Poverty begets poverty. One of the things that keeps African countries poor is funnily enough, other African countries. Why? Trade is the path to wealth, and limited infrastructural links and potential for trade, means that poverty really is just fuelling poverty in Africa. So when you have some countries making progress, it is great news for the rest of the continent, as eventually we can get some critical mass for a tide of change. Central African countries for example are not simply poor due to mismanagement and being landlocked, but given that their nearest trading partners are fellow poverty stricken central African nations, it doesn't bode well. Most likely the coastal African countries will have to be fixed first, then some of that growth might spillover into the centre.
People talk about how developed Europe is, but wealth also begets wealth. If you put countries like Albania, Georgia, Kosovo etc. in Africa, they might be poorer than Tanzania. This theory does paint a different picture to how beaten down Africa really is. If you fixed 15 countries in Africa, you might just have fixed the whole continent.
