Zillas vs Mega Mayhems

  • Just picked up a set of Mega Mayhems and doing a comparison vs Zilla tires. Both tires are 28" on 12" Rims. On the trails both tires seem pretty similar just a touch smoother and softer with the Zillas. But in the mud, the Mayhems really shine against the Zilla. Zilla's where running with 5psi and Mayhems where at 4psi. I should also mention the Zillas where about a year old. So there was some wear on them.
    Thanks for watching!

    I fully agree, just wanted to add Zilla lighter, Mayhem Heavier, Zilla Softer, Mayhem Harder tire, lugs on Mayhem larger than on Zilla's...Choose wisely

    IV owned 28 megas first loved them they pulled like crazy went to 30 zillas thinking hieght wuld overcome the aggressive megas.. I was wrong the zillas spin alot and slip were my megas bit and wheelies out of holes went to 30 zillas and had hell getting thru the same holes.. My quad is 850 xp

      Same issue, had 28” megas on my outlander 650 I now have a 2020 850 with 28” zillas and will be going back to a mayhem for mud/snow to much spinning with zillas.

    Great vid frankie..how do the zilla's do on long high speed runs? looking for a new tire for general trail riding, a bit of mud and logging roads.

    The outtys have a Visco lock system for the 4wd. So the tire that's not spinning in the front will engage only when the other tire spins. And there is no lag, all it takes is a split second to engage. So when turning on dry ground you hardly feel a thing. Pretty much the same set up as a posi trac diff in a pickup. @TheFinnishSniper

    Every time I watch this type of vid it makes me want to go buy a new pair of atvs again! I've been riding enduro bikes, atvs, sleds all my life. My son and I have allot of fun when we do, just not many places to ride without allot of travelling. At almost 50yrs. old now I still never get tired of playing in the mud, or building up a machine. My body doesn't like it as much anymore though,,lol! have fun.

      Stu650Zuk Sounds like I'm in the same boat as you almost 50. The years are counting down on us and we need to enjoy what ever there's left. So just do it! lol.

      Heck even the new 500L looks like it would be a fun machine and a good bargain for a pair of them for us to ride. I remember my first twin well, my old Kawasaki Prairie 700...It was fast for its time for sure. I like the smooth ride of the Polaris, but they aren't my favorite machine..But I don't knock anyone for what they ride, as long as your riding and having fun.

    I respect your opinion on entry level mud tires but a tire with a inch and a half lug on them cant be considered entry level. but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

    While the mega Mayham's deafly have a bigger tread pattern I feel that they are definitely comparable, my son ride a Kodiak 400 with zilla and I have a king quad 500 with the mayhems, he does just as well as I do through the mud and all terrain

    • @FrankiesChannel
      @FrankiesChannel  7 лет назад +1

      Yes I would agree. They are very similar as for mud performance. Mayhems have a slight advantage in mud but I like the Zillas a little better on the trails and snow.

    So now that you have rode both for a while which would you prefer zillas or mega mayhems? I have a 17 rancher 420 with 27" swamplites but really looking at running a 28" zillas or 27" mega

    • @FrankiesChannel

      I hated the Mega Mahems. Got rid of them after about 1 year. There okay in the mud but crappy everywhere else. Your rancher will be much happier with the zillas.

      I ended up getting Mega mayhem’s but agree the only thing they seem good for is mud! Did you end up going back to Zillas? And are Zillas any good in hard trail riding and rocky powerline trails?

    Like Jeffie H said I think a better comparison would be the zillas vs mayhems. The mega mayhems would be more comparable with the mudzillas. Please correct me if im wrong.

    • @FrankiesChannel
      @FrankiesChannel  9 лет назад

      Zillas and Mayhems are considered "entry level mud tire". Mudzillas fall more into "full mud tire" like Silverbacks and Outlaws. So what Jeffie is saying comparing an entry level to full mud tire would be funny. Silverbacks would put Mega Mayhems to shame in the mud and would have similar performance on the trails.

    Now I have the 30 monster mayhems and my old 30 zillas are not in the same league I go through holes in 2 wheel drive that required 4x4 with the zillas.. Also the monsters run 29.75 with 7psi were the zillas are 29 even with 8psi..

    Hey, can you spin 38-40 lb tires on a Honda Rubicon 500 in pretty thick mud ?

    • @aaronleblanc540
      @aaronleblanc540 7 лет назад

      you can spin almost anything. just might want to look in to a gear reduction just for precautions

    • @endurotruckererniedesjardins
      @endurotruckererniedesjardins 6 лет назад +1

      Buddy has a 500 rubicon with 28 inch mayhams. Works great. I run 30 inch monstermayhams on my 1000xp sportsman and i just crawl through most holes. Never really need to spin the tires. Spinning doesnt allow the tire to pack mud between the lugs to have something to push forward off of. Working as a logger in northern ontario i spend lots of time in the mud. Tire speed mostly digs you a hole to hang urself up in. Try crawling.

    little confused. seems your talking up the mayhams. but in the video at 3 min sounds like you say need 4x4 with the mayhems.....whats better in the mud???

    • @FrankiesChannel
      @FrankiesChannel  9 лет назад

      6669bj This was the first day with the mayhams and my expectations where high. For this reason I was talking them up. They are a little better in the mud but as time went on I didn't like them much on the trails.

      I have 27" zillas now. Trying to decide between mega mayhems and kenda executioners. I do about 60% trail, 40% mud and a lot of deep powder riding in the winter. Any suggestions?

    Great video. On a side by side comparison, are the Mayhem taller than Zilla. I have 28 Zilla and the seem to be on the short side. Measuring 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch short.

    • @FrankiesChannel
      @FrankiesChannel  10 лет назад

      28" Mayhems run even 1/2" shorter then the 28" Zillas. Little disappointing.

    • @cjr4497
      @cjr4497 7 лет назад

      the size on an atv tire is based off its unmounted diameter at the manufacturer's recommended psi. most people report measurements from the ground to the top of the tire after it has been mounted on the atv, and then commence to clamor about them running short. I have 26" mayhems due to tire restrictions where i hunt. They measure true on the horizontal with itp's recommended 7psi. they measure 25.5" from the ground up with 7psi and 25" with 5psi. the factory 25" tires that came on my rubicon which are made by maxxis measured 23" from the ground up with 5 psi and 23.75 horizontal to the ground. it is normal for a tire to measure 1/2" to 3/4" shorter when measured from the ground up, but if it is over an inch short when inflated to factory specs and measured correctly then that is a problem.
