    As much as I love listening to your playing, I really appreciate how you showed a wide variety of settings and went through them quickly to show off the versatility of the amp.

    The key with these amps is the limiter. Softens the edges while retaining the sustain. I am always surprised about how high the gain is set but limiter above 12 O'clock gives the amp a really great edge type tones. Perfect for pedals...

      I still don’t get what the limiter does, can you explain it to me? Thanks!

      I've had limiters on other amps, most notably a Lab L5, but this seems the most useful one I've had on an amp.

      @@mageillusit’s basically compression. Instead of raising the noise floor like most compressors do, it “limits” how much the sound can poke out when you’re hitting it hard. It’s something tube amps do just by virtue of physics of the different components. This knob allows you to dial it in. One of the big differences with tube and solid state sounds are the transients (softer on tube). That’s why some metal guys preferred solid-state along with Allan Holdsworth. However, the higher the headroom, the more tubes get harsh with the transients like a Hi-Watt.

    • @bryanherward4679

      @@mageillus the Quilter limiter is a bit different than others. It really limits the amount of distortion in the signal...along with adding a bit of squish and softness to the signal allowing the ampo to stay cleaner louder. The test for it is to turn the gain all the way up and crank the limiter all the way. Play and then lower the limiter and the gain will increase and front of the note will get harder. On my Micropro Mach 3 I usually just leave it where the strings feel good under finger and sound right for the room.

    Quilter is a great brand. I have the Aviator head and the Mach 2 combo. Great amps great tones, dirty and clean. Killer pedal platform, Pat’s a gear head will talk about his products anytime, great customer service , made in USA… Quilter 4 the win 👌🏾🤘🏾

    Quilter does the lower gain overdrive better than any other solid state amps. I have both superblock amps. US and UK. Both are excellent. I bet my amps would sound even better if RJ played them.

      @@tomolewine5743 after talking to Mr Pat & learning a lot, I'm going with the US as my primary - using an a/b/y box to kick in the UK for leads keeping the volumes roughly the same but the sound very different. Running them both at the same time is great fun - tons of combinations. Gotta love Quilter 👍👍

    • @tomolewine5743

    I was impressed with the tone someone was getting playing through an Aviator Cub at an outdoor gig, summer of '23. Half a year later I had a dream about one and the next day I walked into a big chain music store and they had ONE remaining on clearance! I've had quite a few amps over the years and am partial to Orange, and am now pleased to add Aviator Cub UK. Extra bonus: at 21 lbs, these are about 9 lbs. lighter than an Orange Crush 35RT while similar in size, more power and a bigger speaker.

    I'm listening on some decent speakers. I'd say the cleans are where it's at for this amp. The dirty tones are okay but seem to lack the tube magic. I like the edge of breakup tones though. Nice playing RJ.

    • @stephenhanlin2388
      @stephenhanlin2388 Год назад +1

      @Marius Any company can make a great clean but Solid State distortion has a reputation for being awful. The higher the volume, the worse it sounds.
      The opposite is the case w tube overdrive. Tube amps have more thickness & clarity & are more responsive to picking dynamics.

    • @Coolbeans1492
      @Coolbeans1492 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@stephenhanlin2388so he’s basing his ideas on the reputation of poor practice amps instead of this? Good Solid states with pedals at high volumes are just as good as any tube amp with the same pedals at the same volumes. Theyre different and require different approaches to eq. If you can get a solid state to eq like a tube amp you’ve really done some magic. Plug into a solid state bass amp and watch your mind be blown.

    • @coupe-lee
      @coupe-lee 8 месяцев назад

      I think if he played more with the limiter it would have made a difference. I love my Quilter. If you really want all the idiosyncrasies of tubes,you can dial it in, but you can basically get whatever you want out of it.
      The limiter is what adjusts the attack to make the dynamic quality of the amp a bit more tube like and softens the transients and breakup.

    • @coupe-lee
      @coupe-lee 8 месяцев назад

      They’re loud. The master volumes have a lot of headroom. The biggest difference would be how you’re diffusing the sound. In the manuals they say that the possible output is actually higher than the rating implies. It’s mostly due to the efficiency of the technology (class D power).

    looking at the Mach 3. not too many vids online. Do these amps not get the love they deserve? So versatile, especially when combined with cabs from 1x10 to 4x12

    • @coupe-lee
      @coupe-lee 8 месяцев назад

      I’ve got the Mach 2 HD stack. They are very underrated. I was checking them out online for a while, couldn’t try one, a guitar professor I knew was playing one, and I was blown away. My tube amps don’t get played much anymore.
      Tube snobs turn up their noses until they try them. That same prof actually sold all his tube amps after buying a Quilter, and he’s super discerning in sound.

  • @innocentoctave

    Excellent sounds: a real alternative to the tube originals in one relatively small box. The only negative for me was that the AC Norm channel seemed a little characterless next to the JMP and Top Boost: just a more muted version of the latter. I'm not sure that it earns its presence. If that middle channel could be some sort of Fender-style sound, this would be a killer. I don't know whether that is even technically feasible in a single solid-state amp and speaker combo.

    • @stephenhanlin2388

      @Stephen Hanlin no it doesn't. My Cubs sound far better clean and dirty. I had a head and combo Mach 3, both are gone while the Cubs and TB 202 remain.

    • @coupe-lee
      @coupe-lee 8 месяцев назад +1

      Well, it is called the “Normal” channel after all. Something a little less strongly flavored might allow people that want to get lots of different sounds out of pedals to have more versatility and not be as locked-in to a particular sound.

    I just checked one of these out at the local GC. There was also the "Fender" Aviator Cub version that i did't get the chance to check out but i am impressed with the quality of tones for a solid state UK version.
    I was curious about Line 6 Catalyst and checked that out as well but the 200 watt floor demo's "Clean" didn't work...?? Then i had seen demo video's of these Quilter's. I'm really consideing getting both the Avaiator Cub and Aviator Cub UK! Your demo is confirming my G.A.S. decision. Great playing as usual!
