed that I think I want to take. Three weeks out, I'm packed..and suitcase closed :-) I'm going on a mother/ daughter cruise on the carnival conquest Aug. 26..Yea!
I put a box in my house to place cruise items in. As I purchase items I put them in the box til I'm ready to start putting things together. As I place things in the box, I put a check mark next to it on my list so I can keep up with what I have already purchased.
For the people who asked about bringing power strips onboard, here is Princess' policy. I am sure other lines have similar policies due to the electrical system on ships is different than on land. --*Electrical devices such as small fans, power strips, multi plug box outlets/adaptors, and extension cords without surge protectors are allowed onboard when used with proper caution. However, if such devices are determined to pose a hazard they will be removed and returned the last day of the cruise prior to debark.
Just returned from our first cruise and getting more tips for our next one. I had RX and RX sunglasses, but I like the idea of bringing an old pair for excursions and as a back up. Will remember that for the next one. Thanks.
JMO, for Emmy. I think people will be kind and accommodating. If they are not it is because they may be concerned about offending. I would bet my bottom dollar that no one will be weird about the pool or her clothing. If people would look a moment longer it will be out of curiosity because it is unusual not scary or offensive. I think most people are loving and want to be helpful. If you need them in any way please realize it would be their blessing to help or accommodate you and do not rob them of that blessing. Enjoy that cruise! xxoo
I've never been on a cruise so I've watched almost all of your videos on both channels! I'm so glad i found these channel's. Were going on Norwegian cruise line, but these tips still help! Thank you!
Your credit card company may need to be notified you will be out of area or they may deny the card because it's being used out of your usual charging area.
I love watching your videos. I wish we could cruise more often. Our last was in April 2014 and our next is June 2018. We are sailing on the Glory and I'm super excited. We are celebrating my son's graduating from high school. I am already preparing by purchasing things I know I'll need and packing them away. This way I can budget my money and not feel like I'm spending a lot of money close to cruise time.
For the question at 36:40. British travellers do not require a visa for any of the major Caribbean islands, except US territories. With Cuba entry is permitted via a generic tourist visa. You need to get this from the Cuban embassy in London. Thankfully it's far more lax than for US citizens. If travelling via or entering the US and it's territories you'll need an ESTA. make sure you get this in advance, as if rejected you need to apply for a tourist visa instead.
Once again, a happy day to you Sherri. I keep a clipboard with items to check off. I don't require such extensive planning because I rarely have more than 4 days between the day I buy the cruise and the day the boat sails. Does anyone else here try their luck with a GTY cabin?
I have not gone on a cruise, yet, but before a long trip, aside from cleaning the house, we make sure to empty out the fridge of any food that has an expiration date and empty out the trash.
Wanted to say thank you for the sample wall mount itinerary. Love it! I already saved it, changed it and printed it for our Feb 14 B2B cruise. You are amazing and I enjoy all that you do. Thanks again!
Hi Sheri, absolutely LOVED this video! I was OOT longer than expected so I missed the live stream. You did a great job! Your idea was right on....... I wanted to say that last March we had 3 nights at hotels prior to the cruise, and it was REALLY helpful to pack those nights (along with the 2 nights post cruise that we did) in separate suitcases. We drove to port, and that way we could leave the hotel suitcase in the car til we returned and clothes were still clean and ready to use and we weren't lugging all that on the ship with us. Also a tip is to make sure you have a copy of your credit cards because just like your passport they could be stolen or lost and you will need that info to cancel them. Not to be morbid, but we make sure at least one of our kids knows where our important info is, ie will etc, and our cruise /trip itinerary . Thanks for all your info! PS...you were so sweet to Emmy Lou! Love it! :-)
I love using the Zip up Clear Folders you can get everywhere to put my 8x10 schedules and itinerary/documents in. And the Half Sized Clear Documents Folder so you can see what you are fishing for when you go to grab certain paperwork out of them.
So I bullet Journal and I have a special notebook just for Cruise Bullet Journaling. I use this for every Cruise. I add, take away, and use previous notes for future cruises.
I have the same kind of "matrix" that Mike & Cheryl have. I use Google Sheets and I just copy and paste my cruise template to the next cruise and change it up depending on itinerary. We definitely bring a small sewing kit now. We were vacationing in Seaside, OR one year and my husband popped 2 buttons off his shorts. It took us a few stores to find sewing supplies. Ended up paying WAY more than we should have for sewing kit.
If you are driving to the port, check on parking. On a cruise from Vancouver, Canada, we assumed that there would be plenty of parking available. No. We needed a reservation to park. We ended up driving around town until we finally found underground, locked parking at a hotel.
I have 2 plastic document folders that I keep all of my documents in. Inside I have itineraries, receipts, airline, cruise, and hotel documents. I found them at the dollar store in multiple colors.
I live in a state that has very cold snowy winters. I purchase summer items for traveling during the end of summer clearance sales. I always find great deals and I'm able to get enough stuff for several vacations.
Lots of great tips! I will expand on the use a pre paid card for travel(great idea!), and this is my rule in general. NEVER use a debit card, always use a credit card! If your debit card gets lifted, that's linked to your accounts and your $. If it's a credit card, that's the banks money. Also tho my situation is a bit different, I'm constantly traveling, but I keep a separate set of things like phone chargers, back up battery, and a USB hub specifically for travel. I also keep a few different sets of 3-1-1 kits. For one, the products I use don't come really in travel size, and 2, I've kinda customized them for different lengths. Overnight, long weekend, week, 2 weeks etc. Keeping a packing cube of things like underwear ready is also handy. Doing this keeps my packing list simple and I can pack in 15 min if I have to and I won't forget anything. Tho, there is a bonus if I do manage to forget something, that's right SHOPPING!!!
Thank you for all the tips on price changes. I was able to upgrade my room to a Club Class Mini-Suite instead of a Balcony. And, we save $1 by doing it.
Agree on the planning party. We have done that for other vacations and will do for our cruise vacations. Thank you for this information. This is fabulous. I have saved for later. So I could go back for tips.
Vacation budgeting my husband says $200 per day per person. It’s common to spend less (I once spent only $200 on a 5 day trip on food/etc) so that $200 per day is more of a “you won’t exceed this” benchmark
Packing the day before any trip stresses me out. My travel partner does that, so I just prepare for the stress and know we WILL get packed and out the door!
What we do before we fly anywhere (USA or Cruise) is to a dummy run to the airport way your bags. Pick a time when there are not many flights or people are coming or going
Someone mentioned buying a case of water prior to the cruise so it will be delivered to your stateroom. On Carnival, there is a note on the Fun Shop page that the bottled water charge is NON-REFUNDABLE but that it is the SAME PRICE on-board. So wait till you get on board to order your case of water so you don't waste any money if plans change.
90 days out book an asl interpreter if needed. as well as 60 days out a hearing room kit. My mom need the hearing room kit bein hard of hearing. I know Royal Caribbean has both not sure of other lines.
gategirl2262 and confirm 60 days out, called to be sure we have an asl interpreter for two ppl in our group (originally requested when those guests booked) and the travel agent completely forgot - luckily he has 60 days to get it together
First, I hope you feel better soon, especially before your cruise. My tip is about food allergies and medication in general. I would recommend making sure all your medication is up to date at least 30 days before embarkation day. Before our last cruise, I was so busy I forgot to request new Epi-pens, which requires a doctor's approval to refill, until three days before embarkation day. Thankfully, my allergist had just came off his own vacation and approved my refill ASAP. While on the subject of allergies, inform the cruise line 30 to 60 days before embarkation day if you have any severe allergies. Since I have severe allergies (hence the Epi-pen), I tell them what food allergies I have and that I carry an Epi-pen. If you have food allergies, get allergy cards made to give your server.
Some cruises will offer air as part of the cruise for example Oceania has prices with and with out airfare. most ppl chose to have air and cruise fares combined since they are cheeper.
@CruiseTipsTV. Those passport holders...you mentioned holding one dollar bills. How many is a safe bet to have before you go? I assume they are for tipping porter but if we prepay gratuities does that mean we dont have to tip anyone?
Just booked another cruise in April 15, 2018 birthday cruise. pre pack early to see what i might be missing and make a note to yourself and stick it (tape) to my luggage to remind me later to make sure i put in my luggage. So don’t forget your dry cleaning too , make sure your suits and dresses are ready to go....
CruiseTipsTV Thanks I love TJMAX, I think I just bought them out (lol) ..... i got my luggage and travel bags, passport holder, and the zipper travel bags to hold my toiletries. And already packed...i know I’m so excited!! I can not stop watching your RUclips channel just in case i don’t missing anything, I am ready to go.. 😊 where can i get your T-shirt’s?. there are so cute!
Hey! I know you made this Video a while ago but do you happen to have the word doc with the timeline that you were using in the video?? Thanks for the help!!
Hello, I started watching your videos a week ago. I have my first cruise in two weeks so your videos have been very helpful. I wanted to know what exactly are power strips?
Hello Sheri, I just love you channel. Great advice! We are leaving next week on a Princess Cruise and my hubby is determined to bring a water gun. They don’t look like guns but he thinks they would be ok to take, what do you think? Thanks😊
Hey Tracy! it's risky- I wouldn't recommend he take it. it's not specifically stated in the forbidden items policy but I have heard of them being confiscated. www.princess.com/learn/faq_answer/pre_cruise/prepare.jspAll imitation or replica weapons including de-commissioned weapons, those not capable of being fired and realistic imitation/toy weapons.
I love you...☺️ What do you know of honeymoon request for the cabin? We are having ours on Royal Caribbean and I was wondering if you knew if they will decorate it and give us a little special something for our cabin.. My fiance added a special request for honeymoon but I dont know what exactly that will be.
Hi Sheri! Great livestream today. BTW, I started watching Wild Alaska on Netflix. The BBC did a fantastic job. I thought it was going to be like Ice Road Truckers or the show on NAT GEO about the people in Alaska living "off the grid"! The scenery and the animals in Wild Alaska are magnificent! The BBC is brilliant!!
I have a cruise coming up this November I get 25 dollars credit for ever port on shore excursions when can I book my shores excursions do I have to wait until I get on the cruise or can I book ahead
We are cruising the triumph in a couple weeks and don't have mini fridge in the room. I am taking a small cooler and was wondering do I have to keep the 12pk of drinks in the case until after boarding or can I put the cans in the cooler so they are easier to lug around when boarding. Thanks for all the great tips! 19 more days 😎😎🛳
As long as they are non alcoholic, I dont' see why you couldn't carry the sodas on in a cooler! I think they just like you to keep them with your embarkation day stuff.
I will be cruising New Zealand/Australia Feb 2018. I am very excited about that. I do have a question however, in addition to the tipping, what are decent gifts to take along for the butler, housekeeping , and additional crew we will be dealing with on a day to day basis? Someone suggested bags of spices.
Yes! Please come to Australia. I often have cruise envy watching your vlog's as the options for destinations and newer vessels is more varied in America :-) But I think Ovation of the Seas will be a game changer for us
I know I'm super late, but do you still have your pre-cruise planning list. I'm going on the Norwegian Bliss in June and I want to make sure I've done everything before I go.
Mr. Cruise tips what's the difference between a surge protector and a power stripe. Carnival doesn't allow surge protector and don't want to buy a powerstripe if I actually have one.
Check Amazon, it will clearly be marked if it has surge protection with an on/off switch.(which you don't want) You want a plain power strip with a couple of usb plugs at the end.
Hi! Really enjoy your videos! How can I sign up for those alerts? Our cruise is in October on the Carnival Pride and can't find it on the website. We're driving to port and those alerts would be helpful.
Your always on point with your tips (viewers too 😀), great ideas. I have to plan ahead for almost all my trips, if not drives me crazy 😜 lol. Luv the pre-party to go over itinerary and pre mani/pedi with the girls b4 trip 👍🏼 THANK YOU!
Great video! Thank you so much. One thing I have a question about, do you convert your money when traveling out of the US? I'm cruising to Cabo and Puerto Vallarta, and am wondering if I should bring pesos. How do you usually pay for things like cabs or water taxis? When you go to Billigans or other restaurants do you use credit, dollars, or pesos? I'm really not sure what to do about the money thing.
Hi Sheri, i was wondering if you have any long sleeve t 👚 for me with you wonderful logos. I want to take one on my cruise in April for my birthday and rock your logo. I like long sleeve or three quarter sleeve, in a 2 xL, since my surgery i have lost over 100 lbs and my arms are still overwhelming sized and i attend to hide my arms. But i love your shirts and where can i buy them. Thanks. From Santa Maria CA
All you have to do is dump the suit cases at the washing machine and bam your done!
haha sorry I made this comment before I got to the part where you already mentioned it.
TriceBKnowles Me too. I like to get home and relax.
It is so relaxing to come home to a clean house. Put out air fresheners.
Omgosh yeees, My fiancée had the idea, & I wasn't happy about it, but when we got home we got to relax and it was wonderful, I'm so glad that we did it before we left, I will plan to do it every time now!!!😀
Yes! that's the best after a long drive...coming home to a clean house
Having a person on board a cruise with a disability is such a good opportunity to chat with them and get to know them. It is an especially good time to teach kids how to converse with shipmates. Ah, yes!!!!!!!!!!
Laurie Kamp I do the same thing. Then I make a copy of all reservations for each person. I separate the into pre cruise, cruise, post cruise:)
I do the same thing!!!
Laurie Kamp a binder is a great idea thanks...
Besides a mail hold, put a hold on the daily newspaper so they don't pile up outside (and signal you're not home).
Tip-I purchased RFID sleeves for my credit cards and passports when I cruised last to help with identity theft.
Don't forget to take out the garbage before you leave.
I know this is almost 2 years old but one tip I learned the hard way. Being a native Floridian, we were spoiled having year-round summer clothing that we owned and in stores. Take a picture of all your medication bottles and pills. It will help if security has any questions. Thanks for all you do
SO true, especially for forgetful people like me!
I wish I could have been at this one but it's difficult for me on a Sat. anywho..After I book a cruise, I start packing mentally. 45 days out I'm throwing items on the bed that I think I want to take. 4yrs On & Still Some Very Valid Tips...
Thank You...
Take a spare pair of glasses. I use my previous pair. Good enough to get by, plus I use the spare set for active excursions, just in case.
I have prescription sunglasses, and I concur heartily. Backup glasses, and your spares go on vacation!
Mister Medic this is a great tip! I cringe at the thought of something happening to my glasses on a cruise. I'll make sure to pack an extra pair!
I was on a cruise in June 2015 and the first day while unpacking I sat on my RX sunglasses.
You and Mr. Husband dude have such great chemistry I was thinking you guys should do a special episode together!
Your credit card company may need to be notified you will be out of area or they may deny the card because it's being used out of your usual charging area.
lakb45 good advice I call every time. I go anywhere out my State.
I also get travel size from stores like T.J. Maxx and Marshall’s for super high end travel size items for discounted prices!
I love watching your videos. I wish we could cruise more often. Our last was in April 2014 and our next is June 2018. We are sailing on the Glory and I'm super excited. That’s incredible!!!
Agree on the planning party. We have done that for other vacations and will do for our cruise vacations. Thank you for this information. This is fabulous. I have saved for later. So I could go back for tips.
Tip for Emmy Lou... If you are on a Princess cruise and you have a handicapped room, there is a rubber bath mat already available for you to use.
Vacation budgeting my husband says $200 per day per person. It’s common to spend less (I once spent only $200 on a 5 day trip on food/etc) so that $200 per day is more of a “you won’t exceed this” benchmark

NICE!!! Yay!

Thanks for all the info. Sorry I couldn't be on live this week. Thanks to you and your hubby for all you do.
I would say also research if you need a travel visa. Example if you're traveling to cuba
Yes you can pre pay tips on rccl

Before our last cruise, I was so busy I forgot to request new Epi-pens, which requires a doctor's approval to refill, until three days before embarkation day. Thankfully, my allergist had just came off his own vacation and approved my refill ASAP. While on the subject of allergies, inform the cruise line 30 to 60 days before embarkation day if you have any severe allergies. Since I have severe allergies (hence the Epi-pen), I tell them what food allergies I have and that I carry an Epi-pen. If you have food allergies, get allergy cards made to give your server.
GREAT tip!
Some cruises will offer air as part of the cruise for example Oceania has prices with and with out airfare. most ppl chose to have air and cruise fares combined since they are cheeper.
Yes, absolutely. Love those bundled lines.
Your channel is so very helpful!! I've been watching it for hours before my cruise next week 😀 Thanks for all the tips 💕💕💕
We leave in 6 days for our cruise and it'll be our first time cruising with a baby. She's 17 months old. Wish us luck! Lol
+Marcela A you'll do great-'that's a wonderful age!
I would love to see that matrix another mentioned. I am a hopeless OCD person!!
@CruiseTipsTV. Those passport holders...you mentioned holding one dollar bills. How many is a safe bet to have before you go? I assume they are for tipping porter but if we prepay gratuities does that mean we dont have to tip anyone?
If you don't order bottled water or buy bottled water, what are the options?
great livestream Cruisetipstv. please keep them coming. going on my first cruise in October. hello from the Bahamas
Do you have a checklist for pre-cruise task by 90+ days out, 60 days out, 30 days out, 2 weeks out, 1 week out and day of?
It's a week to my cruise on Norwegian star
Just booked another cruise in April 15, 2018 birthday cruise. pre pack early to see what i might be missing and make a note to yourself and stick it (tape) to my luggage to remind me later to make sure i put in my luggage. Hey! I know you made this Video a while ago but do you happen to have the word doc with the timeline that you were using in the video?? Thanks for the help!!
Ugh, I don’t but we’re working on something like
That
This was a great livestream.
I know this is past online, but Im using a clear plastic zip folder to keep all papers, tags so on.
Credit cards already protect you, so you don't need a prepaid card. In fact, they would have more risk.
Can you make a sample itinerary spreedsheet available?
to save on roaming charges take your sim card out of your phone and buy a per-paid sim card
for the country you are in
Thanks for this!! I will refer back to this video often!
I am a planner too. I like to be organized.
Hello, I started watching your videos a week ago. I have my first cruise in two weeks so your videos have been very helpful. I wanted to know what exactly are power strips?
I have 4 months till my first cruise!!
I am going on ovation of the seas leaving from Sydney
Can't wait!!!🤗🤗😃😃
Clarissa Chan-Day omg same
I find making a list for odd and ends I place on spare bed and double check on a couple of days before
Hello Sheri, I just love you channel.
Do you have to take prescription medication in the original bottles
Hi, my mum and I are going on a cruise next year we got a really good deal on it
This was such a fun live stream!!! Thank you Sheri and Mr Cruise tips t.v.
+Jeana Hammack xoxo thanks for being there!
We are going on a cruise next summer June 2 2019 it will be our second Disney Cruise
Great tips. First time cruising thanks for the info.
I am traveling on carnival magic in October of this year.
I start getting my stuff ready when i book pack about a mouth out
RIGHT!? isn't it spectacular????
Hubby needs a mic!
I have a cruise coming up this November I get 25 dollars credit for ever port on shore excursions when can I book my shores excursions do I have to wait until I get on the cruise or can I book ahead
6 months ahead for a good pet sitter! Seriously, I have an outstanding pet/house sitter, but I have to book him at least 6 months in advance.
Missed the live stream...but now im gonna watch it
We are cruising the triumph in a couple weeks and don't have mini fridge in the room.
Also make sure you put a hold on your newspaper!
Great livestream! I enjoyed it so much I watched a few extra oldies for fun💁🏼💗.
Totally bummed I missed the Live Stream, glad I can catch up with the replay.
Next time!
Would you ever consider doing a cruise to Australia or a cruise around Australia/ New Zealand?
Yes! Too pricey and far for now, but yes.
I often have cruise envy watching your vlog's as the options for destinations and newer vessels is more varied in America :-) But I think Ovation of the Seas will be a game changer for us
Great tips! Thanks for sharing guys!
I know I'm super late, but do you still have your pre-cruise planning list. I'm going on the Norwegian Bliss in June and I want to make sure I've done everything before I go.

Anyone whos first impulse is to run you should encourage them to do so. You dont need that negativity in your life doll!
Emmylou i would love to cruise with you!
Can you bring a box of water bottles?
Mr. Cruise tips what's the difference between a surge protector and a power stripe. Carnival doesn't allow surge protector and don't want to buy a powerstripe if I actually have one.
Check Amazon, it will clearly be marked if it has surge protection with an on/off switch.(which you don't want)
You want a plain power strip with a couple of usb plugs at the end.
Hi! Really enjoy your videos! How can I sign up for those alerts? Our cruise is in October on the Carnival Pride and can't find it on the website. We're driving to port and those alerts would be helpful.
You can call thecruise like with your booking number and ask them to add you to the alerts via email or text.
+tmjd79 we pay with a cc and use USD! I never convert!
Thanks!
Wonderful informative video. Thank you!
Yes, of course my friend! I prefer long sleeves too: customize away:
