James, just picking up my pipe band drumming after a 45 year break from my schooldays! Really enjoying your help! Thank you so much for your content. Fantastic!
Just subscribed, loving having found this guy and his channel. If the owner of this channel does read comments I would like to ask a question. In the right hand grip I notice a slight gap in the grip at the front which I haven't seen in your American march snare drummer counterparts technique. I can clearly see and hear that this grip style is not an issue for the execution of what you demonstrate and that it's then not a "inferior" method to the American's more closed grip in the matched grip hand. So what's my question? It's: is their a reason for me ,when teaching my young students , to be strict on such details or to allow the discovery of personal preference especially when this detail is clearly not an hindrance? Another way to ask this is: why do you have this open grip at the front, not closed contact like in the states, and should this be taught a certain way that doesn't impose a rule on the students? An odd question but one I feel compelled to ask as I want to be more aware of what I expecting from my students especially when it's not my own style of execution. Thanks for the uploads where you respond or not. Learning loads myself from your videos, awesome!
Absolutely amazing question! I go into detail on this in one of my technique RUclips tutorials on this channel. Also please join my free Facebook group and ask as many questions as you like: facebook.com/groups/PipeBandDrumming/
Is the the most beginner video you have on paradiddles? My little lad has just started Learning so trying to find the best video for him to practice with at home, unfortunately we dont have a tutor in our area who can teach pipe band drumming so we are going to a drum instructor who plays a drumkit so trying to bridge the gap, im a piper so im not much help to him 😂 any beginner videos you can point me in the direction of would be greatly appreciated
