I never felt any chest engagement on this exercise and the first thing that caught my attention was regarding the height of the pulley being same as your own. Never knew that as it always been at the very top when I did this exercise. Retracting the shoulder blades is another that I didn't know. Today Gonna try it and see! Thanks!
I can add something I do myself during cable flys. I don't stop the movement when my hands meet. I cross my hands over each other so that my range of motion is widened a little, allowing you to really get that squeeze in the chest. Anyway. Best of luck
Oh man, having watched this I realize my form when doing this exercise has been terrible. Thanks for this video Scott, I've gotta practice the correct form!
Today was my first day doing chest flies, it was horrible! 😭 My technique is horrible even when I try to do them correctly. A guy approached me and corrected my form and Im really thankful for that since now I have a somewhat decent form. Im going to apply what I learned from that guy and what I learned from this video next time I do chest even with very low weight just to improve the technique. Thanks for this video! I cannot wait till my next chest day
Love cable flys but only have bands in the home gym set up. While flys can be done with them it is the end part of the movement that can be difficult. There is a tendency to bend the elbow to finish the move. That basically does not stretch the band anymore. So, if you are doing flys like me and using resistance bands make sure to keep than able if elbow band the same throughout the movement and keep constant tension both positive and negative. Nice video BTW
I always try to get to the gym early as the cable machines (all rwo of them) are really popular. Cables are my main workouts as I don't like weights. Great advice, thanks.
That's definitely going to help a lot when I do cable flys next time. Many thanks for uploading this, Scott 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 And I certainly look forward to more GOOD STUFF from you in the future
The arm go to far back.At the end of the eccentric movement the knuckels should be alighnend whit the chest.they shoulden t be be that far like in a reverse peck fly. This exercise will therfore damage your shoulder if done like in the video
I wish I had that cable machine, but I don't have the money or the space for it. Maybe the BowFlex is better. Out of curiosity, what is the web link that your cable machine is from?
@@ScottHermanFitness it's crazy cuz I was just looking into these for lower chest😅tried them out once or twice and wasn't sure whether I was doing them optimally or not, so nice vid! Also, how would you compare these with high-to-low cable crossovers?
@@ScottHermanFitness thanks Scott, always helpful advice, I guess also step forward and take slack out so you get the constant tension. Be cool if you did a band slash home gym series. Have barbell, dumbbells bands just mi cable machines. Cheers from the UK
Good video. Already know what I’m doing in the gym essentially but there’s nothing more I hate than these tip videos that are 20 minutes long with 2 minutes of info
Classic video..Been watching you a long time..you are right make the muscle do the work..this is a form exercise you see everyone messin up in the gym...Thanks scott merry Christmas from nyc
At 1 minute and 39 seconds is why most people don’t like working out you have a great physique but it’s just too much to think about. Too me working out should be free flowing I would say upwards of 90% of people don’t have proper form Good stuff though
Hey Scott, i dnt think your subscribers need or want this type of content.. it's fine for noobs just getting started..but at this point in time youtube fitness needs more from you being an OG natty. I feel like you stopped learning in your lifting journey about proper programming and that reflects in your physique where you are forever stuck in a "novice" phase. This is not a hate message. I expected more
I hope you realize how dumb your comment sounds lol. Scott in a "novice" phase? Wtf are you talking about? How do you come to that conclusion, based on his size, or what? You do realize, as Scott has stated before, his goal is not pure muscle mass. You know this right? Do you really judge whether someone is a novice based on their muscle mass? That's the dumbest gym thing I've heard in a while lol
Great advice on chest activation on cable flys. Perfect refresher. For my first set I like to use light weights just to focus on proper setup and form. The next sets are challenging but my mind stays focused on executing properly. Thanks mate! 🙏
These are my favorite chest finisher as well. I see so many people doing these wrong, I used to as well. I perform like you do, and ever since I started my chest has filled out. I'm not naturally gifted in the pecs, and think these have helped a lot with uneven pecs and feeling the peak contraction. I will add I like these much more than pec deck which tends to irritate my pec tendon and shoulders. I think the serratus involvement of the cable variation is a big reason, because you can safely protract at the end range.
Man your videos have inspired me for years! You always have such excellent form in your workouts, with in depth knowledge and useful tips. Hopefully one day my videos will be quality as yours are!
Never realized it had to be at head level, good to know. Thanks for the tips 👌 also, I found out one of my best friends is one of your cousins. So that was cool to know😂
I call it a "focus split". "Bro split" sounds dumb, and gives the split a bad rep. The split type is one tool out of the toolbox, just like sny other. It can be plenty effective if used properly, and in conjunction with other tools
Most likely I do. That's why you should always follow the advice in my most recent videos, as that's when I have the most up-to-date knowledge that I'm sharing with you guys

Literally never felt these in my chest. Can’t wait to try it.
Stop telling people to stagger their feet. It’s not better for stability at all. I see more RUclipsrs say this but it’s just wrong

Too many people are pressing the cable fly instead of scooping the way u explained
Really informative and straight forward as always,I struggle sometimes to feel the contraction on cable flys so this video has come in pretty useful !
