Always always always start with a drainage plan. When the grading and exterior is complete, then you go inside with the sealing and painting. You're chasing your tail if you don't.

If you are waterproofing inside your house your are to late and doing it wrong. You will have problems down the road.
You need to stop water from entering your wall not trapping it in there.

Yeah I'm surprised he didn't excavate around the exterior and waterproof the outside of the block and add in a weeper.
I've been watching Gate City Foundation Drainage on RUclips for a while. He recommends PVC pipe and not that black corrugated pipe that gets clogged over time.
As I said in the video, I have plans to address the exterior but needed to get this interior work done first as I had a tight timeline to get the framing work done.

To be fair, I don't think you can put drylock thru a sprayer. Leastwise when I used it decades ago. Maybe its improved since then.

I get where Branden is coming from. The minute we find an easier or more efficient way to do something, we claim; "I'll never do xxxxx again"! But sooner or later we discover there's some reason why we have to go back on our claim!

Always start with the exterior. Roof, regrade and French drains.

I would also recommend burying some PVC pipe instead of the flexible drain tile. The water exits was faster and can leak along the way and gets it clear of the build too.

Wow, this thumbnail popped up in my suggestions and I thought, that looks like the shop behind the carwash and bakery. I clicked on it and it was! Good to know a local is doing well on YT.
Hah, small world! I found the shop was for sale while getting cinnamon rolls across the street!
I love that you put 24" of masking on the floor when painting the wall and then you peel up the masking and it was obvious where it was on the floor haha. I love these sprayers but they require SO MUCH prep compared to paint rollers to not get paint everywhere.
I'd also put a membrane on the outside wall once you pull the dirt out of it cause from the video its not clear if you are planning to waterproof outside of the wall. Right now all you did is trapped incoming moisture like the previous owner did.

If you’re getting that much water coming through your block that drylok isn’t going to do you any good. You should be addressing it from the outside. Dig a trench down to the footers. At the least put some bituthene on the walls where they will be below grade but your best bet is going to be a French drain and like you said the grading will make a huge difference. But keeping water out always starts from the outside first

actually, even though your sprayed the walls with the paint. You are kindof suppose to finish up with a roller after it to Smooth the paint out so there is no bumps and splatters and uneven sections.
Yea on the concrete block it definitely wasn't a problem since the surface is so uneven already.

I am so happy to hear you say that the water proofing paint wasn't going to be the only "water proofing" you were working on, because I was like, if you have loads of water coming from outside, that water proofing paint ain't gonna do shit :D some propper drainage outside will help immensely, if getting the water away from the building is a problem because of the layout of the ground around the shop, some kind of french drain should also be able to take care of a lot of the water :)
but cant wait too see how the shop is gonna turn out :)

Hmm, I stop at that purple and green bakery for my morning scone most mornings!
When I had my house painted they used the same type of paint sprayer. After spraying they went right back over the paint with a paint roller. I asked why and they said its the only way to ensure total even coverage. Though all they did was go over the paint 1 roll and it went super fast.

Superb Workshop, spacious you will spend hours and hours there with pleasure even while working there, when I look at the renovation you have a lot of work, it reminds me of when I was able to acquire my Workshop, a former motor winding factory all power inside has been protected by alarms, but outside wild tagging, I have an area of 2000 M² on the ground floor, including, F & H Changing rooms, WC, Showers, Self "dining area" and Economat, on the first floor; employed offices; WC F&H, dining area and on the second floor my apartments, I am in patronaria with a school the "CEFA" they provide the tools to the students, I the locals, everyone wins.
Nowadays it's not easy to be independent, well, whoever wants it never stops.

It's great, good work... next time you have to disassemble the spread just use industrial acetone, it melts and leaves no residue...

I have sprayed Drylok with a drywall texture gun. Works phenomenally. Sometimes I go back and work it in with a brush but usually the air gun pushes the paint into the block just as well as a brush if not better.

Looks like a huge project! But renovating an existing building is easier and more economical than building a new building. Looks to be an exciting and information packed series ahead. Thanks for sharing.
I also love the Lutron remotes. My house has a bunch of oddly placed switches that mean you have to cross a dark room to turn on the lights. Problem solved!
My alternative solution: Simply use plastic or metal rods to push the old isolation further back. After doing that: Use closed cell foam to spray over the old pinned in place isolation. ... Use less closed cell foam ... Profit !

Just out of curiosity can you make a video on the business aspect.
What did you need to accomplish in order to obtain your building.
What are the steps scouting, real estate, insurance, loop holes, tax loop holes.
What are some obstacles you ran into and what to look out for during this process that you wish you would have done.
Hot much it cost, building materials, where and how you got all material. I only ask cause I’m a car Audio shop but I’m looking to get a similar shop as well.
I kind of got lucky with this building and happened to see a "For Sale By Owner" sign in the window while I was getting cinnamon rolls at a bakery across the street. 😂 There weren't really any loop holes to speak of, I did buy the properly under a separate LLC, which my accountant recommended.
I got fairly standard commercial insurance, although I had a little trouble finding someone to insure the property without a fire suppression system. The building cost $372k and any of the building materials I haven't salvaged from the property were just purchased from my local Lowe's. Hope that helps!

There are some products you can apply to the outside wall to waterproof it, if you ever need. But I think it's going to be perfectly fine with the modifications you mentioned. 😊

Yep, heard him barely address it after I hit send. However, I stand by my comment about addressing the water from the outside. this should always be done first. Doing it from the inside just traps the water in the block and is more difficult to deal with later. Just saying.

Radiant heat under the shag carpet in the bathroom is incredible
Underground coal mining we had trouble with mould on the long wall we used fertilizer spay bottles with vinegar did the trick killed mould.

I had the same issue when I bought a house with a three car detached workshop two years ago. Digging a shallow drainage swale 3 feet away from the slab which was sloped towards some nearby drainage and laying a shallow bed of gravel in it completely transformed the building. My tools used to rust inside and the slab would sweat moisture for the entire summer… Now everything in there is completely bone dry.
Glad to hear it, as I think that's my plan pretty much exactly. Digging out the entire face of the wall to waterproof it seems like a MAJOR undertaking, so I'm hoping a swale might be a good start and we'll see how well it works.
@@craftedworkshop the gutters on my shop had been clogged for a decade and the ground was graded toward the slab on 3 sides. To add more detail, I sloped the ground away from the slab and dug a 12” or so deep trench 30-36” from the wall.
The downspouts now run into NON perforated corrugated plastic drain tile which is in the bottom of the swale, then run to a creek bed where they empty. Backfilled & sloped these ditches into a shallow swale, and lined with gravel to somewhat prevent erosion.
Both runoff and actual gutter water are taken away by separate means and the total solution keeps the shop as dry as my house (which is atop the hill.) Works great without the expense of a french drain or weeping tile, because I had enough slope to work with.

Should always start with fixing the drainage and roofing issues to control your ground water. You did the secondary and cosmetic interior work first so good luck with that.

Dig a ditch around the building, drainage tile and gravel with geo cloth next. Divert the water away to storm sewer of French drain. Fix downspouts and other runoff (Driveway).
If possible dig down and waterproof the foundation footer and low wall. Until this sort of work is done, Inside wall work is wasted.

We have an electric pallet jack where I work. The only difference is you can ride on it. And it's pretty damn fast, too.

Kryton crystal water activated water membrane. Use it with hydro static pressure.

Lookin great . Id suggest a Dehumidifier for the shope for moisture since the shop has had water issues ( just a suggestion
if the outside drainage is addressed, would there be a need to add waterproofing inside and trap water in the walls?
That area is a disaster during hard rain. I had to drive through that street that one time we had the big rain last year. I saw a garden shed that got washed off in the middle of the street. Hopefully you get the whole thing waterproofed! It looks like an awesome shop space. Dont hesitate to reach ouf you need some extra hands. I live 1.5 miles away.
My house basically runs on Picos... Agreed, absolute game-changer.
They are the bomb. So much more stable than most other smart home products in my experience.
@@craftedworkshop - Push button, light changes. No f__king around with apps and dropped pairings. Have you seen the tabletop pedestals? Have one on my computer desk for the office, a dual in the theatre room for ambient and overhead lights, ditto in the bedroom mounted right to the bed.
Even have a remote with their visor-clip in the car, memory button turns on entry (high), main room (mid) and kitchen (low)... one button from the car. Awesome and massively under-appreciated system.

Question! So you're hanging lighting, are you planning to any sort of insulation on the metal roof? Obviously the fiber glass was a disaster (and not safe, as it needs to be covered). I was curious if there's a "one step" board foam you can leave exposed, or an affordable spray in? I imagine in the summer it would get pretty warm in there with the metal roof.
