here's the notes:
Calculated Column:
- A calculated column is evaluated for each row.
- Calculated columns do not work in filter context; they work on the whole dataset.
- Calculated columns are pre-calculated.
- A calculated column is computed when you first define it and during a dataset refresh.
- Stored in memory (consumes RAM).
➙ Example of a calculated column: TotalSales = Sales[Quantity] * Sales[UnitPrice].
Measure:
- A measure must contain an aggregation function such as AVG or SUM.
- Measures work in filter context.
- Measures are calculated on the fly.
- Measures evaluate the value based on the subset of data selected by filters, slicers, or slicing and dicing components of visuals in the report.
- Measures consume CPU, not RAM.
➙ Example of a measure: TotalSales = SUM(Sales[Amount]).
