Spynmaster blame Sony and their lackluster hardware at the time when 3D graphics was they're biggest focus and the Saturn's 2D graphics being their biggest strength
+Rayqauzay I like him. Honestly, out of all the X-Men characters, he's had the most development. I won't defend the writers did some pretty scuzzy shit to him, but overall he's my favorite X-Man. Despite all his flaws, he's unarguably the most dedicated to trying to protect Mutants by any means.
paul duncan Not exactly since Cyclops currently has more of a major role in Marvel's current event, Secret Wars 2015 since you know--- Wolverine is dead and all...
This game still has my favorite soundtrack of not only the entire Marvel vs. series, but also from the entire CPS 2 library. The tag team mechanic was axed due to the PlayStation lower specs (granted the Saturn needed a RAM expansion cart in order to run it, thankfully the Action Replay functions as a Region unlocker and provides the extra ram to run games in the Saturn).
Answer: you couldn't tag in on the Playstation version. I mowed lawns just so I could rent that game, only to experience PROFOUND SADNESS! Also, hoping our matches make it into tomorrow's vid, Max. I'm Maximus8931. Really glad this came out because after so much time passed, I figured maybe you wouldn't do the series and thought these matches were lost in the abyss forever. Such a fun time playing Fightcade! Now, onto the stream!
the answer to max's trivia is; the crossover between the two character's special arts moves, for example Cyclops' Mega Optic Blast mixed with Wolverine's Berserker X to preform a bigger hit combo leading to your opponent's with no health or very little health!
This was my GAME growing up!! I LOVED it so!!! Being able to play as Rogue and Gambit were dreams of mine! And Ryu''s theme had the best arrangement in this version!!
I cant believe you won with gambit and juggernaut, then almost clutched the second time. lovem the uncanny character mix ups. Akuma has to be there, he's the party crasher
DJ Revolver I had the Japanese Sega Saturn version and they had tag but the pain in the ass you had to have the cartridge inserted into the port to play imports then quickly take it out put in the extra ram cart and if you were a fraction of a second of it wouldn't work. goddamn that was shit.
+Kabe Silvermaine That's why I had my Saturn modded, so I didn't have to bother with swapping the region free carts to play import games. Eventually they did release the region free carts w/4MB expansion built in also. My 4MB cart stayed in the Saturn basically forever, because games that didn't use it just ignored it anyway.
DJ Revolver yeah, it was psx for sure. my cousin and i only played cyclops and ryu anyway so we didn't mind having to play the same characters. Here's what you had to do: "At the main menu, quickly press Triangle(2), Right, Circle, L1 or Circle(2), Right, Triangle, L1 to enable the EX Option. Use that option to set the game to "Original Mode". Then, choose versus mode and have player one select both of his or her characters. Player two should then select the same two characters in the OPPOSITE order that player one used. Now start a game, and at any time during the match, press HP + HK to switch teammates"
NO TAG!!!! You couldn't pick 2 characters! Only 1!!! And that stupid rendition made it all the easy to marvel vs capcom 1 on playstation! You want the definitive version of xmen vs street fighter gotta get the Japanese version with the 512mb cart :-) I have it
Derpurs Machinest Actually, you can pick 2 characters but only use the point character and the second one only available for alpha counters and team supers; but yeah no raw tags available. In the PsOne versions of MSHvSF and MvC you could change the order of the characters by holding 3 punches before the match starts to play with the 2nd char, dunno about XMvSF. The only cool thing in the PsOne ports was that you could do "self DHCs": Cancel the point character hyper combo into another of his hypers or cancel into a team super if you have bars available.
Jay Starr hilarious hahahaha thiagoeis damn dropping knowledge hard hahaha. very cool Bruce Leeds oh god yes, i still have the game actually. i went ahead and got all the versions from japan in recent years and throughly enjoy the tag being in it
Eh, maybe you're right about the PSX version. I probably just don't know about it. Also, there is no X-Men Vs. Street Fighter 2. I only wish, it would be great to see Cyclops return
Isaac Drinkwalter have you watched the entire video? Cause at the end of the vid max says there we're 2 ports of this game on PSX and Saturn. Hell the first result i got on google was link to emuparadise PSX section with this game xD
Isaac Drinkwalter You must not have your information correct, it was released on consoles. Max even states this at the end of this video during the trivia.
Awesome vid like always :) I remember playing this a lot back in the day, on my ps1. The thing that was missing, and the answer to your question, was the Tag Team mode. You could only swap out your characters in a game mode where you played against the two same characters, as those you were playing as yourself. A shame they had to remove it, though at the time, I didn't know what I was missing, so I liked it a lot anyway! :) (Update: It's in Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter on PS1 that you have to fight the same two characters that you play as yourself, if you want to use the tag team feature!)
One of the things that always interested me about Ken in X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes was Capcom's decision to give him the aerial Hadouken (official name is Zanku Hadouken) which has always been associated with Akuma. Also interesting is that Ken's Zanku Hadoken sprite in X-Men vs Street Fighter is the same as Super Street Fighter II Turbo Akuma.
children of the atom is the game that started it all for me.... but i damn near shit my pants as a child when I discovered this one... i recall playing a dude that knew how to unlock akuma and finished me with a raging demon... I never saw that move performed and got punished for my ignorance.... it was a nail biter too lol! anyway, thanks for the nostalgia @Maximilian Dood
Trivia: that would be the chatacter switch mechanic, you can still pick a second character to use their assist moves, but you could not switch to and play as the second character during the fight. I was like 5 when I played x-men vs street fighter and I knew you could switch to other characters in the arcade version, but I never realised they did not have that in the playstation version. Over a decade later, and I still remember trying to figure out how to switch the characters mid-fight, ignorant of the fact my efforts were futile. :)
Poor Playstation ... couldn't even tag out. Well, you could, but only if you picked the same team as your opponent. Also, I can't wait for the MSH vs SF video!!! That's my favorite of all the Marvel VS games, to this day! Akuma's Tatsu into Tenma!!! Love that combo, plus Cyber Akuma and just a ton of secret characters.
This game brings back memories. I always enjoyed playing it in the arcade in the one bowling place I used to go to. Wolverine and Akuma were my go to crew. Good times. Sadly, I do not know which Mechanic was missing in the Euro version.
The most fun I had in this game was playing Ken versus an AI Juggernaut. He was just so big that you could combo and juggle him with everything. Also, what the hell kind of game show is "Moon Light Bomber"?
This was the shiznit back in 1996. Love love LOVE Bengus' artwork in and out of the game, and the meeting of two hot properties in a crossover? A real teenage dream!
The game play mechanic that it was missing on PS1 was the availability to allow tag team game play. You were allowed to pick two characters but you had to play with the 1st character until they were killed/knocked off until you could used your second character. Also technology you could use a U.S. Sega Saturn to play this game but you'd get a Japanese copy of the game and had to have a RAM card that allowed the US Sega Saturns to use and play Japanese games titles. And I believe all of the writing in the game was in Japanese.
A lot of people may not know this, but the ps1 version did have tag team. But you had to put in a code to get it. Once you did, it went like this. ...For example, player 1 would pick Ryu and Ken. And then player 2 would pick Ken and Ryu. It's a mirror match, and can only be done on the Vs mode.
Chia Xiong It was because it was on PS1. The PS1 version was so flawed where you couldn't do tag team switch out. You had to wait until your first character's health was depleted and the 2nd would come in after. I think because Marvel is phasing out Xmen in their universe and because of licensing issues with Disney it would be a conflict of interests to re release titles involving Xmen as the forefront cast!
The missing mechanic was "Cross Fighting" (or also labeled dynamic/dramatic battle I believe). It would later be missing in the 1st batch of "Marvel vs Capcom" for the Playstation as well.
What was missing from the PS version? The goddamn tag aspect. They turned the tag aspect into the one-on-one 3-round bit, even though you STILL had tag supers.
One of my two faves from the whole versus series. The other being marvel super heroes vs street fighter. please tell me you will be playing that next!?
Man... I had great times with this game. I remember heading up to the laundry mat with a pocketful of quarters to play this with my cousin. We used to stayed there for about an hour or so just having a blast. I still find it so amazing that you can pick whichever character you liked and go at it while having fun. I look at UMvC3 and shake my head at such sadness. Don't get me wrong.. I like UMvC3 but if I had to pick, I'll pick this XMvsSF over UMvC3. Well.. really MSHvsSF over all of them :-D My favorite one.
the tag feature was removed but there was still a way to get the tag feature and it had something to do with a mirror match. there was a code that allowed you to change to a EX mode and during VS. if player 1 and player 2 picked the same characters you could use the tag feature
Am I missing something here at like 15:29???? On why u didn't just zone him out and chip him out with royal flush? U died with 3 meters not once attempting a hyper ???? I'm confused??
Gameplay problem in the PSX Version of X-Men vs SF: The ability to swap characters ( TAG ) not available. Due to memory restrictions if i remember well.
I know, but considering their expertise (and how they prove it in all their works), I used it as an example to prove the fact it should have been easy for them.
Trivia answer is the PS version could not load 4 seperate sprite sets so the only way to have actual 2v2 matches was for both sides to choose the same characters. Otherwise it was a 1 on 1 affair.
The best thing we had, what sets it apart from other fighting games. The Tag system.....I do not quite understand why it was done with all the limitation of requiring that its second tag character was the first character the opponent chose to fight and vice versa.
How did he get this to happen. I used to go with my grandma to the Super 1 foods and they had a cabinet of this where i would play it as a kid and try and figure out fighting games while she grocery shopped. Used to be the best times.
birdie always did that stuff at the end of matchs thats what would make me pick some teams in mvc2 so you can see the epic poses at the end best one ever was blackheart juggs and Colossus
Damn son, loving these marvel (and crossover) games. Also, it can't just be me that thinks the announcer in this game sounds almost identical to SF4's at times.
this brought back all kinds of memories of q-zar, squatting on this this for hours, beating guys ten years older than me. awwww man, thanks for this one...I wish we had RUclips then!
God the music for this game was so fucking good. Man, I miss old Capcom fighters. They really aren't what they use to be.
This is my favorite cross over fighting game ever.
I agree, the 2nd best was Marvel vs Capcom...it had Megaman, Strider....and Venom!!!
Me too
Cyclops.
Using the triple Shoryuken before Seth.
yup
insanemindset Cyclops was nearly as Shoto as Ken and Ryu. All he needed was some sort of spinning kick.
+TheRogueWolf he had one. Can't remember the name but it ended with a sweep.
+christinhell cyclone kick
TheRogueWolf he did have one
Man, I used to spend a whole lot of quarters with this game... good times!
the best fighting game at that time period
22:36 - Due to memory limitations, the PS port did not feature the series' signature tag-team character swap
Pissed me da fuq off! I felt so jaded! How could Capcom testers let that pass?!
Spynmaster blame Sony and their lackluster hardware at the time when 3D graphics was they're biggest focus and the Saturn's 2D graphics being their biggest strength
MrDmoney156 the Saturn was primarily 2D with secondary 3D capabilities. The PlayStation was primarily 3D with secondary 2D
First game to succeed at it was MvC2 Dreamcast
This honestly looks more fun than mvci and most of the new games coming out these days
This game has the best soundtrack of all time!!! =D More gameplay please!!
Oh my god I love this, I used to play this game religiously when I was younger. Such good memories.
I like this Ryu and the SF alpha one, looks younger and cooler than SF 4 and 5
(Ryu+Ken) (Storm+Wolverine) ( Rogue+Gambit ) (Cammy+Chunli) were my teams back in the arcade days!
Ah, games where Raging Demon cost one meter. Those were the days.
Didn't want this one to end! This game deserves a series! Thanks again DOOD!
I'm really enjoying this series so far! 👍🏽 great job Max
Y'know, I'm kinda sad that Cyclops keeps getting kicked to the curb for Wolverine these days.
paul duncan Well he is a scumbag character no one likes
+Rayqauzay I like him. Honestly, out of all the X-Men characters, he's had the most development. I won't defend the writers did some pretty scuzzy shit to him, but overall he's my favorite X-Man. Despite all his flaws, he's unarguably the most dedicated to trying to protect Mutants by any means.
paul duncan Not exactly since Cyclops currently has more of a major role in Marvel's current event, Secret Wars 2015 since you know--- Wolverine is dead and all...

The tag team mechanic was axed due to the PlayStation lower specs (granted the Saturn needed a RAM expansion cart in order to run it, thankfully the Action Replay functions as a Region unlocker and provides the extra ram to run games in the Saturn).
I always thought it was funny when you KO someone from mid screen, they would bounce all the way off screen! lol
Watching Max play this with other people is so hype! Makes me wish we could get major tournaments that're just 90's hyper fighters.
its still amazing to see people still playing these old video games
Dood’s Matches with Paranoia dude we’re just legendary
i want x men vs street fighter 2
Gustavo Rivera I'd play it every day.
its called marvel vs. capcom
@@Cringycoot now thats not x men vs street fighter 2 is it?
Wolverine was the first one to say "LETS GO!" when something hype was about to happen, now I see where Max got it from
Max, are you playing fightcade with a keyboard or did you get it to work with a joystick controller?
If only Capcom would be given the Marvel video games license again...
pious83 👌❤️👌
*were given.
I love Max. Every arcade video always makes me want to fighting games with my family. Thank Saapo for Max!
This game is where my love for fighting games began. Almost 20 years ago now.
How do you put the xmen picture in im assuming behind the gameplay footage so no one sees black bars?
This was my very 1st game every on the playstation...thanks for the memories Max and keep up the great work.
akuma's face at 17:43..... on the portrait art... ugh...
What's wrong?
😂😂
+Cooltrainer Ian Gotta love how Ken, Cyclops and Wolverine are Screaming on the VS screen
*****
Not even once!
+Cooltrainer Ian Better than the one Shin Akuma has with the SNK art style in CvS2.

Jay Starr hilarious hahahaha
thiagoeis damn dropping knowledge hard hahaha. very cool
Bruce Leeds oh god yes, i still have the game actually. i went ahead and got all the versions from japan in recent years and throughly enjoy the tag being in it
One thing I loved about this game was the tag team super moves. I never was able to figure out how to do it in this one or the sequal to this game.
It's such a bummer that Rogue wasn't in Marvel 3
Joel Cameron I know this comment is old, I just wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment
I LOVED this one on the psx! So much fun
You must mean Marvel Vs. Capcom. This game was unfortunately never on any consoles.
Are you serious? I remember the level that changed in an exploded central, which is here. Maybe it was street fighter vs x-men 2 or something?
Eh, maybe you're right about the PSX version. I probably just don't know about it. Also, there is no X-Men Vs. Street Fighter 2. I only wish, it would be great to see Cyclops return

pc
Ken for Marvel vs Capcom:Infinite 👍👍👍
lilroc1 Best comment.
Hey max bro what game console are you playing this on for online matches
One of the things that always interested me about Ken in X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes was Capcom's decision to give him the aerial Hadouken (official name is Zanku Hadouken) which has always been associated with Akuma. Ken's theme in this game is sooooooo good. This version of it is my favorite Ken theme for sure.
Max is so sick at this! Play more X-men Vs. Street Fighter
Found this game in an arcade here in Florida and went on an epic win streak! This game is so awesome!
children of the atom is the game that started it all for me.... but i damn near shit my pants as a child when I discovered this one... i recall playing a dude that knew how to unlock akuma and finished me with a raging demon... 7:33 Wolverine vs. Sabretooth. "Story battle."
7:58 Cyclops vs. Wolverine. "CANON BATTLE!"
1:43 background music, whats the name because i stay hearing different variations of it.
Cal Schmidt pretty sure it's Ryus theme
kens them
Sooooooo
No it's Ken's theme
I loved this game! I was the first in my local
Pizza place to do the hidden akuma select. Lol
I used to blow my friends' minds when they saw me pick Armor Spidey or Dark Sakura in Marvel vs Street Fighter
Trivia: that would be the chatacter switch mechanic, you can still pick a second character to use their assist moves, but you could not switch to and play as the second character during the fight.

*CHUN-LI!*
*ROGUE!*
Come at me world......
Ryu
Nash
Challenge Accepted!
That scoop at 19:14 was golden.
Nice. This game needs more love than it gets in the original trilogy (if not for how crazy it is, for how iconic it is).
Cyclops can shoot laser beams??? What the fuck?!?!? I thought his mutant power was cheating on Jean Gray
Jillwiches Damn
God Damn!
Ah right, Cyclops classic phase from the comics put into his win quote: "YES!"
them vibrating when doing the super jump lol always loved that
This was the shiznit back in 1996.

Dumped sooo many quarters into this game as a kid! Good to see some solid gameplay.
LMAO at that air combo counter where Cyclops got out of the combo and grabbed Ken for the KO
Sad this game never came out for PS3 or PS4
Chia Xiong It was because it was on PS1. The PS1 version was so flawed where you couldn't do tag team switch out. such a throwback thank you for this Maximilian!
Wait wait...Ryu Ken, Nash, Cammy, Chun and Bison are all in SFV....Sim and Geif confirmed for SFV!Max I'm onto your tricks!
The missing mechanic was "Cross Fighting" (or also labeled dynamic/dramatic battle I believe). It would later be missing in the 1st batch of "Marvel vs Capcom" for the Playstation as well.
This game gave me so many blisters ... I loved this game
What was missing from the PS version?
The goddamn tag aspect. They turned the tag aspect into the one-on-one 3-round bit, even though you STILL had tag supers.
First match against Ryu and Nash/Charlie, Max's favorites in SFV, Illuminati confirmed.
The tag mechanic.
BTW... It is so refreshing not seeing long ass combos that do one hit kill.
One of my two faves from the whole versus series.
The other being marvel super heroes vs street fighter.
please tell me you will be playing that next!?
This was really exciting! I like watching this game 100x more than MKX
Man... I had great times with this game. I remember heading up to the laundry mat with a pocketful of quarters to play this with my cousin. We used to stayed there for about an hour or so just having a blast.

this game play is off the hook my G
Cyber Akuma was so much harder to beat with just one character as well. It was insane.
Gameplay problem in the PSX Version of X-Men vs SF: The ability to swap characters ( TAG ) not available.
Due to memory restrictions if i remember well.
zanychelly That, and the PS1 just isn't all that great with 2D fighting games in general. Guilty Gear is an exception.
NEON 7 Arc systems mate: They managed to make 3d models look completely 2d, so that was probably child's play for them ^^
TheNekoGentleman I think they did that for Xrd, not Guilty Gear.
I know, but considering their expertise (and how they prove it in all their works), I used it as an example to prove the fact it should have been easy for them.
OMG!!! Play more of this game Max!! I miss it!!!
sometimes i want a week of! xmen vs street fighter
It was missing the tag team mechanic. as was MSHvsSF and MvC on playstation.
Trivia answer is the PS version could not load 4 seperate sprite sets so the only way to have actual 2v2 matches was for both sides to choose the same characters. Otherwise it was a 1 on 1 affair.
"Akuma you jackass!"
I lost it!
The best thing we had, what sets it apart from other fighting games. The Tag system.....I do not quite understand why it was done with all the limitation of requiring that its second tag character was the first character the opponent chose to fight and vice versa.
15:57 I think it's "Kinetic Card"
How did he get this to happen. I used to go with my grandma to the Super 1 foods and they had a cabinet of this where i would play it as a kid and try and figure out fighting games while she grocery shopped. Used to be the best times.

his invincibility ran out. stupid gambit thank you fox......had me dying laughing
when I heard 'Akuma you jackass' - I died LOL
Quite possibly my favourite of the old vs games
this brought back all kinds of memories of q-zar, squatting on this this for hours, beating guys ten years older than me. awwww man, thanks for this one...I wish we had RUclips then!
God damn this game's soundtrack is amazing. I can barely even pay attention to the matches...
Were you usin the FightCade program? there are a lot of arcade games :3
