SPANDAN 2013 Dance 2 - Carolina Prada - Chhau Nataraja

Carolina Prada, a Colombian national, is establishing an important place for herself in the field of Indian dance. Having completed her fifth year pursuing both Odissi and Chhau, she has performed in well known festivals as a soloist, as well as a group dancer, showcasing both forms of dance. As a former ICCR scholar, she achieved a certificate course in Odissi dance, at Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra under Smt. Priyambada Pattnaik. Currently, she engages in further studies of Odissi, learning from the renowned Guru Padmashri Ranjana Gauhar. Furthermore, she is training in Mayurbhanj Chhau with Guru Janmejoy SaiBabu, and is a leading disciple since 2008, and one of the few female soloists of the young generation.
Though her dancing career started with Classical Ballet and Modern Dance, she preferred to specialize in martial dance forms such as Tai Chi Chuan, and also explored other disciplines such as Aikido, Kung Fu, Capoeira, Belly dance, Azteca dance and Colombian swordplay at Escuela Los Cinco Elementos, Colombia. This special interest in eastern cultures, Indian philosophy, arts and aesthetics made her come across Odissi and led her to pursue it on a professional level.
During her stay in India, she has had the privilege of working with some of the most eminent gurus in the field of dance such as Dr. Sonal Mansingh, Ranjana Gauhar, Sharon Lowen, Jyoti Srivastava and Geeta Mahalik.
The gurus she has trained with and her own dedication have brought out the true artist in her, placing her among promising performers of Odissi and Chhau.
NATARAJ:
Mayurbhanj Chhau is a semi classical dance of Odisha that emerged from the training arenas of Oriya soldiers, as well as other tribal and religious dance forms.
The item Nataraja in classical media, depicts three predominant moods that constitute the nature of the Lord of Dance, namely the peaceful and Yogic state of preservation, the frenzy of destruction in which he kills the demon of egoism and ignorance, and the ecstatic bliss in which he recreates the universe.

Pranam: Very nice performance. More young people should be introduced to Chhau and bring in mainstream. Odsha's tribals perform it so beautifully; slim strong bodies.
