  • Nothing special other than 1 hour of WHY DISGAEA 6 is bad. So comparing the two and having a blast from the past... I'm so glad NIS changed for the better.

I guess I'm somewhere in the middle compared to you.
On one hand, I don't think "Disgaea 6" is as bad as you do. Granted, I still think it's probably the most disappointing and lacking entry in the series with borderline nonsensical design decisions. But there still were additions I thought were neat or something I actually really appreciated. It was just the overall package that let it all down since it was so reliant on, well, not actually being played and being exactly the grinding, huge numbers meme everyone makes fun of the series for being.
But on the other, I also don't think "Disgaea 7" is that much better. Better than "6" no doubt but that isn't exactly a high bar to clear to begin with. It still felt lacking in a number of ways. While some of the new ideas were neat, they felt pretty underutilized...or at least I barely felt like I ever needed to use them. Not to mention some features that were strangely walked back on that were good in "6". Like, I think I got the platinum (requiring to do just about everything other than beating Carnage Baal or any of the 20* challenges) in just short of 43 hours. That's absurdly short for this series. But I guess that just goes to show how unbalanced so many of the mechanics are in your favor. My entire strategy was raising a single unit (Fugi) and had everyone else act as buffing support through Braveheart plus Evilities which worked for every single stage.
Honestly, these both are troubled entries to me and I'm worried about the future of the series in general. There's still so many areas that need improvement or, unfortunately, stuff that needs to be returned or un-dumbed down.

To each their own, its all good.
I did 1 unit (Fuji too) but I did to struggle some stages, and I had to adjust for a lot of them.
The Jumbo/Item-Reincarnate/New hospital are definitely things Disgaea needed. Surprised you see them under-utilized.

      I guess a clarification.
The hospital was definitely used. I considered it more of a retooling of an existing mechanic than a brand new one.
It's so overtuned that it breaks any semblance of balance even by itself. By chapter 4 or 5, barely 10 hours in casually, I was already rocking end of the line equipment with Legendary Exodus's to spare. By Post Game in Carnage, you can easily get the 10 mil extracts for stats in like an hour or two with it. The Carnage equipment you get through it literally funds back the money you spend healing for RP and then some.
Item-Reincarnation I don't think I ever genuinely used. Didn't see the point when equipment kind of stopped mattering so quickly. Maybe if I dived more into the higher * Carnage stages, maybe it'd become necessary but I ended up never needing to use it outside of being required for two trophies at the very end of my playtime. My Fugi had roughly 23 million stats with basic equipment from the Hospital, and then hitting the 99 mil cap through buffs, which was all I needed to steamroll all the Carnage stages.
Jumbo I rarely used, mostly only in the few item world runs I did early on for the free heal before proceeding to the next floor. It was only ever a factor in boss battles, since in regular battles, enemies didn't seem to use it unless you used it first.
Overall, I don't mean to say it's a bad game or entry, it just wasn't the one I was hoping it'd be. Very much a me issue. I played it, had my fill, and now I'm fine moving on.
