@@Username-kn9qh he was cringing not because of how it was being said but because it was being said. As they mentioned, MKBHD shoots in 8k and uploads in 4k, which is a 4x reduction in resolution. 1080p is a 16x reduction in resolution from what Marques shoots in
I bet you could even see him cringe if it was in 4k.
@@travelingtriathlete446 actually its half and one quarter the resolution.. I don't know how people began count in pixels over resolution, yeah 8k has 4 times the pixels than 4k but its just double the resolution.

When I watch this on my 4k monitor, it just looks blurry. One of the main reasons I watch mkbhd videos is because the video quality is probably the best you can find on youtube. That being said, even I don't shoot 4k because its a pain to edit it in post.

Bruh the compression on RUclips 1080p makes it sooo soft and blocky I just want to die. So much detail lost! On my 1080p monitor 1080p RUclips looks worse than high bit-rate 720p. I always watch in 1440p if I can cause the super-sampling and higher bit-rate make it look good. Even just do what Linus was doing for a while and upscale to 4k just to trick RUclips into giving you the option of higher bit-rate.
The reason that most pros put their good footage on Vimeo not MediocreTube.

I think the argument for 8K is that eventually most TVs will broadcast it. Marquez is totally right though that increased latitude, the ability to crop into a new shot if needed, stabilization, and more refined color correction for thing like better skin tones are all good reasons to shoot Ultra High Definition.
Don't hold your breath, the data transfer rate will swamp all available current equipment and not even 4K is widely accepted. It will never be broadcast since the FCC doesn't allow the needed bandwidth. It is great is you are shooting Imax otherwise why stop at 8K? There are 12K and higher cameras and have been for years.

Google 'youtube bitrate' to check the RUclips recommended bitrates for different resolutions. That is one reason to upload in 4k... It doesn't matter if you have a 1080p screen it gives you better quality if you set it to 4k because it enables higher bitrate to watch in but if you watch it on a phone it is true that it doesn't matter that much. Plus it is like when '720p was enough'.

not necessarily. over a bad connection steaming 4k at say 11 mbs would look worse than 1080 at 11 mbs I believe.

My phone has a max of 1080p but I still watch everything in 720p since it's such a small screen it's not that big of a difference and saves a ton of battery (for me atleast).

First to of all I'm so glad you moved to 4K Peter. I always appreciate the higher the bitrate, the higher the framerate, and the higher the quality is, because not all of us actually watch on our phones. And it makes a MASSIVE difference to those of us viewing the content on the big screens. Higher quality always allows those on smaller screens like phones to choose 1080p or 720p, but it gives us (the people on big screens) the option to actually enjoy the higher quality content. It is so hard for me personally going back and watching these 1080p videos for example after discovering your amazing content. So I'm very glad you moved to 4K yourself, and I would happily watch in 8K too (just because the bitrate is higher). I always choose 8K or 8K 60FPS when the option is available.
I shoot in 1080p for my channel. I have like 20 hard drives. I wish there were more videos out there talking about file management when dealing with data killing footage lol

or you can zip old unedited files and extract when you need them again, that helps alot on space

I personally like 4k footage on my UHD Monitor and really see a great difference. I noticed that when Casey Neistat switched to 1080p again and it looked almost bad compared.

Agree. Casey's best footage was GH5 on full blast. Switching back to 1080 is a no-go. Peter it's also time to upload without downconvert.
I think that it isn't about the resolution, but simply because your computer may downscale it, but it looks better because of the bitrate.

Davey King I can't speak for all Nikon cameras but I use the D750. Nikon definitely doesn't invest or market in video which is why they do not have the best autofocus or image stabilization. Yet gear is gear and I'm pretty sure you would shot all of your major projects in Manual focus where autofocus wouldnt be an issue. But like I said different strokes for different folks.
Yes, i agree gear doesn't matter. It is really up to the creator to create with whatever tools he/she has but Marques took a dab at Nikon because they really have nothing to offer for video when comparing to likes of Canon, Sony, Panasonic and now Fuji. All of this manufacture have a basic LOG to grading and Nikon doesn't.
I agree with that as I either have to use Flat or custom Profiles for color grading. But that may change with the new mirrorless cameras 🤞🏾
IMO, this is the best PM b-roll of all along with the music. It is so beautiful and artistic that I have to rewatch it again and again to inspire myself. So yeap, best PM b-roll.

haha, when he said 1 phone on the market that has a 4k screen. I have that 1 phone and the difference between 1080 and 4k is hard to see on a 5.5" screen is hard but the sharpness is phenomenal compared to 1080.
