  • Here's the follow-up to my last video. Is this no maintenance, 3 year warranty, advanced LiON powered 1500 Watt/Hour electric riding mower that charges in 4 hours worth it? This new technology currently comes with a steep entry fee that may not be for everyone.
    For me the simplicity of use and no headache experience is definitely worth it.
    In short: no complaints, a pleasure to use and it's a lot of fun.
    Happy Mowing !

    It's been awhile since having to mow a yard but it brings back memories of moving into a new house as a 11 y/o. I told my parents I could push mow 1.5 acres with a gas push mower. That was a dumb idea so we got a Craftsman 48" gas riding mower the next year. Electric riding mowers seem great including not having to be courteous to your neighbors due the sound it makes whereas a gas mower you had to wait to some reasonable time in the morning.

      The consumer mowers all are made by MTD which makes them for Cub cadet, SEARS, YARD MACHINES, etc. The individual brands may change a thing here or there but not much different by way of parts between brands.

    Thanks for posting something on this mower. Can't find much that might help with my question, so perhaps you can, which would be appreciated.
    I checked the manual I received, and it doesn't deal with this. I just bought it and started using it at the end of July 2020, so it's very new and not used very many hours yet. However, in the first two times I used it this year in the last several days, there's a clicking noise that has begun in the rear. I figure it has something to do with something needing to be greased. Well, on the bottom of the transmission there's a 1/2" bolt that can be unscrewed like on an oil pan, except this looks to be one into which may be squirted some fluid or oil or grease or something, but nothing about it in the paperwork I have. Do you have any info on this yourself? (I don't have a trailer or a pickup to haul this thing to a shop and am figuring it's an issue I can fix. I am, however, going to grease the wheels as the manual mentions, but there's nothing on this tranny hole.) Thanks for any feedback.
    By the way, I really like this mower except for the ride -- it's VERY rough.

    • @TonyDenton
      @TonyDenton 3 года назад

      Even after I had a mower guy come out to the house to look at it, since I don't have a way to get it to him, I'm still having this issue, being afraid it's going to lock up on me anytime. :( It's under factory warranty for another month, so I guess I'm going to have to find a way to get it back to Lowe's for them to send off to Memphis or somewhere; but if I do that, it could be gone for two months from what I read. Very aggravating. :( If I could just figure out how to get to those wheel or ball bearings to see if that's the issue, I could grease and/or replace them; but it seems to be all sealed up except that one hole mentioned above, into which the mower guy already added quite a bit of gear oil. Oh well, my kinda luck.

    • @sgbaird
      @sgbaird 3 года назад

      I don't care about the cost, but I would have liked the otherwise great video to mention how often and how long the battery has to be recharged. This was shown with no mention of battery time between charges in his earlier, equally great video.

    • @Animalwon
      @Animalwon 3 года назад

      Some brands use a different capacity battery but most hold a charge long enough to mow an acre. Most brands that use Lithium Ion batteries suggest you leave it plugged into the charger between uses. The RYOBI uses Lawn mower batteries and they have about the same capacity but they want you to charge it before each use.

  • @Moshe_Dayan44
    @Moshe_Dayan44 3 года назад

    I currently have a Ryobi 480e 75Ah electric mower that I've had since 2017, and the batteries are at the point where they will need to be replaced. It used to do my 1 acre lot on about 1/2 a full charge, but now, I can't even get 1/5th of acre out them without needing to recharge. It uses 4 LPC 12-75 deep cycle lead-acid batteries, but if I replaced them, I'd get LPC 12-100 Ah batteries, which are ~$300 Canadian each, so $1,200 to replace (which I think is insane). My big question about this E-150 Craftsman mower is, will the lithium-ion battery(s) last longer than the lead-acid batteries in the Ryobi? Also, how much would a replacement lithium-ion battery cost for it?

    • @djgate
      @djgate Год назад

      Lead Acids are inferior, I have a lithium powered push mower that's still going strong after fifteen years of service on its original lithium batteries.
      They must be kept charged between mowing's and once before winter storage.

I bought the cub cadet CC30 E , which is the same platform as the craftsman , the mower just stopped , I hop off , turn key off , allow a few minutes before turning back on , follow the LCD screen prompts , but when I press start button , nothing ( 85 percent charge and only run 8.9 hours ) ....

      Hi,
      Yes, I will be updating my review on a similar issue I’ve been experiencing which will be the subject of my one year follow-up. After spending hours on the phone and two trips to separate “authorized” service centers charging me for transport, MTD’s higher level technical support has diagnosed a defective “VCM”. After waiting weeks to source a replacement and endless troubleshooting between MTD and the service center, it now appears the replacement “VCM” is also defective . Since it’s on backorder nation wide, I’m forced to wait for yet another replacement. At this point, I’m advising folks to think twice before buying and consider investigating who will be servicing this technology which is unfamiliar to most “authorized” service locations. It may be a case where the concept was better than MTD’s execution - particularly when it comes to servicing such an expensive mower!

    • @adrianthegeek
      @adrianthegeek  4 года назад +1

      Not sure what fault your experiencing. On rare occasions, I've gotten an fault on the display that usually goes away after turning off the mower for a few mins. causing it to reset. In my case, I suspect dust, grass clippings etc may have caused an electrical connection issue. I may make an updated video on this in the future with possible fixes. A fault on one of the three safety switches, I point out in the video will completely disable the mower. If you're still experiencing problems, you may want to contact the manufacture for advice. I bypass Craftsman and go directly to MTD at 800-269-6215. Let me know how it worked out...

  • @sgbaird

    I guess it is too early to learn about how often the battery will need to be replaced. Several reviews have mentioned that the battery replacement is NOT something an owner can do. In fact, one poster mentioned that MTD, the manufacturer will not sell a battery to a private owner.

    • @adrianthegeek
      @adrianthegeek  4 года назад +2

      I've found that it slips occasionally depending on steepness. This seems to be a factor for the electric mower due to the lighter rear weight vs. the gas powered model.

  • @randymiller2460
    @randymiller2460 3 года назад +1

    I don't think an electric mower would have a hydro-static transmission. That would be something you would need to have variable speed control on a gasoline engine running at a constant rpm. A mower with electric motors would use a form of electronic variable speed control with no transmission other than maybe a reduction gear. I think most would be direct drive.

    • @freeman48083

      I'm a republican and I love the idea of an electric mower. Especially if if has a lower cost of ownership and less maintenance over the life of the unit. I also don't like breathing in gas exhaust fumes and all the noise that a gasoline engine produces. By the way some of the first "environmentalist" were republicans. Don't forget, love him or hate him, Nixon was the one who signed the Clean Air and Water act into law. Conserve is the root word of both conservation and conservative. To be conservative is to be thoughtful and careful in action and purpose (not reckless and reactionary) so as to preserve that which is good.
