I think the biggest thing for me on this is the fact that everything at Sephora is so expensive. I don’t have the money to spend $45+ on a foundation, so most of these I haven’t tried. I’d love to see one of these videos for Ulta/Target/Drug store that caters to more affordable budgets

@@cindyfern not really, and I don’t appreciate the comment. I watch all videos, whether or not I can buy the foundation. If it goes on sale than maybe I will buy it. So it’s not the “wrong video” I was advising where I stand so hopefully they can make something geared toward everyone. It was a suggestion.

I’ve been a chemist and a process engineer with 12 years of experience in the beauty industry, and I will say, SOME raw materials are hard to get sometimes because it’s simply over-ordered, but that is very rarely the case when brands relaunch.
Most of the time, it’s because the EU or California (both very stringent entities) have called out an ingredient as “ban-worthy” in their state or country OR fully banned.
Rather than wait for the ingredient to be banned everywhere (or not being able to ship it to that country/state) and having to scramble to over label the components, brands reformulate. THAT is what happens all the time.
Also, not all alcohols are rough on skin and moisture barrier. Customers often complain about alcohol in formulations bc they don’t know fatty alcohols exist. They do the opposite of strip moisture from skin.
One more thing if anyone is still reading 😂: I HATE the Haus Labs foundation formula. It’s SO heavy and gives the same effect as the drugstore foundations in the late 90’s did. So thick, so stiff, probably way too much TIO2. No.

I have been a HUGE fan of the Dior Face & Body foundation for years and it is a go-to staple in my pro makeup kit. However...the new formula is NOTTTTT the same, ugh! It makes me so upset, mainly because the shade range is TOTALLY different. The formula is different as well, but the biggest issue I have with it is the "old" 3N does not equal the new 3N (or literally any shade - just using 3N as an example). This has caused a major issue for me because I do makeup lessons...so when I've been using the "old" 2CR to my clients because it's a perfect match for them and they go and purchase the "new" 2CR...they email me saying, "ummm...are you sure this is my shade?!" It's so wild...big miss for Dior, sadly.

I was shade matched at by an SA at Sephora for the Haus Labs when it first came out. She gave me 2 samples to take home. The finish was gorgeous but the colors were so off that I concluded that it was not for me. A year later I was wandering around another Sephora and looking to try a new foundation when a sales rep asked me if I’d tried Haus Labs. I told her my experience and she said to give it another try and she would help match me. She tried a few cheek swatches and then put 050 all over my face. I immediately said I felt like a ghost. She said to give it a few minutes as it would oxidize and look again. To my surprise, it looked beautiful and the finish just kept getting better. I bought the shade 050 (as I’m a fair with cool undertones) and never looked back. It’s now one of my favorite foundations and I have quite a few. Some people love to try new blushes or lipsticks. I am always on the hunt for the next perfect foundation. One of the reasons it may not be rated a 5 is because it is difficult to match your shade.

  • @dakotahjadee

I have the original and reformulated Dior face and body foundation. Each shade is a little big lighter than the older formulation. I don’t notice too much of a difference in wear. It still looks nice on my skin at the end of the day. I do think the older formulation has a tiny bit more staying power than the newer version and the newer version is a bit more full coverage than its older one.

Just get a white blending mixer to add for your winter shade, instead of buying another. Or buy the white one in huas labs to add and make your winter shade. That way you can buy the summer shade and make it your all year shade with the white mixer.

You used to be able to get it at Sephora but I don’t see it anymore. I wore it for my cousin’s wedding and it was PERFECT! If you have more dry skin and are okay with splurging, it’s a water-based foundation and is really nice. Like I can’t sell it enough. I haven’t found anything like it since and I just can’t spend $96 on an everyday foundation. Currently using the Colour Pop Hyaluronic Acid Tinted Moisturizer and it’s been good for every day, but you bet if I am in another wedding or have some sort of big event to do, I’ll be splurging on that one again.

The only way I can make luminous silk work is if I use a very dewy & moisturizing primer and also mix in a face oil or otherwise it looks super matte and dry on my skin while sinking into every pore on my face. The makeup by Mario has been a new favorite of mine, because of how moisturizing the formula is. My skin looks like an airbrushed filter. I always get compliments and my boyfriend who is an artist that specializes in realistic facial portraits says its the makeup that looks the most skin-like on my face. I set it with a light coat of the givenchy prism libre powder and the milk hydro grip setting spray and it last 10+ hours. The make up by Mario foundation and NARS light reflecting are the only foundations that don’t make me look super dry at the end of the day.

I also dislike the Armani. It doesn’t give great coverage which for me is the point of wearing foundation. I’ve paired it with the danessa myricks tinted balm and it definitely boosted the coverage and wear time so that’s how I’ve been able to really use mine.

Estee Lauder Double Wear is a great foundation especially for older women. I recently tried Christian Dior matte and it looks great as well. I tried the luminous one first but after a few hours I looked oily. So that one may be good for people with dry skin.

A lot of these high end foundations are full of fragrances. The Armani foundation has 3 different fragrances in it. I’m allergic to most natural and synthetic fragrances. If it’s a bargain product, I’ll take a chance on it. But, at $70, I can’t afford to get a rash. Lol

The old days of 17 shade ranges for a foundation. That is when we were all schooled to take the foundation down our neck and blend so you can’t see the demarcation line. It is because it didn’t really match our skin tone!! (By the way, I am so enjoying this video!)

I used the new sample system from Haus Labs for their foundation and frankly, had no problem whatsoever choosing my color. I love that they have done that. The packing is perfect and just the right amount of each color to do a full face, maybe even twice. The finish is stunning. Makes me want to throw out all of the foundations I have. I want to buy more of Haus Lab products and glad I ignored my non-fandom of Lady Gaga. No interest in purchasing Fenty. So far I have been underwhelmed by their products, even the lip gloss.

Armani, Haus Labs and NARS Reflecting are my fav foundations (Pat McGrath is also in my list but not mentioned). I do agree with comments of the last person for Fenty (not the score tho ). I have dry skin and it just didn’t work for me. Because of my dryness I have a great skin care routine but it still turned orange on me as well. My shade is 385 but I had to go up to 370 so when it dries down it looks more like 385. Like the ladies said, I’m not a full coverage person. So although it’s a good foundation (and I see why it is popular) it just wasn’t for me.

I am SO surprised that Nikki doesn't like the Makeup By Mario Surreal Skin - and I'm also so surprised at the 3.5/5 stars.
Every time I go out running errands or out and about, I ALWAYS get compliments on my skin. I do take care of my skin, but this foundation is incredible. With the One Size translucent powder, I get the perfect matte look in areas that I need it (my t-zone) and after a few hours, I have a natural glow that is just beautiful.
As someone with oil/combo skin - it is such a win for me! I would love to know if Nikki has used it on models and if they had the same experience as she did! It is the best foundation for me. I liked the Rare Beauty, but it is so heavy on my skin and it feels like I'm wearing makeup - after a few hours (on me) it feels and looks like a but too much (almost like the foundation is sitting on top of my skin)
Susan, PLEASE try the Surreal Skin!!

Blue is cool, yellow is neutral, red is warm. In the real world at least. I don’t know how pink toned foundation is universally considered ‘cool’

I loved this video ladies. Of all the foundations you mentioned the only one I’ve tried is the Haus Labs and I guess I’m one of the few that didn’t like it. First of all the shade they matched me with at Sephora was totally wrong. Second, it was too luminous for my liking and it accentuated my texture really bad. I’m 45. Don’t have much wrinkles but I do have large pores and dry skin. I went to return it. As for the Armani luminous silk I have not tried it yet. I’ve been many times to Sephora and Nordstrom to buy but sales person always discourages me from getting it. They always recommend something different that they say I would like better so I always leave either with a different foundation or a sample of one I didn’t even had in mind. Every time I hear that foundation in a video I want to run to get it. Hopefully soon. It’s not the price that stops me because I even have the La Prairie in 2 different shades. I love it but not worth the price. As for the Dior one I also want to try it. I hope I like the new formula. Now I will never know how the original was but I agree with you on the alcohol and how it make foundations last longer in the skin. I had a favorite from Chanel that got reformulated and they ruined it since they removed the alcohol.

Great video! Armani is my go to if I don’t want to mess up def deserves to be up higher! I adore the Haus Labs but have found the best way that works on me is with a beauty blender sprayed with my charlotte T setting spray. I swear by that combo! For some reason it does transfer some off of my skin even with primer and set with powder but with the spray and blender it is chef’s kiss! I was color matched with Sephora’s technology and the shade is perfection! It is absolutely stunning! I would repurchase. I so want to try the Dior Backstage. Please do concealer!!

The Dior Backstage was my go to before the formula change. After the formula change it did not have the same staying power and the way it wears and looks on the skin was completely different. I’m one of the people that has Ilia skin tint as my staple and I’ll
explain why: I have dry skin and live in Colorado ( very dry) and for some reason it has such a plumping and even blurring effect on me throughout the day. I layer it over a very lightweight spf like the Madagascar centella or hero green spf. I will say i use it for light coverage if I do try to get more of a medium coverage it does look very weird so a little goes a long way! So throughout the day my skin just soaks it up and it goes from looking dewy to airbrushed at the end of the day ( which to me is incredibe as a move from day to evening). As a comparison a foundation like Armani silk even though it is very beautiful at first it eventually looks very dry and matte on my skin which I don’t like over time so it’s definitely only a summer one for me. Hope that helps!

Ilia is my new favorite.. I'm 56 and had a hysterectomy years ago.. so my skin was oily when I was younger. Then, in my 20 and 30s, I was combo, and now I'm at the very extreme other end.. extreme dry.. so now this is my favorite.. and I use nars, but I like this way better.
