- The 70 current and former NYCHA employees who were arrested Tuesday on bribery and extortion charges are due back in court next month. Still, there is the question of what will happen to the 300,000 residents who continue to call NYCHA home, especially those living in disrepair. NYCHA Tenant President for the Douglass Houses on the Upper West Side, Carmen Quinones, and New York City Councilman Chris Banks join PIX11 to discuss the fallout from the arrests.
This is a sad story to report and know that this number of people ( senior citizens, low-income, families, children,) will be without housing or having to live in these conditions...😢😢 I hope every staff member for NYCHA that caused this storm pay the price.😢😢😢
Its no accident that NYCHA was forced to sell management of many of their properties. I can imagine the developers are connected to this underhanded behavior.

She keep saying listen to the residents. I was a Nycha worker and still a resident. Accountability needs to be taken both ways. You have some nasty residents who make it hard on the workers, and Nycha does nothing about these residents. As a resident, I make complaints against my problematic neighbors, and still nothing gets done.
Like loud music coming from Marlboro Apartment in to the streets @ 30 Avenue V, Building, Brooklyn NY 11223. Over 40 calls made to 311 with reference numbers and management office complained to and nothing done to stop these disrespectful tenants. They need to be evicted and the office manager & employees need to be replaced with people who will stop this because no one can sleep through the night or watch & listen to their TV in peace & quiet!

This is not the reason why apartments and disregard to the tenants needs. They made side money in small amounts which is illegal but is not the real reason why nycha tenants been neglected.

Caring for the elderly is one thing... but what is up with the working public having to provide for the necessities of GROWN PEOPLE their entire adult lives, for GENERATIONS !!!!!... a time limit needs to be placed on folks in these programs... getting housing, food and clothing support from the states/federal agencies, while buying cars and going on expensive vacations ISN'T RIGHT

I have always thought public paid for housing off the taxpayers is supposed to be temporary, until people find other accommodation's after getting on their feet. The truth is to really repair old used, abused, damaged places like that, the building would have to be emptied, something most residents I am sure don't want.

It was recommended years ago that there was oversight regarding these contracts so the top of NYCHA knew and politicians knew. Its like a person that sets their house on fire for the insurance money Now the residents have to deal with these private companies and the crazy amount of rent with the falling ceilings...

NYCHA have more lazy staff these days. You go there and ask help and is pushed around, making your voucher expire. I'm so damn tired of fighting after working hard. And nothing is easy to receive.

That's the City's fault. Their form of downsizing government, meant not continuing to employ a staff to make needed repairs. Instead they choose to contract out the repairs to private companies. Money was wasted and many of NYCHA units are in disrepair.
