I played and loved all Tomb Raider games, but Anniversary is still my favourite game in the franchise. Best locations, amazing atmosphere and soundtrack. I agree with you, It's definitely the best starting point for TR newcomers 👌🏻
Legend and Anniversary to me are the definitive ideal of Lara Croft: charming, calculated, globetrotting benefactress. She was genuinely effeminate without being overly sexualized, her stories spanned multiple continents, and she was revered in her legacy. Tomb Raider reboot almost completely abandoned all of Lara’s core themes and it’s hard to see that character connect with a more mature Lara.
Last revelation would be starting point for myself. Decent graphics for a game of its time. Also the first two levels are basically tutorials. Great starting point imo
My 1 favourite game will always be TRIII but I tend to play them in a the following order Tomb raider 2013 Rise of the tomb raider Shadow The last revelation Chronicles Angel of darkness Tomb raider 1996 Tomb raider anniversary Tomb raider 2 Tomb raider 3 Legend Underworld I think I like to start as a young Lara then evolving into an experienced adventurer ❤

This is something I've considered before, and it's a tricky one... It depends on the person, tbh! I think it's between TR1, Legend and 2013... TR1's controls are awful for new players because they're so obtuse and unnecessarily weird even for 1996, Legend is hardly even a TR game; it's basically Prince of Persia with the aesthetic of the Aneglina Jolie films and the survivor trilogy is even more aesthetically different from what is the core of TR (even though the gameplay is more non-linear than LAU)... I dislike Anniversary but I think you might be right... it's a good ENOUGH half-half. Regarding the Angel of darkness disrespect, bro you ENJOYED it when we played it together so I dunno what you're chatting about here! 😂
If you like classic Prince of Persia, you will like the classic TR series. The controls are very similar and it clearly took inspiration from PoP. If you like Uncharted, you will like the survivor TR series. The Legend series is a good middleground.

I loved your recommendation, Bartoli! I'm a long time fan of Tomb Raider, thanks to my uncle, I could have my start with the very first game, and playing in order. A huge problem for newcomers is playing the classics nowadays. Since we don't have a remaster, the Steam versions are missing soundtracks and losing the magic of the series. I'm currently playing the classics on my PlayStation, being on the third one, Area 51 level just after India. I recommend playing the classics on a PlayStation or emulator, because I really don't like the Steam versions, you have to search for patches that give those games the full potential. Yes, I think emulating the games on duckstation is a great experience. It’s hard to play the classic games with those pixelated graphics so duckstation is a great choice as it increases the graphics of the games and like you said the music is ok there (as far as I can remember) thanks for watching, I appreciate you 🙏
I would always say play the original. Then play it again. But for modern gamers, I would maybe recommend just playing the dlc tombs from Shadow. If you play them all in a row, it kind of feels like real Tomb Raider. My brother and I did this and it was the best experience we had with the modern trilogy!
Anniversary is a good choice as it retains some of the dna from the original games. But I don’t consider it a remake as in interviews the developers have said their intent when making was a reimagining as well as they admitted that more then half the original games content was cut when creating anniversary. It’s a decent game but when compared to what the original offered it doesn’t feel as amazing due to the failure to understand a little things that made it stand out and recreating that. They only had a short time to make this game so it’s understandable. I can only imagine how much bigger or different in a good way it could have been if they had more time. I myself enjoy this game as I have it on PC, PS2, Xbox360, PS3, and PSP but am left with wondering what could be it a faithful remake was done or if they had been able to stick more closely to things in the original. If you have a good gaming PC it looks absolutely stunning with all settings on high and almost feels like a different game then the consoles versions due to its increased beauty of the visuals and graphics. I just finished the reboot trilogy. I think the legend trilogy looks decent enough to play. I'm not sure I have the patience to play a PS1 game at my old age. Never really sure why I didn't play Tomb Raider when I was a teenager. My library was mostly Final Fantasy games.

Definitely dont do, what I did. My start was an absolute chaos!!! Discovering TR3 back in 2004, for a very first time, followed by Legend in 2006 and then TR2, Then Anniversary, TR4, AOD , TR5, and finally in 2008 Underworld ( im not even sure thats how I played them, I know I didnt even finish TR2 and Anniversary, but it was hard to find and run them on my PC in order between 2006-2008)... the new trilogy and then TR 1 (dont ask why so late) !!! Yes... :D it was madness ! So yeah, just pick up a timeline xD
The best version of TRA is the Xbox 360. Better graphics and framerate stability compared to PS3. But if you want 60fps you gotta play the PC version. Better resolution framerate but graphic effects downgraded idk why
