Finally a video where someone cut them open! Thank you ! My neighbor, when I was a girl, had a big tree in her front yard of the big golden yellow loquats, she let us pick whatever we wanted. I’ve been trying to explain loquats to my husband so finally your video shows the inside with the big seeds. Brings back memories of that sweet delicious fruit!
Thank you for the great video and showing the different varieties. I just recently learned about loquats and bought one on OfferUp since I couldn’t find any in box stores. Don’t know what variety it is but at least I’ll have an idea now once it starts fruiting. Thanks!
I love all the maintenance that you give to your plants and that afterwards you could see the great work that you give fruits of great quality a big hug always.
I have been around loquat trees in the La Habra hills since the 70s. Many mature Avacado and Loquat trees mixed together. They support a bunch of critters and birds
Loquats don’t like to much water. I’m in riverside and my loquat is big I remove my fruit clusters to 4-5 fruit and 7-9 leaves and my fruits are averaging 70grams to 80grams some really nice size this yr.
You can find more room if you try hard enough, remove concrete, remove built in structures, remove non fruiting trees, plant stuff closer together, get rid of grass, you can think of something
New sub here...looking for info on loquat trees and came across your channel. I have a champagne loquat and I've been contemplating about putting mine in the ground. So far my tree is about 5ft.
Beautiful trees Adrian. I just tried my first loquat yesterday and now, I want my own loquat tree/trees! I kept some seeds so will try to plant them in the ground today:0) Recently, have been looking for loquat trees at home depot, lowes, and Armstrong but unsuccessful. Today, I bought my Champagne loquat at City Farmers Nursery and last month I got my Vista White Loquat from Exotica Vista Nursery :0) Thanks for the information otherwise I thought I hated loquats🙂
I thin the fruits to four or five to prevent the branches from breaking. I also prune but mostly to keep the height of the tree low (makes it easier to harvest).
How can I tell what type/variety I have growing in Orange County, Ca? I have so many more questions. Can you recommend a a website that can answer my questions?
Yea here in Sfbayarea there everywhere! Good thing I have that unknown variety Sugar Crisp from Exotica. It's a seedling so will be a while until I get some fruit off of it.
I also bought the seedling White Sugar Crisp from Exotica in Vista, about 3 months ago. It is growing fast and the new leaves are huge. It is planted on a windy sunny hilltop in Vista (zone 10a) and it is holding up good to all the wind.
I have heard that Sloat Garden Center is very reliable for buying trees like loquat. I'm in San Francisco. My tree is really old. I have no idea what the variety is. But the fruit is really good. And the seeds are viable. Prolific. Every year, I have to pull out dozens of sprouted new loquat trees. If I don't, they would overrun the yard. Loquat trees grow like weeds.
Very nice loquat trees brotha. Did you prune or train your gold nugget at all? Or did you just leave it alone to grow on it’s own? I have a young one. Just curious about how yours became so branchy. Thank you!
Have you ever dehydrated any? I’m on the hunt for a vista white now. I’ve heard good things about the dehydrated fruit definitely a way to persevere them since they have such a poor shelf life. Have you seen vegan athletes channel lately he’s off grid in Canada he just completed an yurt. Been some good videos cheers
I was told that the leaves cycle brown tips after getting salt from our water. Similar to avacado trees but loquat trees are on a different monthly clock
Vista White is not self pollinating. If the house next door has a loquat, you may not need to plant another variety of loquat as the bees will take care of it. If there is no nearby loquat and you have the space, you can plant another variety to ensure that the fruit sets.
I live in the California high desert soil is mostly rock and sand but i have mine in a container with good soil what kind of soil do i make to grow these i have 4 growing they are about 12 inches tall and how do i cover in winter to keep warm
If you purchase grafted trees, check out the graft area. There should be no growth from below the graft. Growth from the rootstock will be much more vigorous and will soon overtake the desired variety. Trees may look full and lovely, but you will not get the fruit you are looking for. Unlike fruit trees that are grafted on different species ( including loquat on quince), loquat on loquat has similar foliage top and bottom. One giveaway is if only one portion of the tree is fruiting ( grafted variety) and the rest is not. Always check the graft area and make sure to prune out any growth from the understock. I have encountered this problem on multiple occasions- most people don't even realize it. Also, if you live in a marginal area for loquat, best to plant cutting grown instead of grafted - no chance of the tree dying back to the understock. Any regrowth will still be the desired variety on a cutting grown tree. I am growing 11 varieties just north of Seattle
You answered a question I had. I was pretty sure I had heard that you could grow loquat from cuttings, but it didn't hear that mentioned in this video. I live in the Sacramento valley so there are some people with loquat in my area. I should see if my neighbors fruit are ripe. They offered to let me take cuttings if I wanted to try growing one.
@@PatricesProjects Be aware that plants from cuttings may take longer to fruit than grafted ( but not nearly as long as from seed) Since you live in a area that is highly unlikely to see cold damage to loquat ever - I personally would invest in grafted plants for more fruit sooner. However, if that is not a consideration for you, cuttings would be much cheaper, especially if you want a lot of them, and the fruit will be of predictable quality when it does come ( Also be aware that some loquat varieties need cross pollination, and almost all benefit from it. If you do not have loquats, try to get cuttings from at least two different trees that are blooming at the same time for better fruiting down the road)
You can find them on ebay or amazon or offerup or google search nurseries. Thats what i did im growing them in big containers. They are so worth it to grow they are so so so good
@@owentyresehendricks2678you can still get fruit really quick in 2 or 3 years if you take care of it that happened to my friend he grew it from seed and it produced 15 fruit in the 2nd year
No, it is like a peach or apricot tree in that respect. I’ve never seen it send up a sucker. The roots are relatively shallow. You may see seedlings from fruit that has fallen but these are easy to pull.
I've been searching for a large (like 15+ gal) loquat tree from various nurseries for a few years now. Found one at a nursery in San Bernardino, but the nursery closed for good shortly after I contacted them. I should have just planted a 5 gal from Home Depot/Lowe's back when I first started searching!
@@voiceofraisin241 Hmm. That doesn't make sense to me. First: I don't understand why a 15 would be root bound and a 5 not. Seems like either would have equal chance if left in the pot too long. I've planted a lot of 5gal trees that were totally root bound. Second: a 15gal tree is going to be physically much bigger, so I just can't see a 5gal tree overtaking a 15gal tree in growth if planted at the same time.
Any loquat grown from seed should not be called it's parental name for it is not the same fruit tree. Air layer it if you want the same tree or graft a scion onto one of your seedlings.

10/10 A +
So we need to remove some leaves too?
I read that they love water when flowering.
Great. I just planted one in Belgium.

I love this fruit my friend! We have it here as well. Yes i like it well ripe naturally on the tree.
Awesome video, great information, thank you, Adirian😊❤️
Heather Way thank you so much!
Good info as I'm looking to add a few to my place also.
Great video. I wish I had more room!

Grow in a container or a big trash can bin from walmart and make holes on the bottom

White loquats are the best. I planted it from seed.

I have a loquat. It happened to be in a very shady area. So the leaves are shrinking. Do you think it will survive?

Does Vista White Loquat Tree self pollinating, or I need another tree?

Owen Tyrese Hendricks yes but it may take 4-6 years

I have been gardening for a long time small trees always do better.
Try Laguna Hills Nursery.
AirLayer the Champane.
The birds spread the seeds, probably not people.
Many people have no idea that they’re edible.
where to buy vista vhite?
You can get vista white loquat on offer up, amazon maybe, maybe ebay, or on google maps search up "nursery"
I thought champagne need another variet y to fruit. I guess the bees take pollen from your other loquat trees.
