great videos but i noticed that when you reinstall the axle nut appeared that you over tightened, won't That damage the bearing.? if not torqued properly.? my opinion.
It depends on the vehicle and their torque specifications. If they are low enough, you can get someone to hold the brakes and torque it with a torque wrench. I just did a Mazda Tribute the other day and it was only 100 ft-lbs. Some vehicles are quite high like several hundreds of ft-lbs. So in a lot of cases, an impact is ok especially if it's only a couple hits after the axle nut bottoms. Best advice is torque to proper specs though. Hope this helps. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!
@@wayofthewrench two questions: 1) Does the impact wrench has a +/- 4% accuracy rate, which is the industry standard? 2) Is the torque on the impact wrench adjustable in 1-foot-pound increments or is it just high, medium and low? if It's the latter, it's not accurately torqued. This is how you get premature bearing failure.
Thanks David! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel! Cheers!

LMAO 5:01 "Not a bad idea to wet the brakes down to prevent airborne asbestos" as he breathes in 'no mask' as the dusty rusty murky air hovers around his face/ Reminds me of my dad when i was a kid he would tell me "dont start smoking its very bad for you" as he drew another drag from his cigarette. Great informative vid!
Lol, safety squints set to max! Yeah should have shown the wetting of the brake parts but it can make filming harder. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!
Yeah they can be easy....and they can be rough. Hopefully yours is easy. Thanks for the watch and if you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Cheers!
You are supposed to change both bearings on an axle but I have changed just one if a person's budget is tight and the axle isn't connected to the other side. I wouldn't change all 4 though because the way life goes, you'll end up selling or having it written off before you would need to do the next set. Thanks for the watch and the good question!
It depends on the vehicle, some have wheel bearing hub assemblies, some have pressed in bearings, some have bearings that can be hammered in and out, and some require a slide hammer to remove too. You'll have to take a look. Thanks for the watch!
Vancouver, Canada. Thanks, I do try to make the best videos I can so I can share my experience with people. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch!
It may already have been mentioned, but there isn't any asbestos in pads any more. I think it's been since the 80s but I'm not sure. Thanks for the great video!
That's not true, not all manufacturers, especially aftermarket ones have removed asbestos from their friction material. They are still very much able to be on your vehicle so I just treat them all as asbestos ones. The brake dust even if it isn't asbestos is not healthy to breathe in anyways. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Tackling this job in my Mazda. All the bolts came off easily, but the wheel bearing feels stuck on. Going to try beating at it a bit with a sledge. If I can’t do it then I’m just going to bring it into a shop. Not going to mess around this time and have to call a mobile mechanic.
Sometimes the bearing gets really rusted in and requires heat and a sledgehammer. There is also a hub puller that you mount and then smash with a hammer to get it to pop. Good luck!
Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed the video! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. A heat gun might work on some things but a torch is waaaay hotter. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Very very interesting and imformative, thank you so much. Can I ask, what do stores like yours do with the broken parts such as the old broken wheelbearing? How are they disposed or can they be repurposed for anything else?
Some parts you can return to get back your core charge but bearings are usually scrap. I collect scrap metal in a bin until it's full and then I put it in a vehicle that I'm going to scrap. Then they give us a bit of money for the scrap value. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench Thank you so much for letting me know. I always wondered what happened to broken things. I recently had to get another engine put into my little Suzuki and wondered what would have been done with the broken one. lol Thank you so much!
An broken engine would most likely be sent to an engine rebuilder or wrecking yard to be disassembled for used parts. There's lots of money in recycling used auto parts. Cheers!
It is a good practice to change both on an axle because the other side has just as much wear. However, I have changed a few vehicles where we only did one side. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
hey i need to replace my wheel bearing and i saw ur vid , my car has the same issue as this car but its only in one back wheel but i heard its better to do both back wheels, my car is a fwd . Is it really necessary to replace both ? and what are the consequences if i do only one
Yeah you are supposed to do both but I have done just one bearing sometimes. They both have the same amount of km on them so they usually wear out together. Sometimes if only one bearing is replaced, there can be issues with differential or transmission wear. Thanks for the watch!
You know your job. I just changed wheel bearings but I can feel the car doesn’t pull as it was and it runs jerky with still some whooo noise that made me take it in for service. What should I do?
Quick question, I have a Suzuki Every (Da64V.. the non turbo) and when I turn the wheel a bit to the right it makes a metal scratching sound but it does not happen when I start slowing down or turn left. I am thinking it is a bad wheel bearing on the drives side (right side) but could it possibly be part of the drive shaft?
I have a great video on road testing a bearing you should check out too. Usually metal scraping sounds are not bearings but something else that spinning like brakes or wheel well touching the edge of tires. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and good luck!
Sweet, glad I could help! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Cheers!
shot in the dark, but i'm pretty sure the rear hub bearing on my 2000 ford mustang is bad, and whenever i search up a replacement part all that pops up is stuff for the front, what should i search for?
I would go to a local auto parts store and see how much they are and ask them for the manufacturer and part number. Then you will have the info to search on the net. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
You should but if money is tight, I have changed just one. They are about $250-300 CAN just for the part and labour can easily double if not triple the cost. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
While candle wax will work some penetrating oils (seafoam deep creep comes to mind) do very well with heat and suck in a lot easier. I was doing the brakes on my 07 mustang and the slide pins were frozen in and mapp gas and seafoam got them moving. Still needed new ones of course but wax didn't even give a hint of going in. Saved me from having to buy a new caliper bracket.
Yeah it's about the same, just be careful not to start a fire spraying penetrating oils. Sometimes just the heat is all you need, the lube just prevents galling on the way out. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
If you can see the lines or the numbers on the head of the bolts then you can look up the torque charts online. You'll need to know the grade of the bolts and the diameter plus the pitch. You could also look on forum posts but confirm with the online torque charts. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel. Cheers!
It all depends on the vehicle and whether or not it's seized on. Parts and labour could easily be $1,000. Lots of savings to do it yourself though. Thanks for the watch!
Service manuals, owner's manual, Alldata or Mitchell on demand, Chilton's manuals.....lots of places. As a very rough estimate, you can add up the lights and times it by 20 ft-lbs and that'll give you a setting for your torque wrench. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Be advised. When moving to a bigger tool, you need to make sure you have enough air supply. Ya gotta let the Big Dawg eat! When I sold tools for Mac Tools, a customer wanted a 1" impact gun for big truck work. I delivered the tool, but he wouldn't buy the hose I had ordered for the gun. The following week he wanted to return the 1" Impact because it wasn't working right. I left him the 3/4" hose and fittings to set it up properly. When I asked him about it the next week, he said it scared him how much more power it had on the first hit.
That's a great tip and something that would totally slip by people's minds. That being said, in our shop we almost never use this 3/4" impact gun so probably a waste to get that set up in our shop. Thanks for the suggestion.
Yup you're right, some do. They can be a pain to take out too when they're seized up. A little heat and an impact driver works wonders. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Yeah if your rotor has them you can totally use them. Watch out if you have internal drum brakes though as they can break springs if the shoes are worn into grooves. Thanks for the watch!
Sounds like something is interfering with the closing or the latch. The latch could also be out of alignment. Sometimes there is an electrical motor that pulls the latch down that might not be working too. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch!
They can be challenging but also rewarding. Saving money is the main driving factor when thinking about attempting these repairs. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel. Cheers!

@@wayofthewrench absolutely, was an apprentice to become a mechanic back in the day, so it’s great to sit back and watch your videoes and brush up on lost knowledge 😃👍🏻
You never went back to mechanics? What did you end up doing?
@@wayofthewrench no, unfortunately, I ended up loosing my left hand due to a faulty operation. I ended up with a degree in trade&commerce, mainly managing warehouse storage and distribution.
Oh dude...wasnt expecting that answer. Sorry to hear that happened. It's crazy how our lives can change with our health, I'm going through my own stuff right now. Cheers!
how do you now if the vehicle needs a new hub assembly or just the wheel bearing? Specifically kia forte 2010
They are almost all hub assemblies now but you can google your cars replacement part and see what it shows. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Great instructor.

great videos but i noticed that when you reinstall the axle nut appeared that you over tightened, won't That damage the bearing.? if not torqued properly.?
Cheers!
@@wayofthewrench two questions:
1) Does the impact wrench has a +/- 4% accuracy rate, which is the industry standard?
2) Is the torque on the impact wrench adjustable in 1-foot-pound increments or is it just high, medium and low? if It's the latter, it's not accurately torqued. This is how you get premature bearing failure.
nice video mate

LMAO 5:01 "Not a bad idea to wet the brakes down to prevent airborne asbestos" as he breathes in 'no mask' as the dusty rusty murky air hovers around his face/ Reminds me of my dad when i was a kid he would tell me "dont start smoking its very bad for you" as he drew another drag from his cigarette. Great informative vid!
Lol, safety squints set to max! Yeah should have shown the wetting of the brake parts but it can make filming harder. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel! Cheers!

Happy to help Shedrick, thanks for the watch!
Good speaker you know what you are doing ihave always used zep pentertraing oil does the wax work better I didn't see smoke your way
Yeah the candle wax does wonders as it wicks into the threads. There can be smoke, it just depends how hot you get it. Thanks for the watch!
I hope everything goes well when they change my wheel bearing like your work
Yeah they can be easy....and they can be rough. Hopefully yours is easy. Thanks for the watch and if you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Cheers!
Ive done this in the street with no power tools years ago..getting the big old castle nut off was fun...
Yeah that's where the fun is.......lol. been there , done that. Much easier with heat but ya gotta have the heat. Thanks for the watch!
Would you only replace the bad bearing, the axle, or all 4 at a time?
You are supposed to change both bearings on an axle but I have changed just one if a person's budget is tight and the axle isn't connected to the other side. I wouldn't change all 4 though because the way life goes, you'll end up selling or having it written off before you would need to do the next set. Thanks for the watch and the good question!
Can I do this to my Toyota Tundra I have both wheel bearings for rear. Some said I’d have to press the bearings in
It depends on the vehicle, some have wheel bearing hub assemblies, some have pressed in bearings, some have bearings that can be hammered in and out, and some require a slide hammer to remove too. You'll have to take a look. Thanks for the watch!
Good video man 😂😅😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully I earned your subscription today! Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Where is your shop located sir,I love how informative you are seems pretty experienced
Vancouver, Canada. Thanks, I do try to make the best videos I can so I can share my experience with people. If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the watch!
Awesome. Saved a ton of money that Toyota was going to charge me….and the satisfaction of doing it myself.
Perfect! That's what it's all about. Pride...my friend. Cheers!
Good luck!
you simply rock dude!! What do you think of using a heat gun instead of the acetylene torch?
Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed the video! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. A heat gun might work on some things but a torch is waaaay hotter. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
@@wayofthewrench thanks for explaining & i will
Very very interesting and imformative, thank you so much.
Cheers!
Thank you pro 🙌
You're welcome 😊. Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers!
Thanks I've got noise at the front wheel in reversing and forward how will I do
What kinda noise? Could be CV axles or something else too.
If one side is bad. do you recommend changing the other side? since I'm at the mechanic shop & prevent future problem. Thanks AAA+++ video
Hard to say but perhaps fasteners weren't torqued enough and are coming loose? You could lift the car and check for wheel looseness again. Good luck!
@@wayofthewrench watched the video and yep, it’s a bad wheel bearing. Thanks for the tips. They are great!

shot in the dark, but i'm pretty sure the rear hub bearing on my 2000 ford mustang is bad, and whenever i search up a replacement part all that pops up is stuff for the front, what should i search for?
I would go to a local auto parts store and see how much they are and ask them for the manufacturer and part number. Then you will have the info to search on the net. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Would this process be the same for a 2015 Toyota RAV4??
Yes it should be exactly the same. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
Do you have to change both sides or just the side that have the wheel bearing issue? And what is the cost range to replace the wheel bearing?
Where can I find the torque specs for certain bolts it you don’t have the manual or online
If you can see the lines or the numbers on the head of the bolts then you can look up the torque charts online. You'll need to know the grade of the bolts and the diameter plus the pitch. You could also look on forum posts but confirm with the online torque charts. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel. Cheers!
Just what i needed to find how to replace those rusted bolts
Yeah this is one of if not the best trick for stubborn bolts/nuts.....heat
Thanks guy!
You're very welcome!
You make it easy,How much does a job like this cost?
It all depends on the vehicle and whether or not it's seized on. Parts and labour could easily be $1,000. Lots of savings to do it yourself though. Thanks for the watch!
How do you find the torque settings for each specific vehicle?
Keep going like them
Thank you, I will
Excelent , thanks a lot .

Great stuff
Thanks bud! Thanks for the watch!
Some drums have a small, countersunk screw which you will have to undo to get the drum off.
Yup you're right, some do. They can be a pain to take out too when they're seized up. A little heat and an impact driver works wonders. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
A couple of M8 bolts driven into those threaded holes on the rotor will pop that rotor off without any hammering.
Yeah if your rotor has them you can totally use them. Watch out if you have internal drum brakes though as they can break springs if the shoes are worn into grooves. Thanks for the watch!
Goooood job
Thanks Bruh!

05 town car trunk latch assembly shimmies when closing , wont pull down and lock.
Sounds like something is interfering with the closing or the latch. The latch could also be out of alignment. Sometimes there is an electrical motor that pulls the latch down that might not be working too. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch!
Not me seriously considering replacing my own wheel bearing myself. 😂
They can be challenging but also rewarding. Saving money is the main driving factor when thinking about attempting these repairs. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel. Cheers!
Can you change the bearing itself rather to open and change all the hub assembly and this will save money and time.
Not this type. There are 3 types: bearing hub assemblies, press in type, and thrust style with inner and out races. This type is a complete unit and cannot be fixed....just replaced. Thanks for the watch!
0:45 crack the lug nuts?
Tighten or loosen?
Crack loose ( loosen quickly). Thanks for the watch!
Isnt it possible to fix one of these bearings?
Wheel bearing hub assemblies aren't fixable but any press in bearings are. Thanks for the watch!
