The silence one is better for the ears, the noisy for the kids. Sometimes the kid stay there in the old body. I like both of them. Nice boat Grandad! ;)
It was interesting to try epoxy to glue it together, but I used too much so there was no flex in the diaphragm to make the popping noise. So it worked fine, but almost silent.
LOL. Don't know why it's not popping but that one is really fast. There is a type of epoxy resin and rubber sealant you can buy that is totally heat proof. I used the epoxy type on a 2 stroke glow engine and it held great. I used he sealant for the bottom and top of a Sterling engine and that worked perfectly too. I really need to get the finger out and try building one of these pop pop boats. :D
I think the glue is covering too much of the surface preventing it flexing. I have studied a few other similar boilers and they fold the top down over the bottom so I will do another some time.
Hello im building one for a science project and at the end of the session my teachers wants us to race our boats, is it possible to put a rudder underneath the exhaust of the engine to make it run straight? and if it is, is it possible for you to make a video about it, Thanks Grandad!!
There really isn't much point in making them significantly bigger, the power does not scale up with the size. There are many different designs in my associated playlist here ruclips.net/p/PLA5a2xPRSrB2M0m754LkqMXQFwFRAS3HK

Thank you
Not bad, I liked how it turns the corners too.

They tend to be so slow that a rudder has little effect. I would suggest two quite large rudders either side, rather than obstructing the exhaust.
It just occurred to me that you may not have seen the links in the video description to my other pop pop boats, including an RC one.
please make a bigger pop pop engine :)
